The image at 4.49 is the best shot and i really like this one. A wall hanger.
Ah thanks!
I only took up photography last year with an old Pentax DSLR. I love nature and wildlife but really want to get into street photography. Your advice with a straightforward, no nonsense approach is the best I’ve seen. Thankyou so very much 🙂
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos. Welcome to the world of street photography - it’s great! 🙏🏻
@@timjamiesonphotos you’ve certainly given me the confidence to try it. I’m a very outgoing person who loves meeting new people, yet going amongst them with a camera makes me feel nervous oddly enough. You might have cured me of that!
I really enjoyed this video. I’ve always been a little hesitant with street photography but after watching your videos it’s given me a confidence boost.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. Hope you have a great time getting into street photography, it’s the best 📸
I don’t think you can buy anything made by Fujifilm new or used for cheaply.
lol, was that your only take away from the video? I recommend whinging at Fujifilm if it is 😂
Street Photography is like ANY other ART! It is 100% subjective. There is no "right" or "wrong" in it!
Calm down, of course this video is just my opinions
@@timjamiesonphotos sounds like you are the one who needs to calm down, skippy!~
It's something that I can relate to a lot. Thank you!!
Who says that those are great images?
In the video I said I’ve learned what it takes to make great images - I never say that mine are great, though I am happy with my work and they seem to resonate with a lot of people. This channel is all about helping others get into and improve at street photography from my perspective. I don’t care if you don’t like my pictures
@@timjamiesonphotos It doesnt need this phrase. "to make great images" equals i make great images. i havent complained about youre images just find this saying unneccessary.
You absolutely don't need 3 primes so close in focal. My suggestion for beginners is (in FF equivalent): 24 ( ultra wide for street is difficult to master, but amazing), 35 for snapshots in zone focusing and 85 for everything else. If just 2: 35 and 85.
That’s exactly what I say in the video
@@timjamiesonphotos wise guy
Excellent advice, confidence is a pretty difficult obstacle to overcome especially as our societies in some ways is getting more violent and photography is seen in a negative light.
Really helpful advice, thank you. Lots of inspiration and ideas.
I'm tired of these British ones...
Seems like you’re in the minority there judging by how many people have viewed, liked and commented on this video 😂
Hi Tim, beautiful photos, I liked the video! Can I ask the name of the structure that you can see at 2:50 where you took the photo of the Eiffel Tower?
Sacré-Coeur in Montmartre :)
Can you say what camera you use? It looks small and light. My pentax is heavy.
It’s the Fujifilm X-E4
Great videos.
Hi Tim, just been binge watching some of your videos as I'm getting bored with landscape photography. I'm in the UK where I'll be trying street out, what's the rules/guidance on photographing identifiable children and then dispalaying those images on social media? I always thought children were taboo in street photography.
Glad you’re enjoying my vids mate! Personally I want to document life on the street so if I don’t include children then that would mean missing out on documenting what the streets are really like. I never take photos in public with malicious intent, I just take photographs of things I find interesting and sometimes that includes kids. Legally in the uk you can photograph anyone or anything in a public place. It’s up to you what you think is appropriate or not. Check out Martin Parr’s work in the UK, often includes children and he’s a world renowned magnum photographer that makes excellent images
This is the first of your videos that I've seen, and it's great! I can relate to so much of this; I live in a small town and have taken the same photos of it over and over; time to look for more framing, reflections, and more! Thank you for the inspiration, and for showing your beautiful photos along the way!
great advices, most of all: 1. don't care about gear 2. enjoy what you are doing (have fun)
Beyond helpful - been at it the last 6 months and I was starting to hit a wall, no more!
So glad to hear it was helpful mate! Happy shooting 📸
- great video. Excellent information. & we are watching a Video. With *audio and sound* *This video is a moving picture* & (We see *what the photographer is doing* .....) And Then once we have seen the moving video - showing the scene We see a _still image_ of that *same moving scene* I like both the video and the still photographs. Because of the smartphone & *anyone and everyone* snaps a picture: Has _still photography_ *devalued* ? Thank you
The whole point of this kind of video is to help photographers see a scene and then see what photograph you can make from that scene which is dependent on your eye and how you see the world. 10 photographers could be in the same scene and take 10 different photographs. Anyone and everyone has access to a pen and paper, does that mean drawing is devalued? No, of course not. It’s not the availability of the tools it’s what you do with them. And the fact that so many people can have access to a camera now is a wonderful thing
@@timjamiesonphotos First time viewer. Your videos And photos are fantastic and helpful info. & It's 2024- Artificial intelligence has now advanced. Look at TH-cam. See the millions of artwork created by the average joe And Jane. Say a few words into the description And in seconds the computer creates a photo. Type a few texts and in seconds the computer creates an image. As for pen and paper - traditional drawing - *yes* .. *anyone can make wonderful handdrawn artwork* ... By *practicing* the five basic elements of drawing. (Repition is the key) Have fun.... Enjoy and share
Excellent video mate. Thank-you
My pleasure!
*Anyone and everyone* has a *smartphone* with an *incredible camera* . Anyone can snap a photo - look at the *amount of photos shared everyday* _One days_ digital social media website_ has same number of ALL the photos that were taken in the first One hundred years of birth of photography! I stick with drawing and sketching- more fun & enjoyable
Anyone and everyone has access to a pen and paper, does that mean everyone can make a masterpiece artwork? No. It’s not the availability of the tools it’s what you do with them.
Good advice Tim and keeping the points simple and concise really helps for someone like me who is relatively new to street photography and wanting to learn more to develop my skills and style.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great video. I got YT suggested this & watched. I'm a seasoned street tog and all your points are 100% spot on. BUT to fully realise their wisdom takes much experience
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed, thank you 🙌🏻
Some fantastic advice there mate thanks a lot
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it
Lovely photos. They look surprisingly sharp at f2 and at relatively high ISOs.
Thanks!
Inspirational and powerful advise, thanks for sharing.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed 🙏🏻
agreed and subbed
i challenge you for coming to russia's siberian side cities :) if you can make there you can make street photography everywhere :)
I’d love to photograph in Siberia
Loved this compilation! The chilled ambient music is perfect. Great job on the edits
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Loved this. Always fascinated with street photography in ex-Soviet states
Thank you! And yeah I absolutely loved it, really want to explore some more former Soviet countries
I had great fun shooting my XA2 around Gloucester and Cheltenham. The zone focusing is excellent, and the camera so quiet and unassuming.
Excellent tips on this video, I am guilty of taking 4 cameras on a day out it and hinders you so much. I have also learnt not to compare my work, and shoot what I like and develop my own style.
Thanks for this. If you were just starting out here in 2024, what camera would you get to cut your teeth on?
My pleasure! To be honest I’m not much of a gear guy, but I love the Fuji system, so would go with a Fuji personally :)
I just went on a trip abroad and in my spare time I wandered the streets of the city trying to get some photos. One thing stands out to me as a complete beginner: all the tourists wandering around with their Canon EOS cameras and big lenses. And I see all these street photography videos where many have small inconspicuous cameras, and I thought 'Aha! So that's why'...because whenever I point my large-ish 24-105 lens at someone, they notice immediately and turn away, but they guy next to me with his mobile phone goes completely un-noticed. It's like, they see the size of the lens and react to that even if the mobile phone next to me has the same resolution.
Yeah 100% the bigger the camera the more noticeable you are on the street and people are suspicious of it :)
I really like your videos, man! Voiceover is better than subtitles
That Cycle Thieves photo is outrageously good!
Thank you!
Wow. Finally a TH-camr giving good, straight to the point, no-nonsense advice. Kudos!!!
Yeah most are out to promote gear, the worst being clandestine about it, the best just putting it out front “sponsored by Sony, gear lent by Sony …” - too few of these direct ones, unfortunately!
I started my street photography journey early this year, and I've really been enjoying it! I personally use my 40mm (60mm as I have a crop sensor camera) the most. I find that the distance I am from my subject is very comfortable with a 60mm lens, and I love the images I get with it
To be honest: I was sceptical with the video title as I never heard about you before. But I have to say: Great video with very helpful tipps and amazing photography! Your photos have a depth, there is always a bigger idea but one can also get lost in the details.
Thank you!
I really want to start doing street photography more. Especially during the summer when events are slow for me. How often do you find people not liking the fact that you're taking photos of them in public? I think that's what I worry most about.
Great! I basically never have anyone care that I’ve taken a photo of them. But it takes a lot of practice and the right approach, will make a video about it soon!
What do you take file format RAW or JPG ?
RAW
@@timjamiesonphotos always raw ?
Awesome channel i just found
Thanks!
Such a valuable video!!! amazing knowledge
Glad you think so!
I feel like you and Joe Allam should co create something!
Loved the red dot moment 😂 Great advice 👍🏻
Haha 👌🏻🔴
Great video! Agree on everything outlined here. I've been at this game for 50+ years, and it never gets dull. But you forgot one or possibly two vital points, apart from making prints, get those prints up on a wall, and get them into a book. Prints don't have to be huge either. 10 x 8 or 10 x 12 is fine. Even smaller, as there are plenty of small frames for sale all the time in charity/thrift shops/stores. Just get pictures seen, and away from social media!
Totally agree. One of the best things we've done as a family is buy a Fujifilm Instax printer and a pinboard. It's now so easy to print shots out and pin them up to remind us all of what's been going on over the previous few weeks. When we run out of space, we start 'overwriting' the oldest photos by moving them elsewhere and newer memories take their place. They're not massive, the print quality is so-so, but just walking past them and seeing them again over and over for a few weeks is really great.
6 yrs is nothing. maybe learn to level the horizon level first
Why would I want to level the horizon
Thank you !!
