We rode from London to Paris in 24 hours (Part 2)
Great timing! I'm trying to boost my average speed to be able to join my friends group ride. Currently very slow at 20kph
I feel like I've seen this somewhere before?? 🤣 🤣
I’m guessing you’ve been on my Instagram feed! 😂
@@petertreadway Nope, you seem to have uploaded the same video twice 🤣🤣
@@petertreadway PS I'm now following you on Instagram 👀👀
@@FOB-on-a-bike D'oh! No idea how I;ve managed that! 🤣
Appreciate the use of a tube instead of tubeless. I'd argue most bicycle riders just don't ride enough to justify tubeless.
Line the inner tube puncture hole up with the tyre puncture hole to find and remove whatever caused the puncture.
Good tip. This is why it’s also good practice to line the tyre branding up with the valve, so you can judge where on the tyre the hole was made. 👌🏻
@@petertreadway I use a tyre crayon to mark the tyre position in relation to the valve. Makes it really easy to align the puncture with the probable cause.
Just a little note. With a rear puncture, always remove the inner tube on the non drive side. Stops you getting oil all over the tube. That's how I was taught 👍😁
Pro tip right there! 😉
Tubeless is the way forward. It's a Faff to start with, getting your head around how they work but I've not had a puncture for over 3 years and I ride proper bikes aka MTBs 😂😂😂. Top tip IF you pick up a thawn don't just pull it out! Cut down with small side cuts and pull it out and use the rubber insert kit when ya home 👍
Yeh, I’ve yet to experiment with tubeless but it’s definitely on my list of things to try. That tip sounds like it comes from experience too. 😂
@petertreadway mate I will WhatsApp you sometime, I Carry the tubeless repair kit and small side cuts all the time. It largely depends on weather and trail conditions and distance/type of ride im on as to whether I wait till I'm home to use the kit...
Or go tubeless. Not foolproof I know but certainly worth considering.
💯% Tubeless is the way forward 👍
Yeh, will definitely try tubeless at some point. 👌🏻
First time viewer. Can you please get some better LED lighting in your studio space. I want to see what you are talking about.
Yeh, this was one of my first studio videos, so the lighting wasn't quite dialled in at this point. Cheers though.
Similar to my carrera zelos 2015 i got last year for 56 pounds does the job on the east Sussex coast 😊💕
The best bike in the world is the one you have available to you and it sounds like yours is just perfect, Joanne. 💪
I got a reflective strip on my tires by default, acid headlight (I'm a bit of a monk - the headlight needs to be center), rear light too, and reflective stripes applied to my tights at the ankle and on my jacket at the neck... But I usually ride on a dedicated bike track in my area - a former and tarred railroad, so there's only need for reflective gear for other riders, pedestrians, and at the occasional junction with the roads...
Always good to be visible, regardless of where you're riding, so it sounds like you've got a good setup.
Great video , you could sell snow to an Eskimo. It looks like a nice bike , reasonably priced just not something I need. We have no buses or trains near by , and with all our hills I would need some good gears. I think they will do well with this bike especially with Mr Treadway super sales man helping. Enjoy your week.
You're too kind, as ever, Richard. I've actually ridden this a few more times since this video though and I've not found the one gear to be as much of an issue as I did in London. It's obviously not built for pure speed, so as a comfortable commuter that pushes you along at 15mph, it works really well. Very much appreciate your inout as always though. Have a great one yourself.
I am currently looking to upgrade my current oversized gravel bike frame and I saw Niner selling their aluminum frames with carbon fork for 599 us. This is from an American bicycle company with good customer support. I would still have to equip the bicycle like you did . I wonder how much weight I would actually be saving by purchasing a seraph frame?
This frame comes in at 1190g or just over 2.5lbs. I'd be interested myself to know how that differs from the Alu Niner you're looking at.
Lovely stuff Pete. Grit and persistence. Huge congrats on this milestone. Looking forward to sharing your 2025 journey!
Thanks so much, mate. Really appreciate the comment. Hope you’re all well. 👌🏻
I'm a new Subscriber, looking forward to watching old and new videos, Thanks for your top tips and honestly Happy New Year 🎉
Thanks so much, Terry. So great to have you aboard and really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. 💪🏻🌟 Happy new year to you and yours too.
Mate good to know you’re a wedding photographer! I’d love a cheeky e-commute bike… but I think it would be a commute to the pub bike mainly 😂
An e-pub bike… that could be useful! 😂 You getting married then? I’m scaling back on the weddings to dedicate more time to TH-cam currently. Hoping to do this full time at some point in the near future. 👌🏻
@ not quite yet… but I can’t hold it off much longer 😂 Incredible you’re already at that point! Imagine all the extra Treadway content I’d be watching 🔥🔥🔥
😂 not quite ready to quit completely just yet. Just dipping my toe in the ‘slowly scaling back’ pool! 😂 But yeh, extra content is my goal! 👌🏻
Good morning Peter, You truly are bilingual, 😂😂😂. I'm originally from Newcastle, and I think "geordie" should also be classified as it's own language . But ! Compared to cockney rhyming slang, a Geordie on a rant sounds like a 1950s BBC broadcaster. How about a pair of 45Nrth drop bar pogies as an addition to next year's top 10 Christmas list. Regards, Neil.
I’ve got family in Newcastle (well, Whitley Bay, but close enough) and I entirely agree that Geordie should have its own designation! 😂 I’d never heard of Pogies before though, but having just googled them, they’re defo going on the list for Christmas this year. 😉
Porridge was great for years, but now makes me 💩. Interrups a long ride in an inconvenient way. I miss my porridge 😢
Yeh, the mid ride trots are arguably worse than bonking! Good to have afterwards as a recovery remedy though. 👌🏻
Hi Peter I love watching your videos with all your crazy mates congratulations on your mile stone it always makes me want to get out with my group for a ride except the one you went out in the storm the other week 😂 not me thanks 🤔 keep it up Peter looking forward to more videos in 2025 happy new year 👍
You have to embrace the adventure, Leslie. No great story ever started by saying ‘looks a bit windy out, I’ll stay in’ 😂 Thanks so much for your very kind words and your support though. It’s very much appreciated. 💪🏻🌟
@ this is true Peter but at the age of 74 if you get blown off the bike you don’t bounce very well 😂
I've only recently started topping up my carbs on my ride. Makes a world of difference. I always thought me bonking was just me being unfit 😅
It's amazing how much difference it makes, isn't it! I've bonked a couple of times now and it just feels awful... especially when you're 30 miles form home and have no other way of getting back!
Great video! Can you roll the bike along while folded? I'm curious why more folding bikes aren't designed to be rolled around like a suitcase, especially electric ones.
You can and you raise a good point that o forgot to mention. It does roll when folded however it can be a little unsteady and if you don’t hold the handle bar firmly, the front wheel can veer and then the magnet holding the two ends together disengages. It is technically possible though.
Определённо, 20км/ч , для этой машины больше чем достаточно. Так что ограничение не проблема.
Absolutely and especially riding through busy city streets, which is what this bike is designed for. But actually, I’ve taken it out a few times since this video and actually got it up to 37kmh/23mph. My legs were spinning ridiculously fast at that speed, due to the single gear, but crazy that it can go that fast. 👌🏻
Well done, we are a similiar age and whereas you have kept up the cycling, I come and go! I also found your channel from Great Dun climb, how funny
Sticking with anything is difficult, as life always seems to throw you curveball to eat up your time! Good to get out on two wheels whenever you can though. Thanks so much for watching and commenting though and for the support.
Helpfull
That's great. Glad you found it useful.
6:17 Bloomin nightmare those coppers and their sirens! I think for the price it's rather tempting. Obviously you could drop double and half the weight, but if it's something you're not carrying it that much then why not save yourself a grand and get this bad boy!
Agreed but on this occasion it was an ambulance! 😂 It’s honestly a great bike for the money though. 👌🏻
You arent kidding about muscle cramps. I've had em a couple of times on long, hot rides. These days I put a little salt in my bottles, just in case.
Yep, suffered with them myself more times than I care to remember! 😖. Salt, as you suggest, and some Ribena (other juice brands are available) in your bidon works wonders. 👌🏻
@@petertreadway Agreed. In addition to a pinch of salt, I can recommend a bottle mix of 40g of brown sugar, 40g of honey, plus a dash of lemon juice. Add a small amount of hot water to dissolve, then fill up with cold. It's not TOO sweet, and costs a fraction of branded products. Keeps me going on metric centuries! Cheers
Hi Peter, Thank you for sharing your TH-cam journey, and doing such a wonderful job of creating this video. As someone who does something similar, it was refreshing hearing you document all of your trials and tribulations, and seeing how your journey was so similar to my own……Your first 100 subscribers, and then the 1000 milestone….. I celebrated on that day!!!! Oh, and the frustrations of things like the failed video that you thought was great, or questioning yourself, and what makes you the expert. I remember standing in my workshop once, talking to the camera, and thinking that nobody would actually care about what I was talking about, and that this particular video idea was a bad idea. But I uploaded it anyway. I was on holiday when it exploded, and it’s the most successful video I’ve even done. So, as you say, just go for it. Once again Peter, thank you for sharing your journey, you’ve inspired me! All the best, Jon
Wow, thanks so much Jon. I love your channel, and have equally taken huge inspiration from you over the last couple of years, so to see such a generous and comprehensive message from you is really an honour. TH-cam really is a funny old beast though, isn't it? Who can really tell what's going to explode and what isn't! We just have to keep trying to make informative and relatable content and hope people find it as such. We also start out as cyclists and end up becoming more of a solo film crew with video editing expertise... I never saw that one coming! So glad I took the plunge though. Thanks so much again for taking the time to watch and comment. Very much appreciated.
@@petertreadway Hi Peter, Yeah, I didn’t see most of this stuff coming!!: Who would’ve thought the most important part of a video would be the audio? Why are 114 lights, producing 27 gigawatts, still not bright enough? When I make a video, 90% of my time is spent not making a video. Why do people think I earn a fortune from doing this? Transitions, timelines, & frame rate ….. Does Park Tool make a spanner for that? So, let me get this right, that £800 vlogging camera doesn’t have the right lens???? Why do I wave my arms around when I talk? Cheap microphones are cheap for a reason…… Stop buying them Jon!! I don’t cycle much any more, because I have a cycling channel I could go on all day with this list 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh man, the lighting is my biggest pet peeve! Not only is it never enough, but as my ‘studio’ space is so small, it feels like I’m having to run the Krypton Factor around, over and under all of the light modifiers to get to my desk after hitting record on the camera! 🤦🏻♂️ Adding to your ‘90% of making a video is not making a video’, my biggest frustration with bike builds is that I can probably competently put a bike together from scratch in a couple of hours… why then does it take me 4 days when I’m recording it! The angles, the close ups, moving the lights for the close ups, moving the lights back after the close ups, undoing and redoing parts because I hit the 30 minute recording buffer on my camera and the last 5 minutes of work and talking weren’t captured ! We should start a club for cycling content creators to moan about creating cycling content! 😂 As frustrating as it can be sometimes though, I love the moment you hit that ‘create’ button in YT Studio and start to upload…. Until I remember I still have to craft a keyword heavy title, description and tags… and how have I forgotten to make a thumbnail again! It’s never ending. 😂
Pre watching it, let me guess... Yes, putting less poison in your body did improve your health? 😂
How did you guess? 😂 Don’t let that stop you watching though. 😉
Congratulations Peter it has been a great pleasure watching you and your guys enjoy a simple bike ride . It is strange how things work out for the best keep going.
Thanks so much, Ian. Yep, in the nicest possible sense, I do sometimes find myself asking 'why is anyone watching ME?' but it's so lovely to see the views and kind comments after I upload. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave such a lovely message.
Just watched your 100th Congratulations, Pete. How will you celebrate it? Subscriber group ride! Lol! I enjoy your content. As you may know from a previous post, I'm riding chase the sun and looking to document my journey. Can I ask what editing software you use? Is it an easy process to edit? I've uploaded old go pro snowboarding vids but not with the slickness of your posts. As you say, content is key, so hopefully, I can captivate an audience. Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated. May make it over to West Essex on my training rides this year. Be good to catch up. Keep the content going and happy riding 🎉
Thanks so much, Del! Gutted we haven't yet got to meet, but hopefully we'll get the opportunity if you're doing the DunRun again this year but otherwise, please drop me a line if you're heading over this way. Regards the editing, I use Adobe Premiere Pro, which can be expensive if you're only using it now and then. I was lucky to have it from the start, as I use the full Adobe Creative Suite of apps for my photography work, but I may have been reluctant to spend out on it in the early days if that wasn't the case. Take a look at CapCut though, which now has a free desktop app, that has so much more functionality than the mobile version. That'll definitely get you going for now. The editing itself can be as easy or as difficult as you want to make it, but naturally it gets easier and quicker over time. I like to keep my edits fairly simple, with probably the only bit that's a little beyond anyone just picking editing up being the ducking off the background music during the speaking parts. There are plenty of YT tutorials for any given programme though, so nothing's insurmountable. I also tend to cut any 'Umms, errs' and dead space out too, just to keep the pace up a bit.Really all depends on the video though, as the early morning one I posted recently was a much slower paced affair and had lots of 'thinking space'. I could go on, but I'd be here forever! 😂 I'm no expert, but feel free to drop me a line on IG if you need any other filming or editing advice though. Otherwise, thanks so much for all of your support over the last couple of years.
Well all maintenance upfront doesn't help when the front derailleur is iced up during the ride and converts your 2-by- to a 1-by-setup 😂 Happened to me yesterday...
Brrrrrrr... Yeh, that doesn't sound fun.... but then also sounds incredibly fun at the same time! 😂. Hope you managed to thaw the FD out before your next ride!
Just great Peter, please keep them coming. Would be a disaster if I didn’t have one of your videos to watch 👍
That's a very kind thing of you to say, Terry, thanks so much. I really appreciate all of your support and have no fear, I have no intention of giving up and resting on my laurels just yet! 💪
I'll never not stand up and climb if I can :) - Also remember that you are 99.999999 % not in a race, thus take as long as you need to get up "that hill". Also, low gears are your friends. I reccomend a 1:1 ratio (34/34)
I agree with every word you've said, unless you're in a race to the cafe with your mates! 😂 I'm currently building a mountain bike with a 1x system which has a 38t chainring and a 52T cassette.... I reckon I could climb a cliff face with that! 😂
Ironically, the road bike video is the one that led me to your channel. Not sure why it was recommended, or what I was even searching when it did, but I'm grateful for it, because I appreciate your videos. Thanks, Peter. Have a blessed 2025, my friend!
Thanks so much, John and am so glad it was my 'experiment' that led you to finding the channel. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment and I wash you a wonderful 2025 too.
Well done Peter. Keep on going mate.
Thanks so much, Steve, I fully intend too. 💪
Well done. It's great to follow you and your riding buddies. I'm planning some rides into Essex from my home in Surrey this year. Not explored the area much.
Thanks so much, Andy, I'm so glad you enjoy the videos. Also, Surrey to Essex will be a great ride. Having done Essex to Richmond Park and back late 2023, I had an absolute blast. You'll find the terrain much less 'lumpy' up this way, but there are some stunning routes and vistas to take in. 💪
Found your channel after I rode the Garmin rideout in 2024.....and saw myself in the video. Watched all your back catalogue since. Nice one
I have to say, Andrew, I would have found it awesome to see myself in the background of a TH-cam video, so I can understand your excitement with it. So glad you've enjoyed all the videos though and I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
Cool
💪
