Love Simon..He really understands how horses think..Bear is such a typical, busy brained, over thinking Welsh mare. Slightest change..and its terrifying...my welsh mare was exactly the same. And could be very cheeky...especially if someone other than me rode her..take the pee. Welshies are hilarious. Not the easiest pony to ride..But once you know thier wierd quirks..😂😂😂 Yes it will be an experience for Simon. Bear is the most amazing pony..xx

I absolutely loved the way simon approached bear refusing the poles in the first try and gradually lead her to trotting perfectly contently over the poles without even thinking about it! Love Bear!

bear looked so relaxed and happy in this video. with the funny horses, especially mares, I think finding a way to do it KIND OF their way and make it seem like their idea is how you go about it. picking fights and perfectionism and demanding is always a sure way to get decked. being firm, in a friendly way and presenting it in the most horse-friendly way is the way to go.

I dunno, my 14hh highland pony was shockingly able to keep up with front runners for full day hunting! The only major problems were those short legs put both of us close to all the mud being kicked up (i usually left on a gleaming white pony and came back riding a bay mud monster); my boots getting filled with water when rivers actually were quite deep if not on leggy things; and there was 1 occasion where we both hit the ground, after her front legs disappeared into a bog that had appeared to be no more than a shallow puddle for all the lanky animals lol! Oh and there was also a fair bit of ribbing at first couple of meets, but they shut up when she kept up lol! Tbf she was a super pony and with no lorry/trailer, I had to hack her to every show, hunt meet, clinic etc, plus I had hopes of doing the Golden Horseshoe endurance ride, so spent most of my mid-late teens doing a massive amount of long distance riding with her, so she was insanely fit, instead of being your typical obese, “lazy” hippo 🤣

Awww Wilma is doing so well!!!! I've started sharing a 14.2/14.3 grey Connie and she looks so much like dee dee! Shes five years old and I'm helping to train her up a bit and I can't wait to see how far she gets. Training young horses is the best thing ever. So rewarding. And your doing so well with Wilma. She's really an amazing horse I wish you good luck with her❤❤❤

Good job all around! Have you ever actually told Bear what the goal is? Have you effectively described to her that going over jumps smoothly makes you happy? She won't understand your words, but your body language will get across to an attentive horse just fine.
