DOG PARKS: Good or Bad? WHY I (mostly) AVOID THEM… for my GOLDENDOODLE DOG
มุมมอง 3.1Kปีที่แล้ว
While there are heaps of great benefits to taking your dog to dog parks, it’s just not my thing. Like many people, I took my dog, Sophie the Goldendoodle (aka Groodle, or Doodle dog) to dog parks when she was a puppy. But I soon found she has pesky habit which overrides her usual sociable nature... and puts her at risk of something that sometimes happens in dog parks: fights. Find out more abou...

GREAT DOG FOOD MANNERS | How I trained my Goldendoodle

    Thank you. Very useful and beautifully presented. I tend to give two fish skins to clean my labradoodles teeth every evening as I also found the dental chews useless. He only chewed on one side and even the large ones disappeared in seconds. I also give him a rabbits ear which I was told sends any worms that may be present out through the gut! So far he has avoided worms using that and a natural wormer every 3 months. He’s 3 1/2 years old. Nail cutting is on the agenda as his groomer is retiring. This video has given me a little confidence to try it. Thank you. 🙏 😊

      @@rodelliott3683 that is such a sweet scene you've described. You are lucky your pup is so good with cats. He sounds like an amazing dog with a particularly good nature. They are all beautiful and special but not all suitable as therapy dogs (many are a tad too anxious, and others, a tad too rambunctious). It's great he has you out and about each week - exercise is key (for them as well as us). I call my dog my 'personal trainer' as she gets me out walking way more than I ever walked before. I try to do it as often as I can, but it ends up not being daily. I believe it's best to do it daily. All the other teeth cleaning methods should act like toothbrushing, so if your pup has something something to chew on, that should act as a toothbrushing session.

    I have never had to trim my doodles nails. They wear down. I think dirt works better than concrete. Dogs pads grip on concrete. It’s one of the dangers pads face with concrete. I got her for support after the death of our son ( 9 years after to be precise) as lots of things have overwhelmed us during this time. Yes, this breed are so smart you have to be one step ahead and they can drive us to distraction!...but, as you have said, it's about being calm, get to know her better by the day and accept her limitations. Thank you for the video. We just got a Goldendoodle pup and he is everything x4 that you described in your video. I was thinking my goodness what have we done. We've only had him now for about two weeks and honestly the thought of selling him crosses my mind all the time. But I keep telling myself if we can just make it trough the puppy stage we will be fine. I believe it will be worth it but man they are something else! Thanks again for the video it was encouraging even though we will have to wait almost two years for it. He's name is Samson and he is 9 weeks old now.

      Thanks for your comment. Many people don't have such experiences but some (like us) do, so it's important to share and realise it is what it is. Patience, training, consistency is the name of the game and the next weeks and months will be a bit of a challenge. You're all still adjusting to one another, so take that into account. You won't need to wait 2 years. 2 years is when Sophie started requiring less exercise/stimulation, but we got into the groove of things sooner than that. It's good to know what to expect and you are yet to go through the puppy teenager phase which is something too. That too shall pass ;-) Think of it as having a toddler at home, though the phase is not nearly as long as humans. Take a look through all my puppy videos on this channel - I share all I can. It took my husband some time to bond with Sophie (such a rascal was she), but when he did, it became complete love.

    We just rescued an 11 month old Golden Doodle. Ella has a very tight curly coat and I was wondering if her coat will appear more relaxed if I let it grow out some ? Right now she looks just like a poodle.

    • @MyGoldendoodleDiary
      @MyGoldendoodleDiary 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you let it grow out and brush it out it will relax, but when it's no longer brushed out or when you wet it it will naturally go back to a tight curl as that is just how her coat is (obviously a big poodle influence in her genes). And if daily maintenance is too hard, just keep her clipped nice and short (nowadays I keep mine clipped much shorter than before and she is happy). Enjoy your lovely new girl Ella - beautiful name too. x

    • @MyGoldendoodleDiary
      @MyGoldendoodleDiary 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a shame. But what is she motivated by? Perhaps a piece of 'high value' food like a bit of cheese or roast chicken. Perhaps she has a toy she is very enthused about. Use what works for her to gradually desensitise to the car. Bit by bit. x

    I think all dogs have different personalities. We describe our doodle, Ginger, as "Bob Marley," she is laid back. She only barks when she wants to come in, and it is usually one bark at a time. She is very smart. Now my daughter's doodle will bark at any animal on TV as long as it is on the tv. Ginger doesn't. Our doodle loves to sit on chairs, sit on the riding lawn mower, loves to go for rides in the car. They are great dogs, her only bad trait is stealing paper out of trash cans, and food left in her reach.

      I do hope it works for you. You may need to extend out the time for each stage, depending on how your dog reacts. It sure is an exercise in huge patience. Sometimes you may progress too quickly so just drop back to the last stage your dog was OK with. All the best x

    Thank you for this video. I have a mini-golden doodle and I keep telling my mum he is gradually learning and will eventually calm down a bit but it may take longer than a year. He's only about 7-8 months so he's still young. I will show this video to her to have better understanding. He's not our first dog by far but first of this breed.

      I'm in that boat..first of her breed, and first puppy as i have taken on rescue dogs in the past!...I thought, this will be our last ever dog, so lets choose, I know I chose right...mine's even younger than yours but hey, she's crate trained, house trained and leash trained and I have to be proud of that, I'm 61 and I wonder what on earth I'm doing?, but, I know that the more I do now the better my adult dog will be....I'll be so shot to bits by then she will need to look after ME!!🤣

    We can relate! Our GD is 8 months old now. He is VERY energetic at certain times of the day but he is a good napper too. He loves tug of war and fetch and never seems to tire. He is doing well at obedience school (smart). When we moved his crate from downstairs to our bedroom that helped A LOT. We failed crate training so he likes to sleep in the bathroom or downstairs in the kitchen..he gets hot we think. He is a big time chewer so we go through a lot of bully sticks. Our next step is dealing with seperation anxiety. I work from home so he hasn't had to deal with that yet. We would like to go back to eating at a restaurant again some day.
