    Great job! They came out great! It would have been cool to see how you did the leatherwork. If you do something like that again in a future video, please include that. Did you consider using a drawknife to rough out the new handle? I love using a drawknife. if you don't have one, you should look for a project one to fix up and add to your shop. 😊🎉😊🎉😊🎉😊

      Thank you! I had an idea where I wanted to go with the hammers but the path to get there changed a bit in the process! I still have some if that old saddle leather so you may see it again soon 👍 (with a bit of leatherwork video). I do have a drawknife but it's rather large for most of the smaller handles to shape ( an axe handle on the other hand would be perfect ). I do have a couple of very vintage spokeshaves that I use on occasion. Thanks for the visit - take care! 🛠👍

    Very nice job.Those hammers came out beautifully, and make a nice matched set with the faceted handles and the leather wrap. Extra credit is due for the hand made handle out of the repurposed oak, and the ingenious wedge made from the key. Fairmont tools are rare where I live, but I do have a few wrenches. Any makers mark on the other hammer.

      Thank you very much! I love being able to repurpose items I have lying around the garage 👍 No makers mark on the other hanmer, there was a very faint painted logo at one time on the handle but it was 98% gone. This was a really fun project - was not expecting it to go in the direction it did 👍🛠😁 Take care!

    I have two different drill but I can't find bits for them they both use the same style bits. You pull outward on the collar to install and remove bits. I have a couple old bits but would like to find a complete set of bits. Both of the drills both work fantastically.

    • @MattsGarage1791
      @MattsGarage1791 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello Lester, thanks for your comment. I've seen three different shank sizes for the North Brothers Yankee/Stanley Yankee drill bits. 9/32, 7/32( fits the Handyman in my video , and 5/32( fits the #40 in the video ). Most Millers Falls drills accept the Yankee bits. I also have at least three other style of bits that are not Yankee pattern. One is a cross pattern shank that fits Sears Merit brand. You can buy the Yankee bits on Ebay, sometimes Amazon but cost alot. The least expensive way is to find an old, undesirable donor drill that still has bits in the handle. 👍 I've found comple sets in old rusty drills.

    They look good. I grew up around bodywork, my dad being a custom body man, and inherited his hammers as well as collecting my own. Out of all the ones I have I've never seen one like the one that had the blue handle. Now I NEED one! One thing about the old body hammers; they tended to come with handles that were really long and thin. They got broken a lot. Mostly from getting run over. Supply shops that sold abrasives, Bondo and paint usually sold a ton of handles as well.

    My son bought one very similar to this pump at a yard sale this past spring for $20. He has used it on his 1975 Jeep wheels. His has the "US" on one side and on the other is says "ORD". It has what could be the original hose which is much shorter and if my memory is right, there is something to hold the end of the hose. Great job on this! I wonder if the top cap of my son's is brass. Speaking of brass, I think I spotted the brass hose ends in the background you cleaned up for the classy brassy challenge.

      Thank you so much for the story! there were several manufacturers during the war and you can generally date the pumps from all of the pieces such as cap, fittings, handle, base. Only the 1st ones produced in 1942 were stamped QMC, the rest were stamped ORD ( ordnance ). You'll probably spot several past projects hanging out in the background in videos - good eye! 👍🛠🪖
