    As someone who has my own fair share of hatchets I really enjoyed this one. I tend to collect the things I like and hatchets are one of the many things I collect. Thanks for the great show tell next time my friend love your best life and God Bless

      i LOVE hatchets! I'm fond of taking the completely rusted ones that have been buried for a century and resurrecting them into something cool and useful. Thanks for dropping by, appreciate your time! take care.

    Great restoration. I thought it looked like a roofing hammer at first. I've never heard of a produce hammer. Thanks for sharing

      thanks! I wasnt sure either when I first saw it - the double pry notches threw me. similar to a plumb crate hatchet but apparently more specialized. appreciate the visit 👍

    Love the hatchet...now I must find one. Plumb would prefer a maroon handle, but you do you.

      appreciate the visit! yah, I know the red mahogany is the 'proper' color and Plumb enthusiasts will roll their eyes...but the early American is kinda nice. thanks!

    Very nicely done. Turned out really well that’s something to be proud of. I love those old tools. This is the first time I’ve ever seen that configuration on a plum hatchet. Thanks for sharing and have a great week.

      hey there toolscouter thanks for stopping by! it's definitely a more scarce plumb hatchet. typically see the crate hatchet with just a single notch. the plumb stamp puts this little guy 80 ish years old?

    First-time viewer, now a subscriber. Very nice restoration, Matt. I have a similar hatchet that is great for kindling. I've had good success with Super Blue, but I really don't do much bluing. Lately, I'm trying to remove the rust but leave a little of the patina (Sorry, Scoutcrafter.) I see you're a Penguins fan! -Tom from Pittsburgh

    • @MattsGarage1791
      @MattsGarage1791  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      awesome and welcome aboard Tom ( fellow Pittsburgher )! I can definitely see this being my new kindling hatchet. I've used super blue quite often on other projects too. sometimes, like on old firearms you'll get the perfect patina that is almost purplish brown - THAT'S a good look. Scoutcrafter is a good guy ). I need to hang a few steelers/penguins artifacts in the garage. thanks again, really appreciate the visit!

    That hatchet came out very nicely. Some people would probably have separated the head from the handle, but I'm glad you didn't. It was solid and secure. Very nice job on a useful tool. The vise you used looks like it has the art deco lines of a vintage Craftsman.
