      I just remember I saw Dave Kindig of Kindig-it Design using the same method of adding the rod to fill gaps.

    Don't listen to the idiots on the internet. You are using the correct proceedure for gaping the doors! Great job!

    “I’m doing this because it’s fun.” That alone deserves subscribing. That’s exactly why I’m rebuilding my 64 GTO by fabricating my own patch panels wherever possible.

    • @SlowCarFix
      @SlowCarFix  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's exactly it, it has to be fun, it sure doesn't make any sense! Thanks for watching and subscribing! 64 GTO is a pretty sweet project to have.

      @@SlowCarFix It is sweet. Better yet my brother bought it in ‘65 with 8000 miles on it and I got it in 67 when he went in the army. So it was my first car. But with 150,000 miles on it, there’s lots to be fixed up.

    You are doing fine. I am enjoying the journey as you get this done. Will be a very well done vehicle indeed when you have finished it.

    Ignore those comments. Trouble is these other shows that claim it's all metal never show the processes to make them appear perfect. Cars were made to be sold and driven, gaps were terrible. Another great video Ed!.

    Metal gapping is so enjoying to me. I have had a handful of 55's and none of them fit up real well when they were new. I enjoy your work. Keep it up

    Excellent video. The alignment on the trunk was a lot of fun to watch. You are very meticulous and have a high standard for what your doing on this 55. Looking forward to the next phase of this build.

    Nice work Ed. Looks like your doing it right to me. That's the way a old pro would do it. Some guys do just get the Bondo out and lay it on thick and make those body lines with it.
    A real craftsman does it out of metal keep up the great work looking mighty fine 👍🏻

    You’re doing what you have to do it make the gaps to work anytime I’m working on doors door gaps. I always make sure I weight the doors so they weigh about the same as they would with all the glass and everything installed.

    • @SlowCarFix
      @SlowCarFix  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point about the weight. Thanks

      I showed doing the trunk, I didn't show the door because I showed some of it in another video and the hecklers were out in full force in the comments, so I didn't bother to show it. I showed as much as I could with the trunk fitting in this video. I only have one camera and have damaged it previously by getting too close to the welds. I'm not sure what more to show. In this video, I showed manipulating and adjusting the trunk, welding the edges using the layout fluid and scribing the edges, filing the panel to fit. That's everything. Thanks for watching.

    Looks pretty darn good all and all not easy for sure. Did you ever try the airbags that you bought to lift the doors when shut. The passenger door looks to go up across the board at least 1/8 or tad more to match the upper door lines to quarter lines & close the gap to the roof. I dont know how picky you are and looks decent the way it is. My drivers door is the same have to raise it up also,LOLL!....Glenn

    • @SlowCarFix
      @SlowCarFix  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I bought them. The doors will be off and on again about 10 more times but yes, the passenger door is low in that video. I'm still working on it.

      Oh Okay Ed looking fwd to you adjusting the doors and such after your extensive work and fitting. I have spent hours myself adjusting gaps without welding very difficult and thats with original quarters on the door And trunk gaps. I have seen a factory chart online showing all original factory gap sizes. Dont know if you seen it might be in the 55 shop manual Anyway your a hustler and great sheetmetal guy...Glenn@@SlowCarFix

    Just found this channel last night, watched a couple videos. Enjoy your work, i`m working on a 1928 whippet rod, and a 1958 Pontiac , i switch between the two, but mostly the whippet. That drum sander/ paint stripper you use, is that a princess auto offering? And how do you like it?

    • @SlowCarFix
      @SlowCarFix  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That drum sander is from Eastwood, it's called their surface conditioning tool. I'm running a wheel from Amazon. It works pretty good, but it's a lot to hang on to. It does the job. There's other videos on my 55 where you can see me using it alot.
      Thanks for watching and the comment.

    I don't get why so many people are worryed about the body planel gaps if you saw the cars of the fiftes from the factory they were not perfect gap i had a new 57 from janesville wis and the body gaps were un even all over the car

    • @SlowCarFix

      I'm just trying to be happy with it. I'm getting there.

  • @johnwehner8096
    @johnwehner8096 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Your way of getting the correct gaps seems to be very similar other car designer do. Your working on a project for yourself and weather you make everyone happy is meaningless. They should respect your methods as something that helps them to decide how to address issues on there projects. Kicking ideas around can only help.
