@subhuman119 I know I keep saying it, but once again, what if he has a game threatening injury. Thanks to Razor, we have no cover due to his unwillingness to start new players and his perseverance with Dmac as a run on 10, which he will never be.
I rate Marcus Smith the best fly half in the world, better than the sainted Mo’unga, with DuPont second, when he plays 10. Has anyone heard about Mo’unga’s performance overseas? Has he got the hunger? Plummer never got a real chance to prove his talent with the ABs, unlike other players I could name who were selected but haven’t measured up.
The next world cup is a long way off and I am sure the team will look a lot different by then. The next Super rugby series is going to be very telling and I am sure players in key areas will show their hand. Particularly interested in what Jamie Joseph will do with the Highlanders, some great players there. Plummer leaving is a probably not unexpected, I liked his style of play and his huge boot.
Amusing, all the comments saying that the Blues and potentially the All Blacks are going to miss him at #10. Keep in mind, Plummer isn't a natural 10, but a natural midfielder. He only played 10 for the Blues, because Perofeta was injured and is also a far better 10 than Harry Plummer. That being said, you can't begrudge him for wanting to go overseas to play, when back here in NZ there are so many people ahead of him for the black jersey.
So does that mean Lam isn't one of the best 12's because he was a wing, Sititi not the best 6 because he was an 8. Plummer was very good at 10 and deserved the chance. Now we have lost him. Razor and his selectors see Perofetta, it seems, only as a 15. Not even worthy of playing against Fiji, Japan, and I doubt they will play him there against Italy. Razor is a good coach, but as we have seen, not the best at selecting. Our new players; Ratima, because TJ got injured, Sititi, because Blackadder got injured, Lakai, because Cane, Papali'i, Jacobson and Blackadder got injured. Seems like the new guys need to have someone injured to get a game.
There's possibly a little bit reading the tea leaves on Plummer's part here. how much game time will he get with the blues in 2025 with beauden Barrett back? Jacomb from Taranaki looks excellent. He'll be playing for the chiefs, Love obviously has been outstanding, and there's the prospect of Mo'unga returning which is possible/probable (not for 2025). Then there's the hype around players like Rivez Reihana, which hasn't materialized on field yet. I think Plummer just isn't getting a fair shake for his performances, recognises that he's unlikely to, so why not get out there and see the world. Definitely a loss for NZ rugby, but if the option is highlanders, Australia or top 14, why not put yourself in the biggest market and see if the big money comes. All the best to him. Hope he goes well
