- An outline of how the music of the original God of War trilogy tells the story of Kratos’ struggle for revenge and redemption.
IMPORTANT: The featured sheet music is not necessarily identical (in key, form or time signature) to the music heard. It exists to give a visual cue for the themes, not to be taken literally for every iteration of the theme.

God of war 2 didn't just have the best themes, it also knew how to place them wonderfully
FINALLY someone dives deep on the original music
As a Greek myself my favourite thing when playing god of war was listening to the music in the background, I did understand some lyrics but it just shows how much love they put into these game and they didn't just make the songs in English or with no vocals at all
Plus for me the music made the game more enjoyable and Kratos more badass AND you understood him more as a character
Also last thing I want to add is that I am glad finally someone talked about the music and that this video and channel are just underrated and you deserve more recognition, keep up the amazing work

0:45 actually Kratos is apparently based on the Greek personification of strength itself who’s called Cratos in their mythology. He’s the brother of Nike, the goddess of victory.
Loved the age of mythology music at the beggining, brings back memories
Rage of Sparta from GOW3 is the best of the old games, but the new GOW theme is pure testosterone

I've seen this translation, and as much as I want it to be correct, I don't think it is. The 4th syllable doesn't sound like "ton".
@@monoverantus I am a Greek and I always heard this part as : Το τέλος είναι πια εδώ (To telos ine pia edo) (The end is here) but I am really not sure at all man because the choir has a retarded english accent. In the case that it says (To Telos ton kosmos) maybe its actually (To telos **tou Kosmou) because the previous one doesnt make sense grammatically neither in ancient or modern Greek.

Nope, I've not found any version of it online. Had to use the actual game audio.
I didn't understand anything in the video but I enjoyed anyway the music and the translation.
Im Greek myself but damn Im struggling to understand Poseidons wrath theme lyrics, wish we could know somehow
I was really keen on knowing this, but even Kostas Christides, the guy who made the original translations for most of the themes, couldn't tell what they were singing XD

@@wiseguygr Neither the composers nor music managers had a say in the production of the albums, so one could say that they weren't made by the people who knew most about the music. I'll delve deeper into this in my follow-up video.

@@youtubruh It has nothing to do with blood, but with location. Ouranic (heavenly) cults worshipped the Olympians living on Mount Olympus, while cthonic (underground) cults worshipped the gods of the Underworld.

no that's not right. cory barlog was joking i think. he probably knew he didn't understand greek so to his ears, it sounded like "kratos, son of zeus". no where in the game did music have english lyrics. or he and david didn't know greek and assumed the english lyrics.

he got the information here. cory is joking or wrong or misremembered. i think they didn't know the greek lyrics and "thanatos" sounded like "son of zeus" and they just rolled with it.
all the lyrics are in greek and probably is thanatos, not son of zeus.
Its just sad what an massive downgrade the McCreary soundtrack is.
It was obvious enough in 2018 but in GoWR its even worse cause most tracks are just recycled from 2018.
greek osts are really underrated. the lyrics providing an extra layer to it also is something i wish more people knew about it.
