Hi! I’m Nigel and I’m retired and live in Lancashire in the UK. I spend my time wandering the countryside with my beautiful dog ‘Molly. We just chat about whatever is topical, or whatever enters our collective minds.
Simply Christmas Day
Molly and I will be having a simple Christmas Day. Some like it quiet, some like it completely crazy, and some don't like it at all.

People Beat Their Dogs, And The Dogs Promise To Be Better

I hate cruelty to animals, or people, for that matter. When I saw someone beating their dog it did more than make me angry, It made me wonder what goes on in these people's heads, and what makes them think it's ok.

This was coincidental, not intentional. Three heart attacks and cancer, and yet I'm still happy and at peace with what I have now, and what may come in the future. I'm convinced my lifestyle and mindset are the reason I'm stil...

Good to hear a defense of capitalism too which is important in today's world where people are so convinced that they can have everything provided for free in some commune-like society. I agree with you profit is necessary to create goods and services, or else there's no capital. I think (at least in America) we instinctively understand that in all but two things - education and health care. There are some places where free market pricing doesn't work because the rules of capitalism don't apply, like.... oh IDK, the price of gas/petrol, electricity. No competition there.
While I don't live an extravagent life, I don't take holidays very often, I have a mid-range car, live (alone) in a one-bedroom apartment ("flat" for those in the UK). I do have my occasional spending sprees, I don't think complete minimalist is something I can do. My main problem is clutter. It's not that I buy too much it's that I have a tough time getting rid of things. I keep meaning to go paperless but have all sorts of papers and mail (post) that I have to sort through and my big thing is declutter and have someone come round to get rid of old furniture and broken coffee makers that I can't or don't know how to get rid of (bin).
I feel for people who feel pressured to spend a fortune and get in debt to impress others. Its not what its about!
Absolutely. A lot of people who feel pressured, then pass that on to family members. It isn’t fair.
It’s only another day. Family is important. Presence not presents.
Absolutely. 👍
Encouraging 💙 It suits me also
Thank you. It’s made me 70 and at peace. 😊
YT just suggested this , you must have been not long out of the hospital at the time. Lovely country as always , marry Christmas Nigel and Molly
Blimey. I can’t even remember recording this. And a merry Christmas to you, too. 😊❤️🎄🐕🦺🐾

💙
Me and my husband are having our first Christmas with just the 2 of us. Our daughter is going to her in laws so our house will be very quiet and we can just do what we want, really looking forward to it xxxx
I’m sure you’ll have a great day. It’s a great day to do as you please. 😊🎄🐕🦺🐾
It's all about money now /once a day used to be Adem and Eve Mary and the child and the three wise men .
Wouldn’t it be interesting to ask random teenagers what the significance of the day is? I wonder what the answers would be.
Nigel, I wish you had taught my physics class…your Third Law of Motion surpasses Sir Isaac’s!!!🥳. Being in the now and simply enjoying what you have is one way to be happy. You are very wise!!
Ha! I just turn the camera on and start waffling. All sorts of stuff tumbles out. 😊❤️
"People are the same where ever you go" - Billy Joel🎶🎵🎶
We used to do a big, busy Christmas because we were young parents with a bunch of kids. I wish someone had shown us a better way to celebrate. How much time and money we wasted on buying, buying and buying as part of the holidays. Life is so much simpler now that we no longer see Christmas as a time of giving material things.
Don’t beat yourself up, we all did the same. I don’t even think about presents now.
You ARE "a font of knowledge" Love your dry humor 😊 Another lovely video with such excellent rambling both verbal and physical.
Thank you so much, Karene. 😊❤️
Have a good un😝🤪🤘✌️
You too, Nige. 😁👍👍
I wait a few days after Christmas and buy a few nice things for myself. As for Christmas, peace and quiet is the best gift. Merry Christmas to you and precious Molly.
And a Merry Christmas to you, too, Robert.
Hi Nigel. You're full of sensible words as usual! Actually, many years ago I saw a short (I think TH-cam) where an older widow lady was explaining that all her kids and grandkids wanted to come to her for Christmas because they wanted to eat Mum's cooking. However, she couldn't afford the expense so she did ask the kids to pay their share. I remember thinking that perhaps if she put away a little bit every week, she wouldn't have to ask them. I also thought that it would have been nice of the kids to offer rather than having to be asked. There's nowt so queer as folk! Anyway - you've got yours sorted! Have a wonderful Christmas. Enjoy every minute.
Shops - everyone’s bonkers I’m doing what your doing slowing it down is THE THING
Madness, I tell you! I’ve just been listening to the radio. There’s an advert on suggesting people buy someone in the family an ev mini for Christmas. Only £4k down and £300 a month. 🚙 I’m getting two.
It is really the simple things 🙏🏼
It really is. 😊👍
I grew up watching keeping up appearances and seeing misses bucket 🪣 (pronounced 💐) flaunt and being a menace and it subconsciously taught me not to be like that lol but strangely that's what everyone has turned into. It's sad but hopefully we'll all have a come too moment and all become a little more kind and humble and just ignore all the bs.
I associate more with Onslow. At least he was genuine. 😊
@primalengland when my husband first saw the show he looked at onslow and said that's me lol 😆 I'm glad you knew the reference and I know you will by the sounds of it but have a merry Christmas you and miss molly.
Great video… thank you Nigel ❤️ I love the feeling of goodwill at Christmas; the bright lights, and; the music. I hate: the Commercialism; the TV adverts encouraging you to overindulge (and the ones after Christmas Day telling you to diet and go to the gym🙄); donation buckets being rattled under my nose - and especially those at the end of the shopping tils where I can’t escape!! This year was my year to ‘host’. However my brothers and sister made excuses as to why they wouldn’t be able to come. I was invited to theirs but I instead booked myself into a spa for a few days - so can’t wait!! I loved your musical interlude and the footage of Molly. That ‘dog’ she approached was a bit aloof… Molly only wanted to touch noses! Molly should have told it (in dog talk) that it did not look cool in that outfit the human owners had donned on it. 😂 Peace and love 💕
Ha! We meet those two every day. They are a bit standoffish, as I thought was the owner, until she gave Molly a treat this morning. Perhaps she’s not so bad after all. 😊🐕🦺❤️
I absolutely love your calmness and your love for a very simple life. I watch your videos as part of my 5am morning routine and they always set me up with ideas of how I would like my life to be which is simple, calm and happy. Xxxx❤
Thank you, Elizabeth. I’ve had a very calm, laid back personality all my life. My mum calls it my ‘curse’, because I can’t get angry. I’ve got to 70 without too much conflict, so I’m quite happy with that. 😊❤️
...and a PEACE-ful and a LOVE-ly Christmas to you too, Nigel.
Hi Nigel, Have a wonderful, blessed, peaceful Christmas. Lots and lots of love to you and Molly. Give her a pat on the head from me.
Nigel... What are your three favorite Beatle albums? Your five favorite Beatle songs? Your favorite Beatle? Your favorite Christmas song by one of the lads... Everyone else is welcome to join in... Merry Christmas all!..
On yer bike, off ya go, and my favorite, trot on. I love the Brits and their way with the English language. 😊❤️
@@thomasupton2664 I love the English language. You can almost squeeze it in your hand. 😊
@primalengland yes!! ❤️
On the subject of charging guests to your home for food at christmas? Are those people insane?! In my younger days when my family members used to come together at christmas (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents etc), no body arrived empty handed. Everyone cooked and brought something with them for the table. Ended with enough food to feed an army. If you state that you'll provide everything.. You foot the bill and you foot the bill gracefully.
To simplicity! Personally... (as a nomad) This year, Christmas will likely be spent in a quiet free camp in rural Australia.. a camp where the masses avoid like the plague and consumerism is more than an hour away in every direction. Merry Christmas mate! Best wished to all!
This year I have chosen to stay at home on my own and eat and drink as normal with one or two treats to mark the occasion. Looking forward to it! 😊
Many thanks mate. You remain an island of sanity in a mad, mad world. Have a very Happy Christmas . Cheers🥰🥰
@@Seamus3051 Thank you so much, Seamus. Have a great Christmas.
I am also looking forward to Xmas day. I will be at my friend’s house, he cooks the side dishes & I cook the turkey & make the sage and onion stuffing. We will have a couple of bottles of wine & enjoy each others company while listening to some background music. On Boxing Day it is my birthday! It will be a very quiet day, eating leftovers, walking my dog & watching Christmas films. Simple but enjoyable. All the best to everyone ❤️🖖🐾
Hi Nigel. Really enjoyed your video. I was in stitches laughing at what you were saying about these big happy family gatherings on Christmas day 😂. So funny but so true 🤣. I'll be on my own all day. I'll probably do what I normally do and get out for a few walks. Hope you manage to get out for a walk. Can't beat it! They can shove all this happy family malachy. It's just chaos 🤔. Peace and love
Ha! I absolutely agree. Elaine. Just do what suits you, and have a great Christmas. 😊❤️🐕🦺
I’m not religious so I don’t bother with it. Given everywhere is closed, I get out and celebrate the fact that there’s at least one day in the year when the pressure to spend the cash you don’t have takes a back seat-that is until Boxing Day of course when all the madness returns.
I’m not religious either, but I just like singling out a day to feel good about something I can’t put my finger on.
I get worried when I see that Molly disappearing behind you.
Ha! She’s fine. The camera makes it look farther away than it is. Everyone knows her. I wouldn’t go more than a few yards before someone would be shouting. ‘Nigel, Molly’s here, begging for biscuits.’ 😊❤️🐕🦺
Planning a grand, simple, quiet, great food Christmas. Just the way we like it. 😊❤️🌲💙🦮
Sounds perfect. 😊❤️🎄
Merry! Merry! 🥂Peace and Love to you and yours.💚❤

What’s Boxing Day?!
Day after Christmas Day was a day off for the servants who had worked in the great halls to look after the Lords and Ladies. The Gentry would give the servants gifts (in boxes.) Now we just go on Amazon. 😊❤️
@@primalengland I WILL NEVER go to AMAZON.
Charging people for the Christmas dinner that you prepared for them is insane. 😆 I couldn’t imagine preparing a meal for somebody and then turning around and asking to be reimbursed financially especially if it’s like a family Christmas dinner wow is this what we’ve come down to as a society? 😅
I really don’t know where this came from. It’s insane.
Lol 😂🤣 I shall be a million miles away from humans. Yeah, yippie! Animals and nature are my Christmas VIP's and loving every precious wonderful moment of it. Merry Christmas to all, have fun. 🐕🐕🌲🌲🎉🎉✌peace and love ❤
I spent this evening wrapping Molly’s presents. She’s the only one I buy them for. 😁❤️🐕🦺
Loved this, it made me smile. I am alone but I will have xmas dinner with mincemeat pies after and chill. Boxing Day is my egg and bacon and fry up day. I see many people in the comments that are also on their own. Let us all lift our glasses and say "cheers", merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. ❤
With our teens every school holiday day could be a fry up day! 😊Christmas holidays are just made for sleeping late and coming down to beans and toast and 🥓 and eggs and marmelade. Then tea and Christmas cookies - and a slice of stollen here in Germany! - games, chilling with grandma and a relaxed dinner! Isn't late breakfast, what we all really, really want! They even concede to getting out once a day 🌬️ to appease their mom and ascertain that life style😂! Have a merry holiday🎄🥓💨🎄✨
Thank you Nigel. You are spot on and I had a good laugh . My daughter's ex is coming down from the North country to spend Christmas with their daughter. It will be Mikas first Christmas with her Dad in 6 years.. she doesn't know about it yet and she is going to be soo happy and excited. So it promises to be a very love ly Christmas for us. Merry Christmas Nigel, to you, your friend and of course Molly.
are there alot of blokes named "Bill" over there? i thought that was more of an american thing! haha
My friend’s grandad is called Bill. He’s 98 and we were talking about him earlier. I think it must have stuck in my mind. Lots of Bills over here. 😁
@@primalengland Thats Fantastic to hear! No doubt he was on your mind while recording :) My fathers name is William, he goes by Bill
I want Nigel's 3rd law of bullshit printed on a t shirt. That'd make a nice Christmas gift to me. 😉
@@rough-hewnhomestead5737 I missed a trick there. 😁
You have nothing to apologize about ❤ You have a heart of gold and you care deeply about others and the things you love 🥰
What ever you do and how ever you do it Nigel I sincerely hope it’s a good one , give Molly a treat from me 💕🙏
Our kids request cheese fondue🫕 every year on Cristmas Eve after church ! Not even an expensive homemade, but the cheap baggies from the supermarket! Best thing is sitting together and having a good time! Board games after that! Presents will be practical, too! Instead of an expensive LEGO set our son asked for some inexpensive IKEA to organize his computer stuff! Puzzling THAT together should be just as satisfying and much fun!😂 And the daughter needs a new sensibly-priced mobile, but wants us to get it next year when they get cheaper!🎉 Boxing Day tradition is pasta and a jar of tomato sauce, because - when they were little - the kids wanted us to play with them and their new games! Brother in law and his wife will only be with us on the third day of Christmas - that's when the good food is served! But I already pre-cooked that by and by during Advent, it is easily reheatable deer goulash, so no stress, good talks and a glass of wine!🍷 It is insane, what people carry home, only because of this one day! All these expensive little packets of special sauce, of ready-made fancy meals, of ready-made exclusive desserts! And then it's a mountain of packaging in the bin and a bit of soggy salmon en croute, a runny sauce, and a dried up chocolate mousse! All washed down with expensive wines that no one really likes and sweet champagne that leaves us with a headache! You are doing it right! Keep it simple! Have a merrily relaxed Christmas 🌬️🐕🤗🌠🔔🎄🍷🌛✨ Peace and Love to You All out there🌈🌠🔔💝 🪷
