i'm using joysticks and pedals (vkbs, see description). It's just a matter of experience and muscle memory! you will learn, i'm sure.

why omnis over m5as?
I have tested both, but mostly with the arrow. I did not like the mxa firerate and short „cooldown“ between shots that much. I didn’t feel that comfortable with it. However I liked them more in a medium fighter. Just my feeling currently, more testing required :)
I feel as if the STY really needs stronger strafing. It's too large of a front cross-section ship compared to just about anything aside from the Kar Tu Al. The Yeng Tu is one of the fastest firing guns in the game so it has that going for it. It's either they give it thicker shields or improve it's directional acceleration. I don't think CIG hates alien ships at all. The Defender has a lot going for it, for example.
Yes, I agree. The STY needs more agility, more strafe. Let’s wait and see for the balancing tunings, it’s anyway far from finished. I was hoping for more adjustments, but I guess there wasn’t enough time.
This is great bud. looking forward to more vids from you. I'm still trying to get dogfighting down. After a few months, I'm starting to get a feel for this and dont feel as newbish. I'm wondering if you would know why my look ahead feature continues to follow my targets in game especially when i'm rolling to pitch into my targets strafe. I have look ahead turned off and scaled all the way to minimum on all the sliders but i'm still getting this and its been the difference between getting a kill and dying. Any suggestion appreciated. I've tried googling it and aside from people suggesting to turn off pilot look ahead settings, I've not been able to find the answer.

That hornet fight was really good, excellent movement, unfortunately I think he would have gotten you, in the small amount of time you gave him on target, with m-series cannons. The alpha is too big and the evasion for the gladius or arrow just isn't there ;(

why do your weapons groups on the gladius keep changing?
if you navigate to the Weapons MFD and dont choose another MFD it gets triggered ... i guess through button 1 or something.
They gave lasers sheild pen in ptu for testing it wont do that when it gose live.
This only applies to the engineering mode as far as I know.
Light fighters are dead. the only thing you need to do in medium fighter is just a backstrafe and face the enemy.

Unfortunately it does not. It’s too less agile. But yeah, balance und tunings are anyway work in progress… I hope there will be some further changes soon, especially with the Sabre and San Tok Yai!
@@cataangle Yeah, the Sabre didn't feel great at all, was hoping it would. Mediums need an extra size 1 shield (maybe not Hornets, I fly the MkII mainly and I feel like it's in a good spot). Sabre looks so nice.

So in general i agree to yogi's post on Spectrum, if you didnt read it, check it out. 1on1s are lacking, fighters feel to less evasive, and its more of a aim duel. Yes i try to wiggle to get evasive. What i like the most about MM is the group play - its really in a way better form than in PU. I think MM is a create base for everything which will come now, but it also needs a lot of work. For example the 1on1s, the movement, the ship roles and tunings. The good thing is, that Yogi/CIG agrees with that. So i guess we are on a good way! What do you like about the group play in MM?
You actually can setup a mixed team with different ships and loadouts which are viable. Everyone has his "role". For example, a light fighter with scatterguns, a Interceptor which is appying damage in a hit and run style, medium fighters (tbh only the F7 Mk2, because its very good) which are kind of maximum dps with decent tank, heavy fighters like the F8. We tested a lot of stuff and you can just assign roles to ships/ship types, while in PU we just the current meta ship. I currently don't know what the best setup will be, but the current state in 3.23 EPTU is that there are a bunch of viable ships and weapons you can choose from.

Nah, I prefer fights lasting longer. The effort it took to killing targets before this was ridiculous. TTK (time to kill) is one of the big initiatives with MM and beyond. Armor, weapons resistances, module death are all being implemented to help that... A lot of people got tired of near insta-pop combat. I for one, prefer putting effort into taking my target down.
I think currently the TTK in Light fighters feels alright. Maybe a little bit too fast, it depends on the weapons (which feels very unbalanced). But overall I am happy with it, as you said, many things are still missing, such as armor, so we will see how it looks like in a few months. However I also think the current model is way to fast.
@@cataangle Indeed. Also with the addition of maelstrom, "killing" a target will have a different meaning altogether. Bits a pieces falling off and eventually something you NEED falls off and changes the dynamic of the engagement. It sort of works like that now but in a more generalized level.

To be honest MM still looks so lame and slow. The way your ship and the Hornet are just kind of awkwardly yo-yoing in and out in a tight circle in a constant state of almost face-planting into eachother, it really does not look like good geometry or even aesthetically cool.
I would agree! The movement does not feel very good, at it's very aim centric, but the basis is way better than the current flight model. I can only point towards Yogi's Post from yesterday, he give a pretty nice overview about the current state of mastermodes, especially what he dont likes and must be improved: robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/request-for-yogi-can-you-make-a-video-to-show-us-w/6818844 I would agree to this 100%. However, what feels currently way better then the live model: Group fights and the general flying.

Yes, that's right. But i'm not entirely sure yet. If i'm in a Arrow, i'm trying to stay further away from my target and the omniskys hit better when further away than the FL (i think because of less spread). I guess this also applies to the Lightstrike. Thats why i like to use the Omnisky in the Arrow. However, in other ships i als tend to use the FL/Lightstrike, for example in a Gladius. I also tested the M X A Series yesterday, they are also interesting, but slower.
@@cataangle Yeah, I've settled on 2 Lightstrike IVs on my Hornet wings with 4 sword cannons on the rest. I'll have to try the Omniskys out though, they look like they hit harder and feel more like cannons, the FLs and Lightstrikes feel like slow repeaters. and 1400m/s for the Omnis isn't bad at all
Yes, i agree. The FLs/Lightstrikes are kind of a mix between repeater and cannons, while the Omnisky are the real "cannons". Let me know how you like them!
@@cataangle So I took an Arrow into Squadron Battle with 2 Omnis and 2 Longswords and it shredded! It was me vs another guy in an Archimedes, I killed him twice without respawning, then a Khar-Tu joined and as I was about to kill him, the game kicked me for "friendly fire" even though both guys were red lol. The Omnis feel great. The alpha is worth it. I'm definitely a fan of mixed loadouts in MM, the extra capacitor feels almost necessary (if you have bad aim like me lol). I think running some type of ballistics will be necessary vs interceptors so they can't just reset the fight as soon as they lose shields, you'll still be getting direct damage on them so even with their ability to disengage, they're still on a timer, can only get so many jousts at you

any reason why you do not fly decoupled
I feel like I can better fly with coupled in MM. I usually used decoupled in the live model. However, I think when MM will further change (better maneuvering, agility and this kind of stuff) decoupled will be better for me again (or a mix of both). We discuss this every now and then in the org and many people prefer coupled these days, while also acknowledging that this might change again. I feel like that you can be more evasive in coupled (in MM), but have better aim in decoupled.

Whats your opinion on the Sabre
I think the sabre is unfortunately not in a good state. She's very slow, very sluggish when turning and also stealth doesnt really work. I hope they will make her better soon. Maybe she's performing better in PU. However, I think F7 Mk2 is the best currently.
@@cataangle From what I'm seeing (at least in PU) I think stealth is working in terms of range of detection. For a medium sized ship, I usually have to get in much closer before I notice a Sabre on radar vs something similarly sized like the Mk.2.
Great comment, I think i was to generalizing with my comment. I've also tested stealth here and there again in AC (also against a MK2 in 3.23 EPTU) and my results were mixed. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt worked (for example, with the first head on approach he detected me with in 2.5km range, the 2nd approach 4km, even if it was exactly the same). What i wanted to say is that i guess it's just not working always correctly and right. However, and this is also the reason why i will test the sabre/stealth again in PU with 3.23, the situation in AC is entirely different. I could imagine that in PU you can really surprise enemies with stealth and getting detected <3km range. I will do some further testing! thanks.

What would be the best medium fighter, and the best heavy fighter in 3.23?
From my point of view it would be the F7 MK2 with cannons. I'm not sure about heavy fighters, my best guess would be the scorp.
@@cataangle Why would the Scorpius be better than the F8C? And why is the F7MK2 better than the San'tok.Yai? I am just trying to decide the best ship for doing bounty hunting in atmosphere, that would be both nimble and have more hp and shields.
Regarding the scorpius: It's also very hard hitting and it's a heavy interceptor. Its faster than the F8C. My point of view is/was pvp, and i guess speed is better than max dps/tank. But in the end it comes down to the role in the group you are playing in. However, you are talking about PvE: So from pvp point of view, the Mk2 is very tanky, it's (imho) too agile, its very hard hitting. The STY is okay at best, from my point of view, from my point of view she must be way more nimble than she currently is. Also keep in mind, that the current MK2 is doing a lot of dps, but we will get the F7A soon. I would opt in for the F7A.

i think you also will have fun with that, just play it according to the current role/stats. You are not very nimble, but fast, heavy tank and heavy dps. I think that also works :-). Also equip it to the current meta - it seems like that will be cannons!
by the way, you can lower the g-force induce head movement in the game settings and it wont be as disorienting when your accelerating forward.
i thought i've done that some days ago, but i also remember that i've seen a bug related to this in Issue Concil. I will check that again, thanks!

may I ask why your weapon groups change like that? any keybinds for it?
I've set the weapon groups from 2 to 1 group that i shoot all my omniskys at once. However, I think thats also what you are mentioning, they move between two groups while i'm shooting. I don't know why, but i think thats a bug (i want to try to reproduce it and report it in IC), not a keybind or something. Maybe.. it's because the weapon group screen is still on one of the MFDs... i will look into that.
It looks like reverse thrust / braking after boost is still automatic and free. Is it? That's the worst part of the new system for me. The auto-spacebrake after boost. It feels bad and makes no sense.
Due to the increased boost speed you are pretty strong slowed done. I also agree. I would like to see that the overall scm speeds are slightly increased boosting only increases the speed for a maximum of 20%. I think the huge difference between scm and boosted is to high (it’s 50-60%) and therefore it feels like a hard brake when you do not boost anymore. I also think that this is part of the reason why maneuvering is not that possible / strong currently, however, I believe that yogi is totally aware of the whole issue and they will work on that. I agree that this is (currently) the worst part of MM.

No it wasn’t increased. It was just the combination of a really evasive opponent and i didn’t wanted to get close to him because of his ballistics and my arrow. It was a really sweaty fight! I also should have shooted more, but i was extremely focused on hitting and being evasive. I still have much to learn!

Yeah. I would agree that the skill ceiling is lower, because currently aiming is much more important and flying isn’t that important. But this is also a topic which CIG/Yogi is working on. He’s totally aware of the current MM flight issues and he stated that multiple times (for example the last few days in the shadow mosis discord). It’s really just the first version of MM and needs more time. I am excited what will come and change which the next patches!
@cataangle true, he seems like he has an idea and vision on what he is going for. I do fear that with the loudest voices being the hard core pvp light fighter peeps that it will fall prey to what the old model is now. Even now, how often do you see content on hard core pvp with large ships or heavy fighters? The feedback is very skewed and heavys are in a pretty bad place right now. Hopefully the hard core pvprs can focus on more than the light fighters, and give it an honest assessment on how all fighters should perform.
I dont think that will happen. CIG is aware of pve guys too! We did some internal squadron battle testing and we used mixed setups. I am also looking forward for 3.23 in PU to PvP and make new kind of videos. I think the team fights are in a way better place then before currently, although i agree to a certain amount that heavies are not in a good place currently. Keep in mind that we all have to find the "meta" ships and weapons, good team setups and how to fly correctly. It's very different now. Ships have clearly defined roles (or more than one) and must be played in the group accordingly. For example, in our group fights, we usually had at least 1 heavy, 2 mediums with us. We splited roles - while light fighters kept evasive and chased nearly dead enemies, our mediums (F7) covered the light fighters and gunned enemies done. I think medium will be the most flexible role, while heavies are more on the heavy dps-heavy armored role, but very slow/unagile. Overall, since 3.22, we did many team fights and enjoyed it. Keep also in mind that the ship stats are mostly copy pasted currently in the same class (for example the F8 flys like the Vanguard) and much will change there.

I played at first with 0.8 but slowly increased it 1.0. I like it the most so far.
Now that actually looks good, only issue is that it lasts a bit too long for a light fighter df imo
How are you finding fighting light fighters in Mediums? And vice versa. The main issue I'm seeing at the moment is the mediums needing better abilities to either maneuver to counter the light fighters or some ability to extend better so they can create space to engage the light fighters.
Exactly my thoughts. I think Mediums are to „heavy“, except the F7 Mk2 which seems to agile for what it is (heavy dps, tank). The Sabre feels to slow and like a brick when turning, I think it should be more agile and a little bit faster. I think, when in a LF against a MF, you should be able to easily out maneuver in close distance. As a MF, as you said, they should have to possibility to extend easier, maybe have also more boost, and of course have more dps and tank. What I really liked so far that it felt very nice as a LF with scatterguns to destroy MF and HF. As long as you are able to get near them and fly around them.
@@cataangle Yeah that's the rub. The easier the light fighters have it when pushing the worse it is for everyone else. Something that I think the people who keep on pushing for light fighters to have an easy time of pushing forget is the more that's the case the more everyone else needs to backstrafe as a counter.

Is the talon worth getting after 3.23? Or do u recommend sticking with the gladius. The wings breaking at the mere sight of an enemy turned me off in the prior patches.
I agree to your thoughts. If I remember correctly, the talons stats are the same as the gladius in current build. I think that must and will change in the future. I wouldn’t go for it in the current build, as your said the wings can break of easily, it has a bigger body. However, I except that CIG will change the stats of many ships in the near future (they are mostly only roughly adjusted between the ships and most of the time very similar) and therefore make them more different to each other. I would wait and test!

For me personally though, I like putting 1 Rhino and 1 Lighstrike-4 on the talon and using dual weapon groups. The Rhino for a bit of spray and pray which helps keep their shields from regening, and the Lightstrike for that little bit of extra punch.
