    Can you further explain this part in a timeline “Choose a date when you would complete your training Recommended timeline is 6 months Choose a date to become certified if you’re eligible Recommended timeline is 6 months” Is it you train for 6 months then directly after take your certification exam? Or is, do 6 months of training then do 6 months of studying for certification exam? Just would like a better explanation.

    What was the job description you had at Labcorp? I’m trying to get my foot into the door but i’m not sure where to start. I have a Bachelors in MLS and ASCP certified. I’m more interested in the IT side and wanting to make the transition. Any advice would really help!

    • @HealthTechnologywithBeek
      @HealthTechnologywithBeek 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Vince had an entry level role at Labcorp. According to Vince, luck and persistence was the key. Frankly the challenge with getting an Epic analyst role specifically is getting a healthcare org to sponsor you for training. This is a great goal to have but to get there, several other stepping stone roles help build your experience and network. For example, a lateral change into a IT support role, any kind of application support role in lab software, application specialist roles to train other users. Try looking for jobs directly on the websites of the applications you use in the lab. Networking is important. Try to meet the IT folks at your job and see what's available. Ask them for advice. Build basic IT skills by learning very high level, basic sql, networking, workflows, etc.

    I wish. I've been an EMR Content Specialist (RHIT) for 10 years. It's a fancy word for Medical Records processing/copying where I'm at. I have 4 years on the clinical side as radiologic technologist prior along with an Associate in Microcomputer Software Applications/Programming back in the late 90's-early 2000's. I was offended when my superiors said I am paid to process medical records for requestors only and not being paid to be I.T. when all I want is to be efficient when I know there can be a way. It seems like positions now want you to be EPIC/CERNER certified prior to applying for a position . :( I look at my Health Information Technology credential and ask myself where's the I.T. portion of my current job. It's so misleading.

    • @HealthTechnologywithBeek
      @HealthTechnologywithBeek 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Definitely understand the frustration about your current situation. But your experience in medical records and radiology technology is not wasted! With your additional background in programming, it sounds like you have a strong foundation to become a health IT professional. Especially in radiology IT. As you know, in medical records there's push towards "ditching the disk". Moving away from burning medical images unto CDs and instead sharing them electronically. If you have the opportunity, try to get involved with the image sharing applications such as Ambra, Powershare or any other image sharing/VNA applications. As you build skills with the front end of the application, it may open doors to applying directly to these companies as level 1 support. Then quickly work your way up. Another option is to become a PACS analyst or PACS admin. There are a few videos on our channel on how to accomplish that. Epic certification is the harder route as it requires a healthcare organization to sponsor you (pay for you to become trained). You would need to be persistent in applying and get used to the denials. Eventually you'll get there. You already have what it takes. Don't give up. For some of us it took a simple referral to get into Epic. For others it took 10 years of applying. Everyone's path is different but earning your way towards that goal builds character and makes you a stronger analyst once you're there. Hope this helps.

    • @NightshadeFall
      @NightshadeFall 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I thought about PACs as well. Around where I live, those type of careers in which I call "Unicorns." My first hospital position at one of the big hospitals don't have an inhouse I.T. It was outsource. In addition, I'm so closed/sheltered with my current position (plus the management is way younger than me like in their late 20's to early 40's) so badly that I haven't even heard some of these software applications. It's either by word of mouth or what I'm allowed to use when I can see full potential if designed efficiently. I've been so out from the IT so long, I've lost my love of SQL, etc. I can only dream. I don't think one can ditch the disk quite yet especially for the elderly (patients)..

    How does the Process work to install/integrate DICOM on medical devices? How save is it and how often is it used al ready?

    • @HealthTechnologywithBeek
      @HealthTechnologywithBeek 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like you are asking for a safe way to install DICOM on a medical device. For the medical devices themselves, we expect the vendor/manufacturer to have already installed DICOM software. In some cases, we may need to purchase additional licenses from the vendor to install or active it. For networked devices that are not capable of using DICOM, it is possible to store images in a network share location. Then have a third party system pick up the images to store as dicom. We are unable to answer your question on how to install dicom on a medical device specifically as that is a question for a developer. To integrate dicom, it is fairly simple. You would just need to configure the AET, IP and port of your device. Then configure the AET, IP and port on the PACS. Explained here: pacsbootcamp.com/dicom-configuration/

Ironically, exploring not-so-easy concepts for advanced readers. 1.Nema: dicom.nema.org/medical/dicom/current/output/html/part01.html These are the guys that developed DICOM so they definitely know a thing or two. Hello. I currently work for an employer who uses Epic. I plan to speak with my manager or HR to gain insight in regards to sponsorship. If all things go well, is a sphynx/assessment test required before being accepted to the Epic training program? I cannot seem to find the answer to that specifically.

    • @HealthTechnologywithBeek
      @HealthTechnologywithBeek 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good luck. In our experience, and the experience of my peers the sphynx test was required before getting accepted. However, as applicants, we never found out the results or how we did. It was a difficult test and it seems the scoring was based on logic, critical thinking and how we came to the answer rather than just right/wrong.

    A certification means nothing unless you have gone through a go live and most require 2 from start to end. Even then, the interview process is brutal - people with 10 years FTE experience will be turned down. Good consultants can spot wannabees a mile away and we all know each other. We have a hard stop for anybody who is not a top performer.
