Yeah about 10% of French population watched the game, that should tell you whether that game mattered for the French. I loved how the French fixed their problems in second period. I previously thought that LBB was disappearing in big games but no longer, he was brilliant. They were disappointed by their 2023 world cup and their 2024 6 nations performance and I think they are gonna have big ambition for 6 nations 2025. They will go play in Ireland and England and I think those games could really be amazing.

Frenchy here , the French team were up for this and it started before the game - an acapella national anthem sung by 80000 , the light show and respect for the Haka. The ABs won the battle for the first half but DIDNT kill off the game. And the French bench and backs proved the difference. Meafu was a one man wrecking crew on offense and defense. Ramos inspired and a Dupont whose generalship in the second half broke the ABs resolve. And this was without Penaud , his replacement and some forced changes going into last 20. Hooker playing open side flanker, Dupont playing at 10. And losing the prop after 9 minutes . 2027 is shaping up to be a 3 man race - between South Africa , ABs and France. The Irish have (for the moment) dropped off and their supply line drying up , England need to decide what type of Rugby they want to play and the others having holes in their 15. Argentina, possibly being the dark horse with a rejuvenated Australia under Schmidt.
Easily the best game of Rugby of ‘24 !

Congratulations to France a team that continues to have our number and more consistent in their play. I really like that young winger of theirs and looking forward to his development and Vive le France that continue to make moments spectacular epcecially the build up anthems, and the lighting and French Fans spectacular during the haka! WOW! These games will always be "who turns up in the day". I agree Mark the midfield, especially 12, needs addressing and I see many benefits for Reiko returning to the wing. Liked Ardie back on the side and the loose forward trio being more open and on the ball at the breakdowns and not so tight. Will Jordan made a couple of errors especially the missed pass to Clarke, Ardie on the inside, that had him in the air and ineffective. More good things to come from it like cohesion, and more clinical, I feel Razor is learning more about timing reserves and wish he shifted Damon to first receiver, Tamaiti is turning into a Beast. Lastly, Scott may need to rethink times to keep pressure on at times for the high risk and high reward as we do not have a good return rate after half-way kick-offs after a penalty. Roigard has confidence, aggression, snappy-pass from the base, and when its congested goes in with urgency to get it and distribute quickly.

What a great game and what a spectacular show beforehand. Two great teams going hammer and tongs at each other.
Would like to know your thoughts Mark on whether the AB's should have kicked for touch near the end instead of kicking for goal. I was scratching my head on that one.

It's easy to say, after the game, that AB's should have chosen the lineout instead of the penalty kick. But at this moment, it was a difficult decision to take, since the physical domination of the AB's was no more as blatant as during the first half of the game.

I was very much impressed by the AB backrow's speed and intensity, and by Cam Roigard all-round play. Great wrap once again. Also enjoyed the game and was really happy with NZ performance despite the loss. And yes, 12 and 13 remains NZs issues. Has been since 2016. Possibly fainganuku returning from Toulon will provide some oomph, but there's plenty of talent in nz who deserve a shot. I've been on about giving Reece more opportunities, but must admit he's been exposed a lot this season.

Outstanding pre match with the ligthts, the a cappella Marseillaise by the whole stadium and the Haka in the middle of the solent crowd.
France vs New Zealand games are often among the greatest Rugby can produce. And this one is definitely one if the best. Best game of the week-end for sure, probably the best of the whole autumn series.
The result could really have been the other way. The AB may wonder how they have lost it being so dominant and powerful all along. The French were clinical transforming lead in gold thanks to a huge sometimes desperado-like defence, Ramos vista and Bielle-Biarrey roadrunner speed.
Maybe after 2 early in the games easy tries the AB were too confident. But the French regrouped, rallied and scored a beautiful try by Buros for his debut after a big work by their forwards. The end of the game was a showdown between Ramos and MacKenzie. In my opinion, the turning point at the end was the replacement of Roigard who was excellent so far. His successor making 2 or 3 blunders in a row.
The last 5 minutes the French at last were successful maintaining the AB in their own half harassing the ball carrier, avoiding to be penalized or a drop goal threat. It reminded me the end of the WC quarter in 2007, a sad date for NZ.
Again a great 2024 game, congrats to both teams and your fine and balanced comments.
The major difference with the France-South Africa RWC game lost by 1 point you are mentioning is that there was not so blatant referring mistakes last Saturday.
Next June in NZ I am sure the AB will be able to reverse the outcome. The French team will be very different as the major players will stay in France busy with the last phases of the Top14championship.

Yes, congratulations France from this Kiwi, as you said Mark, rugby was the winner, what a fantastic advertisement for the game played at a superb level. And 8 million viewers! The next WC is going to be huge! As for the last opportunity in the game for the ABs why take 3 points at the death? The ABs of previous generations would have taken the lineout (and the risk) and gone for a try. We’ll never know now and that’s rugby.
As for the French, definitely number 2 , and like South Africa, have tremendous depth. They say this wasn’t even their best possible team because of injuries etc . I don’t think the ABs who weren’t available would have made a difference. But the ABs are also building and the coaches would have learned a lot from the tour.
Mark, you are bang on regarding our centres. All three big games showed our weakness there. If Reiko can’t pass, put him on the wing! Jordie takes it to the line but is often one out and where’s Reiko? They just don’t seem to work as a pairing.
I just hope that France bring their A team to NZ, but they probably won’t because of the demands of their domestic competition, more’s the pity because we would get a better idea of how the ABs are developing.

Hopefully the B side that will be sent this summer would be highly competitive. In the past FRA B sides were rubish with disinterested players, Since the Galhié Era they are used as development team for the Future, seriously coached. See The Australian tour a few years ago when we were close to win the series. See this summer tour in Argentina when our B/C side demolished the Argies in the first match (we lost the second partly because of the bad events that shook the team).

Sorry, 15 Perofetta, 14 Jordan. I think Razor made a mistake with Reece. Because he only chose 3 wings and 3 fullbacks, allowing for Jordan as cover, we were exposed. Razor also should have been using the new players off the bench, throughout the year, so they had experience and could drop in if someone lost form or was injured. It was too late to put in a new center or 12 with no-one having played there. Taking Havilli also cost us since he showed he just wasn't up to it. Plenty of midfielders he could have chosen. Bailey Sullivan, Riley Higgins, A J Lam. Lam is a straight swap for ALB. Plays wing, centre, and 12. Same with Bailey Sullivan.

French Here, if you'd put Ioane back on the wing (and i agree Ioane and Clarke would be a tremendeous pair) who would be the option at 13?
I do think both sides have got a lot of positives out of this game. From 1 to 8 NZ have a very impressive pack. NZ's scrum must be one of the best in the World Right now alongside RSA.
For us Buros and Boudehent are the good surprises. We need a solid 15 (specially under high balls) as a replacement for Ramos. Jaminet being definitely out of the Blue Jersey (and deservedly so) and Barré not quite the real deal yet.
Anyway, Great games as usual with those 2 teams, Huge respect as ever for the AB's. Cheers!

Was a great game to watch, was to many officials which doesn't help our game management we work hard to play at pace and penalties give our opponents the rest that keeps them in the game. Top 5 teams the margins are so fine, and we not far off winning these close games. We missed Sam cane's experience I think we should of gone for the corner more. I think Jordys our best 12 but we need a change at 13, and Sevu not up to test level anymore. Our pack will be the best in the world soon, power scrum, excellent lineout, and goaline D is the best. We do have Moanga, Frizell, and Fianuku coming back which will help Lester being a good option at 13. I like what Razors trying to do if we can convert it to points more often we will bury teams with scoreboard pressure. 2025 will be our year. Thanks Mark

Looking back at the replay, the ABs did get back into the French half after the last penalty made it 30-29. So the ABs had a chance to slow the game down and go through some phases within kicking distance, but they instead went for the miracle play and BB stuffed it up by delaying his pass to Reiko which gave the defence time toget across and force a fumble from Reiko. If BB had passed straight away the ABs would have had a 3 on 2 down the right wing. Best option would have been to slow it down and set up a ruck to get closer to the posts.

Ivery great video... About Ramos, it's true he's not a former 10, he is an excellent 15. he has a very great kick and as usual, he has a very great vision of the game because of his high abilities in 15. A very great 15 can do the more than decent job in 10, especially in a french side.. .because 15 are more unpredictable than 10... then it''s a plus for the French. It's harder for a 10 to play as 15. Both NZ and France will be teams to count with in the following years. The french young team is accumulating caps and experience. also, the reserve of players that France has is simply amazing, i have never seen France with so much numbers of great and young players and this, in every lines or position. Even when Dupont is not here, the other french N° 9 would make the choice hard in other nations.

Was Reece carrying an injury? His defensive lapses and lack of pace led to a couple of French scores. Otherwise a good effort. Great summary of the game Mark. Agree with you about the ABs 12 & 13. They are just not creating the opportunities for the wingers. I go back to the centre pairing of Nonu and Smith. They were great defensively and they could either break the opposition's defence and score tries themselves or they create opportunities for the winger to score. How is it that Razor is not seeing that Jodie and Ioane are the weakest link in the ABs backline? Or is it the case that there are no contenders to replace them? I for one think that Proctor will do a better job than Ioane at 13 but he has not been given a fair go by Razor in my humble opinion. Is it because Proctor can only play in one position (centre) whereas Ioane plays centre and wing?

Sevu Reece is terrible defensively so is ALB he doesnt do too much do any thing and we need to get Cortez to speed up the game and make him just as effective as Cam
In a game where one of our top wingers is injured
We can get Will Jordan to the wing the other wing can be covered Rieko
We need to get a Ruben Love to full back have and see just how he plays at the 15 role A back 3 of Rben Love at 15 ( Will Jordan, Mark Telea, Clarke, Rieko any 2 of these names)
    Damien/Beaudy at 10/22

    22. Quinn Tupea
    23.  Damian McKenzie (60)
In this Ruben comes off for D Mac Beaudy falls to Full Back or comes off. Sevu Reece and Anton Cant keep playing for the senior squad. We field 2 great 10s in the last 25 along with a refreshed front line from the bench. D Mac as a line breaker, Beaudy as game controller, Cam as a pace setter, Quinn as a steady 12/13 . Will Jordan as our set off wheels we can unleash with a wide pass. Ruben while his on can offer good defensive work and offensive work.

Too bad, a win here would’ve been the making of Razor’s AB’s as worlds best again - have to wait till next year now!
If we beat Italy, it’s an ordinary season win/loss for me but the growth has been really good, some real X factor talents and a lot more growth next year i expect and it was a really tough ask itinerary.
France and Boks at Eden park next year should go down different.
We gave France their second try with a box kick.
Not a smart play against a team that’s inclined to and can run it back as well as we do.
We’re defending box kicks well now but others execute them better than us and we shouldn’t be using them ourselves, unless as touch finders.
Midfield is where linespeed meets the attacking line, you need strong ball carriers, experience and great defenders there and is why they’ve stuck with Jordie - who’s a lock in for me and Reiko whose X factor is pace - but he’s not been able to make the breaks, so he’s not being the weapon he could be.
I’d look at trying a more power centre in maybe Fainganuku next year, he’s quick also, or maybe move slippery and game smarts Talea into 13 who has the step Reiko doesn't have, not sure if Procter has X factor.
Our effort was great, discipline really good and shows we’re growing. France defense won it for them tho imo.

It sounds simplistic but would Jordie be more the 12 we need with an extra 7 kilos on him? I realise this is easier said than done; however, a few extra kilos would give Jordie the go forward that he's not currently achieving in the collision and with his height, his offload would be awesome. Sorry mark i have to disagree. The song and dance routine before the game is not what rugby followers are all about. We love the game itself, not the prematch entertainment. The game itself was worthy of best of the year for me,
. Congratulations have to go France for their fightback.

As a Springbok supporter, I thought this was the most impressive AB performance of the year. In my opinion, NZ would have been deserving winners. Roigard and Clark were outstanding. Roigard should have stayed on. Coaches don’t HAVE to use their whole bench.

You still think Dmac is not up to the job?
The ABs would have won if he had of started.

If you watch my videos and listen to what I say then you would know that my opinion is that DMAC is best off the bench for this AB team.
And your comment about the AB winning if he had started is unreal. It's as useful as saying that if Dupont didn't start for France the ABs would have won.

France are very hard to beat at home, classy outfit man, 12-13 ABs they arnt cutting it, 14 always starved of ball and has to go looking for it , sevu..sorry mate you got gassed a couple of times, ruben would of been an option because hes fast and nimble, du plesses Keriffe should of played instead of ALB, thunder thighs ! hard to put down, whats with that neck roll penalty !?
