all companys are crap 💩💩💩 and the few good forks cost as much as a whole bicycle👎👎👎 I bought a Rockrider bike from Decathlon 5 years ago that cost €110. I ride it 1000km every year and it still shifts and brakes. Last year I switched to extra wide BigApple tires so I have some cushioning. They cost as much as the whole bike new but are worth it This year I made the mistake of buying an enduro bike for 2000,- and it shifts just as badly as the Rockrider, but I forgive the Rockrider.😁 Since I got the bike, the problems have started, the Rockshox Silver R fork is complete rubbish. The only good thing about the bike is the frame, the handlebars and the saddle. It's quicker to list the good things than the bad ones.
I love your insight! Please keep tinkering away 😃
This is a channel where I absolutely don't mind some sponsored content. My dude is working it from his own pocket, so have at it bro! 👏🏻🥳
Yo OTTER quick question ⁉️ I have a 150mm lyrik with the rush rc damper Is it plossible to upgrade to the 3.1 system ❓ Thank You in advance 💯🖖🏽🤘🏽🥞
Had the Bomber air on my Kenevo for a year now and it's done around 1500 miles in the bike parks. Damn thing just does a good job without the constant need for tinkering which I love! It handles the constant casing of jumps, bad lines and flat landings that the idiot on the bike keeps subjecting it to! LOL. Gonna treat it to an air can service soon.
Digressive shimstack does not mean it is easier to bottom out at deeper travel. Shimstack is not position sensitive but speed sensitive. Damper graph describes how much damping force is created at each velocity. Digressive tune means that at higher shaft speeds as shaft speed increases force does not increase as much as at lower speeds. You would not want your compression to feel stiff just as you hit a root... I like to compare it to jumping off a ledge on your feet - at first you move your knees a lot and then proceed to slow the movement down by applying more force. You would not want to apply most resistance to your knees just as your feet hit the ground. English not native language and typing on a phone so excuse grammar and general style. In general you would want a digressive compression tune.
I have this fork, and love it. But I found it took the LONGEST to set up than anything I’ve ridden before. Specifically I found the recommended settings for the ramp up chamber to be far too low. (I weight about the same as Mr. Otter and ride a lot of steep chunk.)
*never trust a guy who uses Zee brakes with Sram rotors*
Bro zee front saint rear and mismatch levers

wow wow. I love my 2020ish Fox 36 170mm (yes that was an option then) grip? and I love the rhythm forks too. Not sure if the demo firebord I had was x2 or x but it was supportive asl. Love all fox forks tbh. old zeb i hated (felt dead) new zeb prolly much nicer, havent tried. Damn just bough a grip 2 in the summer on discount should have maybe waited haha
maybe try some Teflon plumbers tape on the shock collar threads. It will close up the thread tolerances and make it more difficult for the collar to walk back the preload.
You would think for the price it should not need modifying to fix something , but then again this is the mountain biking industry .
got to suck that rocky mountain is going bankrupt....
In my opinion fox and rockshox are like the iphone and apple of the world, they work but are never the innovators, its always the smaller boutique brands that invent the new and interesting system that in 10 years time will eventually trickly down to fox and rockshox
that shock sounds horrible, inconsistant = injury!!! ask me how i know this... lol
My local bike park is at 10,000ft and I run an air shock with none of your described issues with air shocks at elevation. I just set pressures in the parking lot to account for the new riding elevation and that's about it. That being said I'm also a much lighter weight rider so that may have something to do with it since I'm running lower pressures.
Interesting video! I’m glad I never pulled the trigger on this shock now. Also, any plans to do a Genie/SJ 15 review?
I understand this shock but not sure exactly if they did market studies on it since it's niche ASF. I applaud the effort, that's probably what they are going after it would make sense as a lower volume company. It's probably the ideal shock for someone out there 😅 Oh btw bad news 💀 Order the replacement bits and pieces you think you might need for the Rocky Mountain now they might not make it to 2026. 🤦
Worst shock.... You didn't ride back in the vanR or 5th element days. That vanR would blow up off a kerb.
Awesome
Thanks for the video, Otter. I appreciate the honest review ❤
I don't like digressive stacks as well, however the bottom out resistance deeper in the travel has mainly to do with the low pressure bladder technology cane creek is using and the used coil spring. Because although calling the stack digressive, the opening force of the stack still goes up with higher shaft speeds. I found that with cc shocks I literally always had to use higher spring rates compared to other manufacturers.
However I never used the tigon to be honest. Just used the double barrels
Looks the part though 😅
Surely does look 💰
Should have included the formula selva, it may only be 35mm stantions but is rated up to 180mm travel and is stiffer then some 38mm stantion forks
Just got it yesterday, please thise adjusment keys, may I use some common allen keys or they are some special? That PT THH-1 set is too much expensive.
Those are fine
Got a new fork? Disassemble it right away! Lol
My Orbea wild came with a Float X, and it was absolute garbage - could never get it right. In fairness, I’m a heavier rider at 105kg, and probably should always be on a coil shock. Based upon your vids, I bought the OHLINS TTX22 M.2 COIL - UNBELIEVABLE!! It transformed the bike, still can’t get over how well it rides with the Ohlins. For anyone in Australia, talk to NS Dynamics, Brisbane. They really know their stuff.
Good to hear dog. I’m same weight coil just makes life better. Last couple air shocks deflated themselves to 240 psi and they rode good, except pedal strikes. So if you can’t hit your sag at 240 psi coil is better.
Spot on Otter! The RFX38 m.2 is coming soon, to complete the marriage
are those 32mm stanchions on the marzocchi? the flex probably makes it feel plush
Dude, this is a great video. Very informative. Thanks for sharing! I think I want one of those Ohlins now
Can I recommend you trial some of these forks with AND without a Diaz RUNT? i.e. FOX 36 stock vs FOX 36 with RUNT,Lyric stock vs Lyric with RUNT. Try to get some generalizations about differences. After all its a cheap way to effectuate a near-coil feel.
Nah don’t be deceived. When Marzocchi was strictly Italian they were amazing. But as soon as Fox bought them out, Marzocchi became the “ budget “ line for Fox There is a reason why the rear and front shocks are cheaper as they are not as good, cheaper materials, not as durable and I had a Marzocchi Z1 that broke down only after 1 year. I stick to Fox period!
Hey dude do you remember what where the exact diameter in mm of each damper?
I don’t latest video I tore both apart you can see them
Always the case that there is bugger all reviews on lower spec dampers like the grip, thanks for the info
strange, I weigh about 130 kg and everyone tells me to buy super deluxe air. because I'm too heavy for the spring. I'm going to pick up the RS lyrik ult and the RS super deluxe air today.
What year shock is that Otter?
Best mechanic on the internet by far 😂, love the burning down everything technique that I have not seen before, very inspiring...Love from Spain.
😬
Would you recommend this shock for a rider that weighs roughly around 260lbs with full kit?
This is a really stupid video…. 😂 basically just a video to say he thinks a 29er rear is better than a 27.5 video… so he basically just brought the wrong bike! 😂 the clearance on the thing doesn’t look good at all and you just exposed the linkage to stones which could badly damage the frame for the sake of forcing a 29er into a dedicated mx bike… if you want a full on 29er don’t listen to this guy! Just buy a full 29er ebike.
Cool
hey otter, when is the Zeb 3.1 damper vs Fox 38 grip x2 video coming out?
Mezzer Pro has HBO as well. No tokens just two air springs. Gives great mid-stroke support. Went from Fox 36 with Smashpot to Mezzer Pro. So much better.
I'm not sure it's a good idea to heat the crown that much. Aren't these thermal treated from factory ??? Bit like a cracked alloy frame, you cannot weld it, it will break the thermal treatment and will crack again soon or later 🤔
It’s a horrible idea myth buster doesn’t even fix it
Fun shit, what a great video. I can relate to these DIY projects that just end up as an nightmare. Last time i service my Fox 38, i hammered directly on the threaded ends of the air spring to get the lowers of. I damaged the lower end of the thread and i used 2 hours fixing it so it could be put back to together. Live and learn...
I know this feeling to well. I snapped a shock last week
Why on my (2022) Fox Racing Factory Float 38 GRIP2 High And Low Red rebound dial move after setting one or the other?? . IS THIS NORMAL ANYONE????? 😢😢😢😢😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯😠
Which one is more plush? This or e-storia? Thanks for the great videos. 👍
They are same, just different ride. Push is slower safer planter ext is dancing
sometimes forks seem to dive when they are not, imo because they have probably been tuned for a a wide coverage of bikes they might go on that have different leverage ratios and linkage types, higher end forks have tuning in mind for specific new bikes and brands that couple those especially for race scenarios where they are implementing the best version of that bike, the higher end forks get that refinement because they are marketed to people know there worth. the lower end I think is aiming for volume in sales and for people who wont be hitting as hard or fast the trails so a cheap stock fork will always lose that smaller bump sen if your gona firm them up for chunk, your an experienced rider I think you make good judgements, i just dont have experience from pulling them apart
Blue liquid labs sell the press tools
Loctite break down with heat so probably useless heating it
maybe try to service the air spring if it loses the air so rapidly
You sound like the dude from Seattle coffee gear! Not bad just weird.
You need to ride them as hard as you can when they have warranty and just send it for a new csu
