About Ed;
I am a "next generation" car guy. I am constantly working on, thinking, planning and dreaming about old cars. I am a Millwright and Electrician by trade, and I have been fabricating and welding since I was a little kid.

It’s definitely worth saving. The car looks very solid all round and there has been a lot of expensive design and development work gone into getting the Baby Benz to our roads. I have one in a state of recommissioning and can’t wait to drive around in it. Good luck!
@markcarpenter8250 thanks very much.

Thanks for walking us along with you. Facing that same task and your preview will help a lot. I like the seats in your Corsa...what are they from?
I'm glad you enjoyed. Those are stock 66 seats with the factory optional head rests added.
@@SlowCarFix Sweet! Mine is a 1965 Corsa with "plane Jane" seats. Yours are very nice.
Hi Ed I hope you had a good Christmas and that the Mercedes project works out well. I am also looking forward to seeing some more work on the '55. I have one of those cars too so it is a bit of a special interest.
@@jamiewing-i9v thanks very much. I will be back on the 55 over the winter. I'll be sure to make some videos. Thanks for watching.
Man gotta love the old g bodies especially the two door Malibus, if i were to find one of these in decent condition i would swap in a gen 4 5.3 LH8 that doesn't come with VVT and AFM, swap out the oem cam for a OEM+ cam like an LS2 Cam with A Dorman LS2 intake(apparently it flows better than a regular ls2 manifold) ditch the chrome, paint it in a baby blue color, lower it a few inches, put in a 6L80 if thats even possible, and making it a daily driver with maybe a bit of spirited driving here and there. Cheers from the central valley of California 👋🙂
@@jaimeramirez-perez7198 Sounds like a great vision.
slow is an understatement. alot less talk would be great
@douggertsch4690 the point of this video was to be step by step in detail, like the title says.
Hi mate, what front suspension are you running, also what are your tyre sizes all round, looks great, kind of what im going for with mine. Cheers.
The front clip is a '78 Camaro and I am running Aldan Coil overs. The rear is a 4 link with coil overs. I believe I'm running 225/60/15 up front and 255/60/15 rear. Rear is on a 15x7 0 offset.
Did your powersteering pump fail prematurely? From what I've read that with that smaller pulley, it will spin the pump faster. To fix that, they say to swap the crank pulley with 25% underdrive.
@808redneckify I have 15000 kilometers on with no issues. I also did the same thing on my 57 Chevy truck, also no issues, similar kilometers.
Great job Ed.(Thats my name too)we will be doing the floor rockers on my Dads 55 210 4 door wagon. Thanks for the videos.Keep up the good work brother.

Put an LS in the Mercedes and you’ll break 200 views.
If I wanted a never-ending, life long project, I'd bring one of yours here. If the views completely stop, so will the videos, but I will still do whatever I feel like with cars. 🕺
Interesting way to go and pick up a car Ed. I understand that it takes less time to fly, but how does the cost of aviation fuel compare to what it would have cost, if you still had your truck & trailer? So, are you going to use the '84 car as a donor for the '93 Ed? Will parts readily interchange between the different years? Will the '93 be a driver when its all fixed up?
@jeffhazlehurst3674 Jeff you ask many questions that I don't have answers for yet. In regards to flying up and driving back, I think it was certainly quicker to fly up in 1hr40 min then the 4.5hr it takes to drive and probably longer with a truck and trailer. My other option was to borrow Greg's diesel ram and trailer, and it would have been a very full day and the fuel ultimately would be the same. 2.50/L for 100LL for the plane with a burn of about $80/ hour. I think my total for fuel for the plane and the mercedes was just under $400. The run of 190e was from 84-93, so most of the parts cross over to whichever car I choose. Or maybe both? It was a fun experience and I honestly thought I'd be on a tow truck.
@@SlowCarFix I hope it all goes well Ed, and you end up with at least one good car when you're finished.

Defo worth saving - you don’t see many with that first single wiper design. That’s 10k parts all day every day but worth every penny go for it. 👍👌
Thanks!
Hi Buddy , you were building this 55 and then the videos dried up did ya ever finish , have not seen a video for ever ! Was super impressed . Hope there’s more
I haven't given up on it, it's not finished, but all the metal work is complete. I put it aside for the summer and will get back to it this winter. It's a long term project.
The most important thing is that you like it so you will enjoy working on it & when you drive it it will be most satisfying
Agreed! Thanks
merc never made another model as good as this one - it still looks good, tough and for sure will outlive modern day ones
Thanks!
My first car was a 66 Corsa Convertible Turbo!
Very nice first car.
Looking good. May I make one suggestion? Ear protection my guy. Even When your hammering. Once there gone you can't get your hearing back. It's never too late to protect what you have left. Keep up the good work.
Good call!
As stated, it is a hobby. As long as you're enjoying yourself that's all that matters. I recently bought a C4 Vette that after repairs I'm a bit upside down but, I'm going to enjoy it for a year or two and move it along. I'm sure the fun you have with this will be worth the investment.
Agreed! Thanks.
As you've pointed out Ed, the car looks like its worth saving, and for the most part, the repairs that it needs are pretty much tailored for someone with your skill set.
Thanks Jeff!
Very easy to listen to. Motivating
Hey man, I just found your video on here and thought I'd give you a shout and ask a question, if it's alright. I have an '80 Malibu i'm considering doing an LS swap for. I'm curious if you could give me an idea of what kind of gas mileage you get out of yours with the 3:72 rear-end gears. Any guidance or info would be appreciated. Louis
Hey, with the 5.3L 4L80E and 3.73 rear gears, I get about 9.6L/100km or around 25MPG without much trouble. I hope that helps.
Like your choice of interlude music👍 JR 10-2-24
Glad you enjoyed
Very cool truck. I’m getting a 47 this weekend. Where did you order the windows and trim from.
@@tobywhitney4798 I used the original
How’d you go about the wiring to the car
I love the W201. Back in the 90's I turboed quite a few. plenty of suspension and bodykit options. They make a great daily!
Fantastic. I have zero idea what I'm doing as far as the KE-Jetronic injection, but the rest looks pretty straight forward.
I had a US spec 1984 190E that I bought in LA. Very good car. It had a sunroof, which I think you don’t have. One thing, the ‘84 190E had a lean start problem that was generally fixed at the dealer by recall.Mine wasn’t caught and for years I had a very slow first start (fine for rest of the day after that). This only affected the 1984 model year. Although a small car, the 190E was in every way a Benz with excellent ride, although not with great power. Was extremely safe. I took an elk through the windshield in Idaho and lived through it. Excellent cruiser. Routinely cranked out 600 mile trips without drama. Good seats. Good luck.
Great info. Any idea what caused the lean start? I expect it to be slow, but I'm used to that. It'll have more jam than my Daihatsu truck.
My dad bought a 1992 E190 off a family friend for €100 when I was a teenager. The head gasket was gone, and the owner wasn’t willing to put any more money into it. My father literally bought that car for the tires on it! Same size tires that he needed for his own car. He drove it to the house, and parked it up, changed the tires and left it sit there for years. It was a lovely grey, and had little to no rust on the body. Crazy how these things happen
That's a great story, thanks for sharing.
Hey guys when doing a ls swap on a 1979 malabu is there a certain type of 53 i have to get
Just came across by accident , I'm English & had several 190s in the.90s . 1st a D reg 86 2.0 L followed by an 88 F reg 2.3 Cosworth. Other than the 190s I've also had an 01 SLK 230K the quality of the 190s were far better than the later SLK. No disrespect but the North American 190s just don't look as good as the European versions the headlights on ours just look so much better. Regarding the warning triangle in Europe only Mercedes have them certainly not any other & definitely not Golf Rs as the older gentleman said I've had 5 Golfs MK2 , Mk4 , 2 Mk5s & my current Mk7 GTD 190 not a single VW has them or they don't in Europe m
Thanks for the info. I agree about the euro lights, I might change them, but I'll get the car working first. thanks for watching
Oh Ed, You got it bad, are there plans to extend your shop, I thought it would be another car. The 64 Vert didn't look to bad. However if anyone can put life back into the 84 Mercedes it most certainly would be you. Good Luck. Look forward to seeing the finished product.
Thanks! That '64 is a great car. You would like it. I am getting pretty full over here, and still want more. It's a sickness, but I'm okay with it.
Seems like a fair deal. Good luck with it. I hope you don't have to put too much money into it.
I'm hoping it's reasonable. We'll see. Thanks for watching
Good luck Ed.
Thanks 👍
Think how much you will save in wiper blades. Looking forward to it.
One of my favorite things about it. I'm looking forward to the project.
I've had 8 Mercedes over the years, and early on I bought one of these in Japan years ago for my mother to drive. Crazy low kms, something like 30,000, in pristine condition and dirt cheap! Only the next morning I looked a little closer at the 3 pictures from the auction and saw that it was RHD 🤭. I flipped it back into the same auction the next week, sold it for more, and covered all the expenses. But I often have regretted not keeping it since!! That was in my very early days of collecting. I just could not imagine my mother driving RHD... we got her a gorgeous LHD BMW E36 soon after that was the envy of the young guys on my crews
@neilrensen8950 I had thought about hitting you up, that you might know a bit about these. I also think I might look for a BMW to match this car, in more turn key condition, maybe from one of your sources.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!!👍🏻
You and me both!
Wipe on clear coats aren't supposed to have the best finish. Its an inexpensive wipe on clear coat. Most people using these products are ok with it looking great from 8-10 feet.
@jandyallday might be the case, but I was disappointed and wouldn't use again.
Metal gapping is so enjoying to me. I have had a handful of 55's and none of them fit up real well when they were new. I enjoy your work. Keep it up

Can you get a shorter intake and if so is there a part number. What alternator did you use and what pully on power steering pump. Do you have to shave the 4l60e also
It will slide right in like the video you can get a car intake alt/power steering pulley is stock
Powersteering pulley is a smaller diameter plastic Dorman pulley. I don't have the part number handy, but it's a common swap on a G-Body because the stock pulley will hit the steering box.
