SCOTLAND v FIJI A BRUTALLY HONEST AND FAIR REVIEW
Spot on with the team rankings at the end. I still have confidence in the All Blacks improving back to their standards. Have a look at Riley Higgins for 12. Runs a good line at and is tough and aggressive.
I expected this result simply because Australia just isn't there yet. The hype after the England and Wales games was exaggerated. Yes, Australia has improved in 2024, but to be fair, England really should have put that game to bed early on. Wales is just poor at the moment. Along with England and Argentina, I believe that Scotland is arguably a top 5 side, so I just couldn't see how Australia was going to win this one.
Thanks to the referee who was so good, he also made this great match possible.
Roigard 9 DMac 10 Jordan 11 Caleb 12 Proctor 13 Ioane 14 Brodie 15 What do you think Mark ??
Autumn Nations Series great games, refs not so good lots of mistakes from to many officials World rugby we need clarification Saying nothing just makes it worse we want to know how and why these calls good or bad are made we need clarification on the rules when these confusing calls are made
I have a video coming up this week related to this topic that you might be interested in. Thank you for the comment
@@insiderugbywithmark anyone from world rugby making any comments
Hard to gauge that match. Aussies maybe don’t have strength in depth after their injuries and Scotland are a team that will exploit those weaknesses. Anyway, really looking forward to the Lions series.
The Wallabies plan for a clean sweep got Scotched. Well done to the Wallabies anyway for their improvements since the RWC. Scotland the brave are always feisty and competitive, no team can take them lightly.
Composure sums it up well I think and Scotland were certainly the more composed. They defended well and exploited the Aussie defence (which was poor) when those opportunities arose and got some good tries. Scotland will be real contenders in the 6N next year methinks. I can see Ireland exploiting those Aussie defensive weaknesses even more this Saturday and scoring quite a few tries and winning well. In saying that however, it would not surprise me at all if Joe Schmidt has a trick or two up his sleeve for this game. If there's one man who knows Irish rugby inside out it's him.
As an Ireland fan I would love to be playing the ABs this week. I think it was really bad planning to schedule a team as good as New Zealand first up without any match time together.
I totally agree with you, definitely be a different story if we were playing Nz this week
Yeah that would be nice but it's not an excuse, we just weren't good enough. Not only were we not good enough, we were woeful.
@Camcolito Not an excuse. New Zealand deserved their win totally. But I think it would definitely be a lot closer if Ireland had a bit more match time under the belt. New Zealand might still have won though but Ireland would definitely be better if they played them later in the series.
@@neilmontgomery3470 True I agree, just that we were well below expected level even without game time.
@@CamcolitoWe have been well below our best since 2015 the rebuild has taken much longer due to keeping Foster for another WC, Ireland on the other hand has had a great side for years now, be interesting to see how this Irish team goes when they rebuild and lose players like Aki etc

Bubble slightly deflated but we have already over achieved on this tour. One from four was my par for this tour. We are still in the hunt for a third win as unlikely that might be. Go Wallabies.
Try of the game was Finn Russell - involved most of the backs.
they're absolute class when they're in that flow state, and the depth is theree too!
It seems that the Southern Hemisphere teams came in battle hardened and bullish, but eventually started to fade in time, thats why we need a global timetable to give greater consistency
Make rugby a summer sport in the Northern hemisphere
End of our season, the games put money back into our unions for the following year, the World Cup is where we find out who's who.
C'est vrai! Le vrai vainqueur a été le rugby. Super match!
Thanks for the games analysis, Mark.
I think its madness , that we're calling that Prendegast clumsy tackle a red, there's so much anti irish rhetoric thesedays its sad, he went for the tackle , then was turning his body as another player had tackled the Fijan player from behind thus turning his back into the contact , miliseconds in terms of reaction, the Fijian was dipping and hit his shoulder to the chin, not head , if this is the case why did Moroni of Argentina not get a clear red the week before with a clear head on head to Crowley, but no , thats ok, actually the criticism was on Crowley for reactivately grabbing his face, ridiculous. A red card in rugby is a very serious incident guys not these clumsy or minor incidents, why did the Fijian not go off for a HIA? we have to stop calling for red cards, 20 mins off or not. It was a yellow, the expert officials said so, lets leave it at that. Otherwise rugby is just going to become a constant scandal of calls. Lovebthe channel mark , great place for honest chat.
NZ needs strong Australian teams to get them back to being dominate again. With the South African teams leaving the super rugby comps and being stuck with weak Australian sides, it is having a negative effect on our players.
The first 20 minutes of the Wales - Boks game showed a glimpse of what is to come when the Springboks reach their full potential. Once all the figuring out has been done by Rassie and the team has solidified and meshed, they will be hard to beat!
Really enjoyed the Autumn internationals as well as your commentary along the way. Rugby is in a very interesting space right now. ABs need to find a centre combination, but are trending positively. Ireland looking healthy and so are the French. Aus can call their tour a success but need a miracle for the Lions series. Boks have seemingly limitless depth, but I would like to see a more settled structure next year.
@zeuskaboose Thanks so much for the comment, great to have you along with us. My review on the Aussie game v Scotland is now up, you may enjoy that one.
It's not over yet. A rebuilding ireland vs a resurgent wallabies next weekend. The schmidt v farrell face off makes it a little more interesting...
@burncarlow BOOM there you go.
Comprehensive win for Ireland but Fiji were very poor so we can't judge where Ireland are after that game. The Australia game will tell us more and after watching the game in Murrayfield I reckon Ireland should win this one. Prendergast was indeed lucky to have just got yellow. He'll learn from that though. Other than that he played very well as did the other new lads which was great to see. Looking forward to seeing what team AF puts out against the Wallabies and who wears the 10 shirt. SA did more than enough in the first half to beat Wales and I think they just took the foot off the pedal at times in the second half. A comprehensive win was never in doubt. They are definitely top of the rugby tree now and will be for quite a while unlike Wales who are pretty much at rock bottom now. Not sure how or when they can turn things around. Tough times for Welsh supporters right now that's for sure. NZ looked a bit lacklustre in their game and maybe a bit tired after that France game? They still won though and never looked like losing. Razor will be happy with 3 from 4 particularly after beating England and Ireland. Credit to Italy though...they acquitted themselves well here considering what happened in the same fixture in the WC last year. But I agree with you AB's are still not quite firing on all cylinders yet although they seem to be on the right track. A very entertaining Autumn Series.
SA have 4 gold Nz have 3 gold Ireland have 0 gold So why Ireland been compared to 7 x rwc champions?
Don't be so sensitive! This is not the past lad, we're living in a new age of rugby be respectful
It seems the more gold you get the bigger the ghowl you become. Ireland are better off with none

Hi Mark, an interesting podcast, I enjoyed it. As an Irish fan I have to say I think it is a shame that so much focus has been on the Sam P incident, I do understand that it needed to be mentioned, most Irish pundits and fans are either saying it should have been a red or he was lucky. However, I would like to draw attention to Gus McCarthy, who I thought had an excellent debut! I’ve watched the game back and I think he was involved in most of the tries somewhere or other. He gave a really good and solid performances. Excited about him. Also Cormac Izuchukwu deserves a mention, he had a fairly quiet game but I am sure there is more to come from this young man. Thanks Mark.
@lizzyhanahoe4197 Thanks so much for the comment. I full understand re Sam P is concerned. Same was said about Sam Cane for NZ at last years RWC Final, thats all every one talked about, not how close NZ got to winning. Gus McCarthy was very, very impressive and you can be assured I will be talking about him in the Preview Show to next weekends game.
@@insiderugbywithmark NZ wouldn't have been in the final at all if it wasn't for Sam Cane in my opinion, his performance in the quarter was superhuman.

Well summed up Mark! I think Razor has a lot of thinking to do over the summer as the ABs were very scrappy against Italy.Rassie on the other hand has expanded his selections & Bok rugby is in a very healthy state.Let's see how the Wallabies fare against Ireland as Joe Schmidt knows his former team's strength & weaknesses very well!
Thanks so much for the comment, appreciate it.
Razor letting his team make a political statement during the haka and after the game shows poor judgement.
@@KewKew-do3kq Calling for the unity of ALL people in our country is a good thing imo.
Are the Boks losing their reputation as dirty players?
AB need to find effective 12 & 13. They are mediocre at best. Will Richie make any difference? Totally agree with you on the assessment. Boks are well ahead of everyone else again. Congratulations. French - phenomenal team England - last game was a game of beauty Ireland - down a bit Pumas and Wallabies - up and down Italians- watch out Looking forward to 2025 season
We have ample midfielders who are performing and I say this on behalf of all fans, we are not the coach or the selectors but even a blind man can see that Reiko is not an international centre, as for Richie, he can't come back soon enough just to keep the current 10s on their toes and he should offer a fresher, more direct approach to the ABs game plan, as far as where we are at globally, the Boks and the French are in a league of their own atm followed by us and the Irish, Australia, England, Argentina, Italy, Scotland....
Way off with your analysis, Boks Irish France then new Zealand, just because you caught us cold doesn't mean anything, we win win if your were playing us this week kid@@Spencer-z6k
@@MrJonnyd81 I'd even rate Pumas ahead of us
I agree with the ranking but in truth SA was a combo side with a unfamiliar front row starting and a few experiments made with debuts and such. I still think SA takes the honor for the year overall with 52 players being rotated while maintaining a high win percentage. Ominous indeed because one feels that if any other side did that they would’ve had a major dip in performances. First year with a new coaching setup they are looking like building two sides who can compete with the top sides. Rassie doing Rassie things … either a village idiot or certified genius. We have to give him the benefit of the doubt though
Whales (not Wales) against minnows
Thanks Mark. Great analysis as always. I thought Prendergast escaped the red only because of his slender frame and age. If he had the physique of some of the Fijians or Bundi Aki, I think he would have gone for sure. ABs didn't have a great performance at all but I also think Italy to their credit provided much more of a fight than Wales or Fiji. I only wish we had played the ABs last and not first out of the blocks.
Bollocks, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, Pendergast is a skinny white boy but the shoulder still came into contact with the other guys head, if Pendergast was an 18 st prop forward things would've been different....
@@Spencer-z6kand your point is? Oh I understand now , no risk of danger, thanks for confirming the right choice then 😂
@@MorrisdeSaucer not from a skinny white boy, no danger...
@@Spencer-z6k That's exactly what OP said 😂. Read, then post, instead of the other way around.
If I remember correctly, the reason the ref passed on to the captains for Prendergast's yellow not being upgrading was it was not a high degree of danger. BO'D on commentary said that that mitigation should not have been applied because of the nature of the "tackle", i.e. it was always foul play with a no arms shoulder directly to the head. Can someone clarify what the law actually says about mitigation can and cannot be applicable? Edit: I've dug out the Law Application Guidelines from World Rugby. During the off-field review, the following factors are considered to estalish the degree of danger: • Direct vs indirect contact • High force vs low force • Dynamic v passive. Keywords to think about that lead to yellow (low danger) or red (high danger) are: Yellow: Indirect contact • Low force • Low speed • No leading head / shoulder / forearm / swinging arm. Red: Direct contact • Lack of control • High speed • Dynamic • Leading head / shoulder / elbow / forearm • Swinging arm • Reckless • Intentional or an always-illegal act. So the problem boils down to this: by my reckoning, at least 3 if not 4 of the criteria for red apply to this incident. Possibly one (low force) might apply to indicate yellow. So when you have some criteria pointing towards red and one towards yellow, which take precedence? As clear as mud. BTW, I didn't bother copying over the wording about mitigation, as the guidance is crystal clear that mitigation does not apply to intentional or alway-illegal acts of play, and even if they were applied, none were relevant to this incident. Low danger of danger is not defined as part of the mitigating factors; its part of the decision making defined above. The mitigating factors are only used (except in the case of intentional or always-illegal acts) once the high-danger threshold is judged to have been met.
Good stuff
Thank you
👏👏👏
On other comment sections, Irish supporters mostly defend Pendergast's actions. I thought that it was deliberate and cynical. He looked at the guy before leading with his shoulder into the head. Not in the spirit of the game.
Agree with you 100%! If a team like the Boks do it, we would have seen a red card. We all just want consistent refereeing for all concerned.
That's just not true. Most commentators said that he was very lucky to get away with a yellow, which he was. Sam was stupid, probably pumped up a bit too much on his starting debut. However, he ran the attack very well and he provides a different dynamic than our other tens.. He is only 21 and has much to learn including making stupid mistakes but I think his potential is undeniable.
Have to say, it was a red and I'm an Irish fan. Shoulder to chin is exactly what we are looking to stop for the players safety. I was calling for a red when Antonio did it to Herring in the six nations two years ago against Ireland so the above poster is right, consistency is all we want.
It looked pretty ropey to me. He’s a lucky boy. If I remember correctly I think he’d just been hit fairly hard in a (fair) Fijian tackle and wanted to come back and make his mark. It was pretty naive stuff and hopefully we won’t see that again.
I think the decision that it didn’t have a high degree of danger, there was a very late tackle on Casey also another shoulder only tackle but nothing done about them , the one on Casey did have a high degree of danger. If this is a red card then we are going to see so many red cards in the future. I thought yellow was fair.
If RAZOR DONT CHANGE , STICK WITH HAVILLI AND BARRETTES WE WILL AGAIN 2025 BE DISSAPPOINTED

For us, every match against the All Blacks is a final. You help us surpass ourselves... Thanks to this great Haka team. You will forever be in our hearts...
Le rugby des blacks ❤❤❤❤❤
Ivery great video... About Ramos, it's true he's not a former 10, he is an excellent 15. he has a very great kick and as usual, he has a very great vision of the game because of his high abilities in 15. A very great 15 can do the more than decent job in 10, especially in a french side.. .because 15 are more unpredictable than 10... then it''s a plus for the French. It's harder for a 10 to play as 15. Both NZ and France will be teams to count with in the following years. The french young team is accumulating caps and experience. also, the reserve of players that France has is simply amazing, i have never seen France with so much numbers of great and young players and this, in every lines or position. Even when Dupont is not here, the other french N° 9 would make the choice hard in other nations.

because of the racist chants against the French by the Argentinian football team, I think that the French in all disciplines have an extra motivation, it is of course not the fault of the rugby players, but today in France, playing against Argentina is something very special
I would add that Matthieu Jalibert no longer plays for the French team precisely because of comments deemed racist.
