    Ed you're doing a great job on that 55. It was just about ready for the scrap yard and you're bring it back to life for another 50 years plus. 98% of the people watching would not even attempt what your doing and most would not have the patience to do it. Don't seek perfection in this project, do the best you can in each area with what you have to work with and it will look fantastic. Can't wait to see your bucket list item you'll be picking up.

    • @SlowCarFix
      @SlowCarFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much for the support. You're right, that most wouldn't attempt, but maybe that's the smart way. In the end though, I will feel great about completing it, as I do with my other projects I've finished. This just happens to be the biggest one yet. Perfection to me is worn in, ready to drive anywhere and not afraid to leave it outside a hotel or something. I think I'm on the right track. Oh, the bucket list item... It's here and it's fantastic, and I'm broke! haha

    Hey Ed; I agree with you 100 percent- I have met SO MANY guys that have made their old car “perfect” and then they won’t drive it because they are afraid of any damage. You have a very healthy attitude and your other vehicles all look awesome!!

    Ed, you will be out enjoying your Chevy that you built by yourself, while the "do it right" folks will still be dreaming away about perfection that will never happen. My Dad built a '56 T-bird hot rod from absolute scrap and he had to use methods like yourself to make things fit. The end result was excellent, and nobody bitched about his "incorrect" methods... Keep doing what you do...

      They only complain because I'm showing what I'm doing and not hiding it. I think it's going well, especially considering I was ready to scrap the body last fall. Thanks for the support, as always, and thanks for the comment.

    The original gaps from the factory were very inconsistent. Everybody has their own way to adjust them. So long as your happy that's what matters. 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏

      @SlowCarFix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree. I looked at probably 15 different tri-fives in my friend Dave's collection. (I did a video on them a little while ago). All of them had gaps worse than what I'm doing here. I'm happy, just thought the whole concept of "doing it wrong" was interesting, when there are no rules. Thanks for following along!

      Thanks Jim! I'm going to be happy with it, because I'll work on it until I am. You know the drill there. The thing that interests me is the "right/wrong" way. There is no such thing in my opinion. If it gets done, and looks good, then it must have been right. Oh..... and it's home. It's great, and it's much different than the others. Thanks for following along as always.

    My friend it looks good you're not doing anything wrong just continue at it some things take a little longer obviously you've come this far with it from a four-door so continue on don't listen to the negative comments just continue on and do your best eventually you'll get it going. It might just take longer just continue that's not an easy task converting a four-door into a two-door so just continue working and you'll get it good luck...

    For as rusty as the door bottoms are the best thing to do is re skin the doors and replace the door bottom with a new rust repair piece. You would save yourself a lot of heartache.

    We all head into these things with expectations. And then we learn. Watching someone else, especially on tv or video, it is easy to imagine how we might do something differently, or better. How we might get the metal smoother, or sand it down one more time and really make it perfect. But the truth is in the doing. It becomes a battle between resolve and frustration. So, here you are. You have put in the time and effort and money. And some things went better than others. At the finish of every metal working project the body working begins. And now you are heading to the finish. Make it the best you can make it. Almost every car had some lead filler coming off the assembly line. Old cars all have a hidden history. An expectation of the premium example of a car comes at a high price. But you can still do your body and paint and come off with a beauty. A gal I once knew used to love to say, "tan fat is sexier than not tan fat". If you started out wanting a nicely painted and finished car, do it. That is what a long sanding board is for. Don't cut yourself short.

      I appreciate your comment. You're exactly right. It's easy to imagine how things could be better or easier when you're watching it online. I started out wanting exactly what I'm going for. A car that looks good, solid and as straight as I can get, but also looks worn, old and has a story. No rust, or fake rust. Just some wear in the right places. Also something reliable, that I can drive anywhere, like my '57 Truck. I'm picturing it like a worn in pair jeans, or an old leather belt. Over time, and miles, it will get more wear. I'm looking forward to that. Thanks for following allong and taking the time to comment.

    What the hell is wrong with welding up the gaps. Its a conversion. Its not going to fit perfect. I myself weld the doors. Hell I thought everyone did . What other way is there to do it when you can't adjust the gap. Now I'm pissed. Just keep doing what you're doing. We enjoy it.

    The issues that many people get 'wrong' because they watch other people and their opinion on how they do stuff, example welding the door edge rather than manipulation of the B pillar.
    You're getting it done, let the 'you're doing it wrong' start their own YT channel showing everyone how it should be done, but it won't happen.
