Hi all, what happened to a driver at Robsons called the Fatman I knew him a long log time ago back in 1970 he used to load up at Stamina dog foods in St Helens when I started Lorry driving , and now well retired after 44 yrs.

More great pictures, used to see a lot of Roba vehicles around Harlow in the late 70's/80's, where they had a depot in Burnt Mill, which was follow on from W M Wood of Enfield, although in the newer plain blue livery. The Elddis F88 also looks good, jut like a Corgi model I have.

The Renault R365 Turboliner was a good looking truck The Scania 143 and Volvo FH12 were the Kings of the fridges narrowly followed by the Scania 113 360.

The Maggie's with the bonnets were Workaholics. The ERF E10 325 was a very flexible lorry too.

I always loved the 1980s Seddon Atkinson 401 tankers that supplied the local stations to me from the fuel depot in Belfast. They were in mainly Jet, Texaco and BP liveries and they were some of fastest and well driven wagons around and were always spotless. The DAF 3300 and 3600 with the Space Cab was a very rare and delightful sight back in the day. Ah, one of the early ERF ECs with the door handle in the muck. Fair play to ERF, they sorted this out quite quickly by moving the handle further up the door. Simples. Those Volvo F10s always got you home. That Ergomatic Octopus with the little sleeper extension was starting to think about the long distance driver. Excellent video.

Nice old Mercedes you sneaked in at the end there. Mercedes did a v10 also,I think this pic was a v8,500+ with the extra fuel tank.

swains have a nice big yard near me in astley wigan, its a bit old school. i do wonder though how long until someone wants the land for houses its a big site.

Im a 49 year old uk truck driver and i always think i was born 20 years too late .. id love to have driven some of them classic dafs and vovlos...

Two of my old photos here I put on trucknet years ago. The two Dafs, Transcontinental and Roadtrain were owned by two subbies from Cardiff, Eric and Alan. The John Raymond Volvos were in a batch of photos I had given to me as a youngster. There was a few other pics on trucknet of them I put on as well.

Carlisle Commercials at Golf Course 1995. A volvo 850 estate to be won. My guest(Kenny Briggs) got within a foot of hole 16. It is short but blind!. Brave Raymond Dixon of Burnholme arrived! His ball , about 3 foot from No 16..."Better measure that!" he demanded. I measured it by hand!..."Where,s yer tape measure you fool?" he demanded. "Aint got one!" I replied....Raymond marched off in a rage to see my boss (Dennis Oliver)!....I knew (of Course) how to measure and I knew that Kenny Briggs had won the car!....LA5 Warton Lancs

I am a for a bit of nostalgia as much as the next guy however that truck at the 2.50 mark I wouldn’t like to say if it was a breaker or came back to the yard like that 😢them plastic cab erf s were death traps as was most of the other stuff at that time in fairness to Volvo them being the first manufacturer to fit seat belts as standard and they put a lot of work into there cab safety for the driver I would sit in the worst of any modern truck we still se big smash ups and an out right head on isn’t going to end well but a roll over on a corner the drivers quite likely to walk away unharmed if you roll one the older trucks over there’s usually not a lot left.my point is some things are better now it’s just easy to forget it😊

At 00.32,JugoPetrol, well-known by every "gastarbeiter"going back for holidays in Greece and Turkey.

Millicans had a great fleet back in the day mainly Erfs &Fodens if i remember correctly

used to do back-loads from Marston Valley Bricks back along in 1961 never could see how my boss made anything out of those loads, took so long loading and off loading 7,000 by hand.

Great pic of the Foden and boat(8.05) with Jag police car,I bet the copper held on to his hat when in chase,as he had to hold the huge sign on roof down too😂,I can remember these cars , probably a 4.2litre,but it would still give a modern Volvo a good run for it's money today, fabulous old pics as always 👍.

I remember most these companies as were local to me but sadly a lot of them gone now

In all of the videos the presentation of the Scottish trucks make the English trucks look scruffy and dirty in comparison.

Minute 3:07 Scammell Sampson with a Detroit 8V 71 Engine, this picture took at their Sheffield Yard on Brightside Lane. Worked on the truck a few times whilst based at this yard with Pickfords. Remember doing a clutch on it 1975, had to lift the rear end of the truck really high to get the gearbox out from under the truck to be able to get to the clutch & replace it.

My old man drove for Peter Hinchcliffe for years, brought bk some memories seeing some of his fleet
