Hello from California. Thanks again for sharing some of your bits of wisdom. Fully agree with you to step back and don't let this insame world make demands on your life. Consider the philosophy of "quality time remaining" (QTR). Wishing you good health.
I should be listed at the happiness poverty level because I give so many smiles away. You'd be surprised at how many are just waiting for a tiny gesture of kindness.
Thanks Nigel. I fully agree with your comments and thoughts. News gives me fear so I limit my time to listen, then I turn it off. I am amazed with so many people that are angry, depressed, critical of other people. We are loosing the joys of life and everything that comes with it.
@@marylynch951 I haven’t had a tv since about 2005, just before I moved on my boat. I haven’t got the attention span to sit motionless in front of a screen anymore. My mum knows I don’t have a tv, but still asks. ‘Did you watch……?’ Bless her.
I'm just out now watching the sun come up ahe glisten over the snow and ice. Looks like this week will grace us with some dry and clear mornings. The sun light directly in my eyes does wonders for my mental health
I agree. We’ve just come back from our morning walk. There were patches of blue sky that always looks brighter and bluer when contrasted with the snow. It snowed heavily while we were out, but that just added to the magic.
'Alan Watts Blues' a beautiful Van Morrison song from 1987 fits this video perfectly....."The air is sweet and fresh in the countryside well it won't be long before I get back here again" give it a listen 😊
Oh! I have. I’m a lifelong Van the Man fan. At the end of my marriage, when I was leaving for the last time I swung my little daughter round the kitchen to this. I can remember it like yesterday, and now she’s nearly 40.
That’s true. I believe very little of what I read, and treat all politicians and policy makers with equal contempt, but if I keep myself abreast of opinions, I have the ‘facts’ 🤪 to debate, which is an annoying habit of mine.
Havnt had a TV for 25 years Havnt had a radio on for 4 years Havnt bought a newspaper for 40 years. And although I have a smart phone I bypass most of the bullshit spewed out by the filth in the ivory towers. Isn’t that wonderful. Love and blessings to all the free loving people worldwide 🙏😀
You're so right Nigel. I love living where I do and couldn't imagine wanting to live anywhere else - in spite of the difficulties. I'm happy that you and Molly were able to get out and enjoy the snow. It looks beautiful.
Nothing in the news beats a walk in the countryside or warrants putting off a walk in the countryside in place of news. You really hit the nail on the head in this video. I haven't watched a lick of news since early Nov and my peace of mind is all the better for it. I'm never going back. It's full steam ahead on more of everything that brings me joy for the rest of my life. Peace and love.
I think I could attain perfect peace but for my habit of following the news. I think there’s a little of the masochist in me. I seem to like getting irked by identifying the bias in news reports. It’s almost like a hobby. 😊
My mother is homebound for the most part and has been consumed by what has been fed to her through the television. She makes excuses to stay inside and isolate herself. I visit twice a week minimum. It becomes a challenge as she likes to sprinkle negativity at every opportunity in the conversation. I do not have a television. But I do stay up to date with current affairs, but I am open to different points of view and am willing to do my own research. It is sad that people cannot and will not think for themselves. Being in nature allows us to contemplate things as they bounce around in our heads and find its own meaning and order. Quite contemplation, not demanding compliance.
Really surprised given everything else you do that you haven't managed to give up the news?! I'm down to a couple times a month just so I'm not totally out of the loop. Take care you don't slip and fall in that snow, happens to the best of us, i know from experience. Peace and love to you and Molly❣🕊
Thing is, I don’t want to give up the news, really. I don’t watch tv and rarely listen to the radio. I have three news apps on my phone. I browse them all, treat it all like it’s utter tosh, and try to reach a fragment of credibility. I love politics, both English and US. It’s more of a hobby, and I get to keep vaguely abreast of who’s bombing who, but not necessarily why.

I’m slowly retiring this year and have been for a lovely walk in the sludge this afternoon around Jumbles Reservoir in Bolton ❤ lovely not to see too many people
I upgraded my 'health' wristwatch over Christmas as it was a special deal (and still a fairly cheap one) and now it allegedly measures stress levels. My lowest stress is when I'm asleep. My next lowest is when I am playing piano and/or composing. My highest stress so far is when I am foolish enough to read the c**p on social media or watch the news at rich people sticking their noses in where they're not wanted or needed. I've only been on a couple of decent walks since the new year began due to the frozen conditions, but I will be getting more into it again in the coming weeks. As if I didn't already know, taking in c**p from elsewhere is bad for your health. :)
Yes, I can feel my stress levels rise as I take in all the negativity. I remember years ago they always ended a news programme with a feelgood story about a kitten or puppy or such. We should do that again, if there are any good stories about kittens or puppies.
Walks in the country brings you back to the basics of life. Nature, whether we are hunters or gatherers. You forget about technology, the news, the people. Tune into the nature of the earth, the plants, trees, sky, birds, and possibly small animals, not hibernating. Be as one with your God, with your thoughts. Fresh air, the breeze, the temperature. The silence. Our brains need this. Peace & ❤ to you and Molly. Sweet girl! 💖🫂
Here in Kentucky, we’ve been homebound for two days now, due to a severe snow and ice storm. So, I’m watching a few of my favorite TH-camrs. You’re my favorite of them all ✌️❤️
We have over a foot of snow here and it’s almost impossible to walk on the pavements. I’m having to resort to walking on my treadmill but it doesn’t come close to being out in nature xxx
Greetings Nigel. Still no snow in Edinburgh so I'm enjoying your snow instead! I watch Mike Graham's Morning Glory news programme every morning but don't take it seriously and for the rest of the day I focus on manifesting the world I want. Like you I'm kept sane by my daily walks along the Waters of Leith. Thank you Nigel, you're building a community of positive people!!
I also watch and listen to Mike Graham. I like his adversarial attitude with people he’s interviewing. I find Julia Hartley- Brewer a little too cock sure. Mike and Kevin O’Sullivan are my go to. ❤️
Good morning to you and Molly, Nigel!! So glad to see you out and about in the snowy countryside. Here in SE Texas, we were down to freezing last night, 40's in the daytime, for a few days. My pack and I are hunkered down inside staying warm. Thanks for all you do. We really appreciate your wise words and musings. Have a great week!!!
Hi Nigel. Hope you’re keeping safe and warm in this cold snap we’re experiencing here in the NW. I can’t listen to the news much anymore. It seems to either wind me up or depress me. A while ago, there used to be a news channel that would only have good news on it. I think we need it to come back!!
I’ve always followed news outlets. That’s not to say I believe any of it. There are certain newspaper and online media outlets that I may read, but just because I find them amusingly biased. I don’t have a television and only listen to a little radio while I make my morning coffee, mainly for the weather. It’s just like another hobby, like knitting or playing music or reading. Just something else to fill the day. I’m also a right bugger for debating. It drives my friends mad sometimes, and I need to have the right facts for that bit of fun. I remember years ago when they always finished the news with a kitten or puppy story. They should bring that back. 😊
I came to the realisation some time ago that nothing I did, said, or thought made any difference to politics, crime, terrorism, religion, other peoples beliefs, etc. etc. and I opted out. The news is, as you say, white noise - so best avoided. Since I opted out I have a calmer mind and a much more peaceful life. I know this approach has been described as behaving like an ostrich, but I only have the one life and fretting about UK politics, Trump, Musk, Putin isn't going to do me any good. Cheers and Happy New Year! 👍🏼
I’ve always had a need to consume news, but it’s more of a hobby. I believe very little of what I read, but enjoy exploring it to glean truth, of which there is little. It’s all just political opinion. I love to debate. I get that off my dad. It drives my friends mad. They think I have lots of knowledge, when in fact, they just have no way of proving me wrong.
Greetings from Texas Dear Nigel! How vibrant and colorful are you and your philosophy ❤️ Happiest and Healthiest of New Years to both you and Little Molly
Temperatures rose from 0 to 10 degrees! No more lovely snow! Buah! 🌧️ I didn't want to -I had to !!! - go out and buy some fresh bread, milk, charcuterie and veggies! The main street was stuck with cars, so I was the queen on my bike in the bike lane! 😁 And that air was FRESH!💨🚴🏼♀️🌧️ That black dog lifted his eyelid and then commenced sleeping in his dusty corner! Of course, lovely Molly should always be treated with the adoration and attention that's her due!🐕🤗 Peace and Love to You All out there!🌈💝 🪷
What else can you do with this weather🤷🏼♀️? I throw out all things Christmassy except the tree - kids want it - decorate white and glass and nature - and enjoy getting back to schedule after these "rot days"!!! Days are getting brighter fast, bewildering me every year! Yes, I know about the movement of the stars - theoretically - but, isn't it a miracle every January, days getting brighter? 🐕🤗🌈💝🪷
It's funny, I was talking about the people who cause the angst today and said that they should all go to jail for life so we could just enjoy ourselves.
'Ow do me owd mucker! I haven't a clue what's going on in the world, unless there's a post on FB about some tragedy or other. Very rarely, I do wonder if I'm missing something I really ought to know about, and Google "News". But after a brief scroll of the headlines, I stop and go no further. I'm so glad the snow has buggered off, but reckon it'll be back. I've felt an uneasy anxiety this last few nights... about nothing in particular, but the weather hasn't helped. I long for Spring! 🌼 The recent loss of my beautiful black dog has brought on a different kind of black dog, and I wish that would bugger off too! But I have my new furry friend for cuddles, and when I feel the anxiety creeping up on me, I make the room really cosy, watch feel-good channels on TH-cam and sip camomile tea before bed. Then all's right with my little world come morning. 😊
Politicians and Religious people don't have my best interests at heart so I don't have theirs. My friend told me he is about to get evicted and he is struggling to find a place to move to. I got on so well with his dog and if she moves away I'll be heartbroken so I am trying to see if I can help in any way. We've not had bad weather here in this part of Ireland yet but it will come 🙂🇮🇪
I was just skimming through TH-cam and came across a political commentator who was telling me what opinions I had. That’s a fabulous trick. Politics and religion is mired in charlatans. Amusingly useful idiots.
Thank you, interesting video. I’m in the UK and it’s crazy here but I try and limit what I listen to. I don’t listen to the mainstream media anymore because they are just a puppet for the government and we’ve all seen what the government are doing in the UK . I listen to independent journalist if I choose to some days I don’t. I love nature too, and it’s a great escape for me but when I go home, I do my art or I read. I light a candle. I watch a good film. I don’t watch mainstream TV anymore. It definitely helps but like anything that you feel like you’re addicted to you need to go through a withdrawal period it’s exactly the same for consuming media. I wouldn’t worry about a nuclear bomb coming if one’s on its way you won’t know much about it so make your last moment as blissful as possible and enjoy it in nature because none of us would survive one of those bombs. However, I’m very doubtful that will happen. We’re just going through a very dysfunctional time and sometimes these times have to happen in order to wake some people up. 🙏
I haven’t had a tv since about 2005. I find it difficult now to sit through anything for longer than a few minutes. I have a couple of apps on my phone, but get most of my news from independent journalists. There are decent ones out there if you look. I like Andre Walker. Mainly because he comes from the same town as me, and his dad goes in the same pubs I went in. That will probably tell you which way I lean. I avoid hyperbole. That is just exhausting.
I completely relate to this video. I think I spent 2024 ranting and raving about the 'news'.... that I felt I had to be aware of. Not this year though, I'll keep one eye on it but that constant feed of negativity isn't healthy. Have you seen 'Ramble Family' here on TH-cam Nigel. Wonderful channel and not a single Laura Ashley dress in sight 😉
Ah, 'kin great, as usual. This a.m. I went to collect my meds😅 and there was a young girl doing maths really quickly with her mam. Couldn't help it coz us Taff's butt in.. so I said, 'I got eleven fingers' and she looked at me, so I counted down on one hand, 10, 9 ,8, 7, 6. then said, add 5 makes 11. Some of the adults there got confused, please, nowt about inbreds! Dunno where I'm going with this..anyways, her mam laughed n explained the trick. In the end it was much fun. Jesus on rollerblades, was it worth me telling you this?! Heyho, Hwyl nawr, Taffy Nige 🤘 ✌️
Like patriotism - people use religion, politics, patriotism to their own ends. Most of the time is a mask for bigotry, intolerance and ignorance. I, like you, consume news but it drives me bonkers when I see some of the things that are happening right now. I get so frustrated that people behaving a certain way - trying to see things from their view, parking any feeling of superiority to say my way better than theirs, but not being able to a lot of the time. And I’m definitely not saying I am superior - I just try to treat all people fairly and equally. But sometimes I just feel like giving up 😢
News consumes me, especially on social media. It is like being sat in the cinema alongside Winston Smith but two minutes becomes an hour, an hour a whole day and hate should never be a permanent state of being. So, I stopped accessing the news in early 2024 - an excellent decision. But, what we value needs protecting and the first step is working those values out, away from the noisy entertainment of the political circus.
I understand wanting to stay informed, I truly do. But these days it's ALL a poorly-orchestrated, B-rated movie. There are no more "sides" (if there ever were to begin with). The great outdoors, however, is REAL--very real. That's why they try so hard to keep you away from it. Enjoy your best country in the world, my friend. 🧡
I just have three news apps on my phone that I read as I have my morning coffee. They are all so different and I like trying to sort the wheat from the chaff. Not always possible. 😊❤️
Dear Nigel I take on board most of watch you say but I have a problem. Although I walk by the River Dee every day and I’m a vegan in enjoying every meal knowing I’m not hurting an animal, I still still turn on the TV and depressed about the suffering in the world feeling I can do nothing about it.
And that is just as it should be. We can shut ourselves away from the ills of the world and plead ignorance, or we can live in the knowledge of what’s going on, and feel empathy. If you feel depressed it’s because you care. Life’s like that, isn’t it. It’s full of good and bad, and we need to empathise with those going through despair without wearing it like an albatross round our necks.
I absolutely love you, man. I discovered this channel just before Christmas and it's become one of the highlights of my week. I appreciate the honesty and the philosophizing and find it more than a little inspiring. I hope you and Molly stay warm and have a great week!

I love that you sound so positive. It’s contagious. ❤️😊🐕🦺🐾🪷🪷

It's funny, I was talking about the people who cause the angst today and said that they should all go to jail for life so we could just enjoy ourselves.
Your videos instantly make me feel calmer, and I agree with you 100%
Thank you Rebecca. I’m so happy to hear that.
Hi Nigel nice to see you out
God bless you and Molly ❤❤
Thank you Mary. ❤️❤️
The recent loss of my beautiful black dog has brought on a different kind of black dog, and I wish that would bugger off too!
But I have my new furry friend for cuddles, and when I feel the anxiety creeping up on me, I make the room really cosy, watch feel-good channels on TH-cam and sip camomile tea before bed.
Then all's right with my little world come morning. 😊
Someone should tell us when we’re young that life is going to be anything but easy, then at least we’d appreciate all the little breaks. ❤️
Oh boy just love you and your channel ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Marianna. ❤️❤️🐕🦺🐾
Keep warm 🥶🌬️ you an Molly
We certainly will. 😊❤️🐕🦺🐾
You are very inspirational. Thank you.
Thank you so much.
I don’t listen to the mainstream media anymore because they are just a puppet for the government and we’ve all seen what the government are doing in the UK
Ha! The Laura Ashley dress syndrome. I will certainly check them out. Thanks. 😊❤️
Enjoy your vlogs 🥹ty
Thank you. 😊
It was worth the telling, because now I know you have a wicked streak. 😁

But sometimes I just feel like giving up 😢
Sheila. Stay true to yourself. Nigel often says, "Yuuu Duuu Yuuu". lol
100%. A+.👍
News consumes me, especially on social media.
Yeah - I'm a news consumer too... but, I am weaning myself off the screen as I want (badly) to make some art!
Such a nice comment 😊
I’m sleepy
