Great video enjoyed that. Have Fished there a few times its a fantastic beat with a great Ghillie.
Great wee video 😊. Ian you put me in mind of a chap I use to fish with. He pull a box out and have the flee on before you could see it lol keep them coming 😃🎣🎣🎣🎣
A lot of talking on a top salmon beat, would be nice to see a fish caught
I and my pal Bob have fished this beat since Eric Robb was the gillie. Then the very close friend Lionel Main took over. Unfortunately all have passed. Bob and I were the instigators of the Buckie angling group back in the day. We had spring week and a back end week for many years. Fond memories of all the aforementioned people and many more we met along the way. I'm still fishing, but wish they were too. Alan Thornley.
Takes me back to the 80s, watching the great Arthur Oglesby on vhs, doing his instruction classes on the stretch.
Great stuff, really enjoyed it,well done James and Ian 😊

Is Eyebrook going to be open in 2025? It would be great if it was. Simon Artley Manchester
Hi Stuart iam wondering if 10ft 7wt rod would cast 8wt lines or am I better purchasing the 10ft 8wt cheers Willie grant
@williamgrant6647 Bit of a tricky one to answer William. A #7 rod will cast an #8 line for sure. The Cadence floaters match absolutely perfectly with their respective rod. But with sinking lines by other manufacturers its a right mixed bag. For example, if you are using Airflo Di-3 and Di-5 I’d defo pair the #8 rod with their 7/8 line. BUT the 7/8 Airflo Hover Intermediate feels much better on my #7 rod. Join my facebook page below and send us a private message through that if you want to let us know what lines you intend to use 👍 facebook.com/share/1Dq4f3BG3k/?mibextid=LQQJ4d Cheers Stu

If you have a tapered leader say 3 mtrs 9 ft do you take this as part of your measured leader that your mentioning at the beginning. So only a 2 mtr or 6 ft of 7llb fluoro to a point fly. Or do you add the fluoro at 15 ft to end of taper.?
Hi @brianwalton3016 You can include the tapered leader as part of the total. But depending on the flyline, I might clip a bit off either end. I would tend to add a tippet ring to the end of the tapered leader. Am hoping to do a short video of how to do all of this on my facebook page in the next month or two. Please give it a ‘like’ through the following link and you’ll see it when it gets put up. Many thanks Stu facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094263695351
Hi Stuart thank you for the information about the bag and 10ft wt7 rod I bought the 10ft 5wt rod and very pleased with it I was just thinking of getting the 7wt rod wandered how it would compare with the 7wt vision stillmanic 7wt I am not on Facebook cheers Willie grant
@williamgrant6647 Not a problem Willie. That’s great you are enjoying the 10ft #5. It’s a seriously good rod. To be honest I’ve not used the Vision, so can’t comment with too much conviction. But I think the Stillmaniac may be a little stiffer from speaking to lads who have one. I suppose the 10ft #7 would be best described as a meatier version of the Cadence #5. It’s a similar feel and action though, and one you can use sinking lines nicely with as well. Many thanks, Stu
Hi stewart what is the tackle bag you have by your waist and is the 10ft wt7 able to cast sinking lines cheers Willie
@williamgrant6647 The bag is a Fishpond Switchback Pro. Never regretted buying one Willie. There are ways of carrying more stuff, but these are really comfortable and everything is quick and easy to get at. Wouldn’t go back to a waistcoat. The 10ft #7 will cast a sinking line no problem. If you give my facebook page a like and send a message through there, I’d be more than happy to answer any queries through there a little quicker if needed. facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094263695351 Many thanks Stu
That looks like a great place to fish! Great video thank you!
Thank you @Shadrach666 Its pretty good 👍
Cracking vid.
Many thanks @arthurgraham7011. Much appreciated 👍 Stu
Fair play to the student for letting him being filmed there....
Hi James. Great meeting you today at Blithfield and giving up some of your time for me. Really enjoyed using your set up. Can’t wait to see what you can come up with for me. Got a few ideas for promoting your company so will be in touch soon. Daz.
Much for wigwam and 2 nights 2 adults fishing and have you a bait pond
@alana9354 No idea how much the wigwams are as I don’t work there. Contact the fishery direct for that. Confirm there is definitely a bait pond - in the bit with the rods, lines and flies near the end of this video thats it in the background.
That helps me out a lot. Cheers
Fantastic to get closer to the artisans, who made my favorite trout reel. Thanks for posting this.
i have a 10ft csm 7wt that i got at the irish fly fishingf air it was a prototype rod but as a junior it handles beautifully.
Shame as Daycote, Eyebrook and Thornton closed and company liquidated in 2024! Rescue??
Love your channel ❤
Thanks very much @MattFrancey-ti6dj 👍 Really appreciate you saying so. Many thanks, Stu
Hello there. Great video! I’m so very curious what rods are in your hands. They look like super fast recovering rods. I’m a new spey caster, and my 13’6” 8wt has a LOT more wobble to it… Cheers, Gus
@aegir8756 They’re Cadence fly rods - designed by the man himself in this video, Ian Gordon. And good spot with the lack of wobble. New spey caster only in name 👌 The carbon means theres much less side to side movement and quicker recovery in these rods, so they’re pretty damn accurate. Here’s the link to the website and the 13ft 6in rods if you’re in the market.. www.cadencefishing.co.uk/product/cadence-cf20-ian-gordon-13ft-6in-fly-rod/ Cheers Stu
What is the rod carrier you are using?
@cjay8163 The rod holder is made by a friend. If you send me a private message through my facebook page ‘Stuart Ingledew Fly Fishing’ I will send you his details. Click this link:- facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094263695351 Don’t want to put his details on a public forum is all. Cheers Stu
Hi stew I'm going to new mills next week for a few days in the pods I was wondering what type of indicators you were using 🤔
@peterpann9197 They are indicators and flies I designed and make myself so they aren’t available from the shops. If you send me a private message through my facebook page it might be possible to get some full rigs sent to the fishery in time. Click this link:- facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094263695351 Hope you have a good week. Theres some cracking brownies in there 👌 Cheers Stu
Hello , nice video .I was interested in that thing you carry your fly rods around .Something you don't see where i live .What's it called .Thanks
@nicothiry4667 Many thanks 👍 Its just a fly rod holder - not sure theres an actual name for it now you mention it 🤔 If you send us a message via my facebook page (Stuart Ingledew Fly Fishing) I’ll send you the contact details of the lad who makes them. Don’t want to put his details on a public forum is all. He can post overseas if you are not UK based I believe. They are really handy things and stop tangles and also help stop people standing on rods normally laid flat on the ground. As well as the obvious positive of making multiple rods much easy to carry with one hand. If you look at the Chatton video theres a more detailed review of it in the first half. Cheers Stu
Cracking video, look forward to you doing .ore at hury but early and late season when it is colder.
@martintickleholland5571 Thanks very much 👍 Appreciate your comment. It was terrible conditions when we filmed and didn’t show the main body of the reservoir to its full potential, which is normally fantastic as I think you may know. The wind was the hottest I have ever fished in. Was like being in an oven. Thanks again, Stu
Yeah I love fishing at hury but it always seems to be windy 😂😂
🙂👍 Aye - its a windy old place. Even worse when its calm with the midges. Great place regardless though. Maybe see you on the bank one day @martintickleholland5571 Cheers Stu
Hi Rob/Jamie, great short video. I a bit of a neat freak when it comes to being prepared and organised. Not been doing much fly fishing, but looking to get back into it. The whole boat box concept is very interesting and the prep work. Inwoukd very much like a longer video similar to the ‘whats in your seatbox’ videos we get in coarse / match fishing and the manufacturers of the different components etc. Top job and keep it up.
Where did you get your rod holder from pal ???
Send us a message at Stuart Ingledew Fly Fishing on facebook @rookey8061 and I’ll give you his email and number privately. So it keeps his details off a public forum 👍
What weight line do we normally use for trout fishing can’t understand the sizes and weights very well quite confusing?
Hi @owenjordan7165 It’s a world of confusion I’m afraid 🙂 If you are fishing lakes in the UK for rainbow trout, get a #8. These are your best all rounders. Just about everyone who has fished for a few years will have a #8 in their rod collection, so they’re never wasted money. As a quick explanation, the lower the number, the lighter the line and the less distance you can cast. You can get rods as low as #2 and generally up to #8 for trout fishing. Why do we bother with lighter lines and rods? Because the lighter lines help present the flies a little better, the fish don’t get so much of a fright when a lighter line lands on the water, and a lower rated outfit is lighter in the hand and you feel the fish better when you hook them. A heavier outfit will cast further and not be as badly affected by the wind. There’s plenty of the top anglers in the UK will use nothing but a #8 line and rod. There’s a Cadence blog that will give plenty of pointers on rod and line weights here in much more detail. www.cadencefishing.co.uk/blog/fly-fishing/choosing-a-cadence-stillwater-fly-rod/ And if you have never trout fished before and haven’t got a clue what to buy for your first trip, read this: www.cadencefishing.co.uk/blog/fly-fishing/essentials-for-fly-fishing-on-stillwaters/ Here’s a few pointers on what to do on your first ever trip: www.cadencefishing.co.uk/blog/fly-fishing/beginners-series-what-to-do-on-your-first-fly-fishing-trip/ Then if you want to take it up properly, here’s the extra things you’d need to buy: www.cadencefishing.co.uk/blog/fly-fishing/non-essentials-for-fly-fishing-on-stillwaters/ Hope that helps, but if you do have any questions let us know and we’ll try to help 👍 Cheers Stu
@@CadenceFlyFishing thank you, you taught me how to catch my first fly fishing trout on Saturday the 16th down at derwent will never forget that moment cheers stu legend
So that was you!? 👍 Don’t know who was buzzing more with that fish. Was great to see and you defo deserved it Owen. Fast learner. Just getting this facebook page up and running if you want to join? Send us any questions through the messenger if you want? Link here: facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094263695351 Thanks for commenting anyway. Enjoyed the craic with you and your brother 👍 Stu
@owenjordan7165
How to make simple things complicated. Left snake roll is all you need there and strip the line with right hand. Why do you change hand between casts? This won't work when you need to manage loops of running line anyway. Terrible and totally useless habit.
Another very informative video Stuart particularly as I'm about to start fishing Chatton this spring so might see you up there . Have to say I'm enjoying fishing with the 5 weight rod I bought from Cadence.
Cheers Bill. You’ve got a proper rod there 👌 Will hopefully see you there soon. Its fishing well at the moment and getting onto the buzzers now. Stu
Pleasure meeting you the other day mate and the time you had for me, and that SM 9’6 7 weight very impressive!
Was a good couple of hours craic Trevor. Really enjoyed it. Its why we go fishing eh? Reckon you’ll have that #7 pretty soon. 👌
Brilliant video lan. I fished with john a number of times having great memories in the Kings Hut and we caught a few fish aswell
Hi Stuart thanks for your veiws on cadence rod i have 10ft 5wt it is braw use it for floaters and sink tip the 9ft 9 8wt or 10ft wt sounds good thanks once again for your help
Not a problem @williamgrant6647 Those 10ft #5’s are great aren’t they? Glad you’re enjoying yours 👍 Thats magic to hear.
Will a 10ft wt7 handle fast sinking lines
Hi William. In short, the answer is yes. Very much so. If you are buying for sinking line only, I’d just err towards the 9ft 9in #8. But the 10ft #8 is more versatile and handles sinkers great. There’s an article here that discusses most Rod buying considerations. Click this link www.cadencefishing.co.uk/blog/fly-fishing/choosing-a-cadence-stillwater-fly-rod/ It might help you decide 👍 Many thanks Stu
Do you not find it heavy
Good video made me subscribe for this channel
Thanks James. Really appreciate that 👍 Cheers, Stu
How much would there cost for the week mate am thinking about it
@jamesmcshane5248 You’re best emailing enquiries@newmillstrout.co.uk for that James. Good spot for a few days though 👌 Cheers, Stu
Well in my friend great tips as usual for me .its sub n thumbs from me cheers
Many thanks for that. Really appreciate it 👌
Brilliant caster and vid. Thanks
@trevorluft1763 In answer to your question about whether the bag could take food for a long day (which I’ve accidentally deleted while replying)… Only if you’re a sparrow. Its a good enough size for most of the fishing stuff you’d need and a few cereal/chocolate bars on top, but not a three course meal. At a push you could get a supermarket sarnie in there by sacrificing some tackle I suppose. Its certainly not a tiny space. But not like one of the old style shoulder bags you could park a car in. I do clip a water bottle to one of the outside rings though. And it doesn’t really get in the way or pull down on the straps too much. If we meet on the bank you’re welcome to a look 👍 Cheers,
