  • In this video I show how to replace all dim burnt out stock gauge cluster bulbs. I show all the positive negative polarity at each connection. .........and watch to the end, I reposition and angle the bulbs and see if it makes the back light more even.

    Thank you so much! Unlike some other videos, you took the time to share the polarity of the light bulb / LED pads. The other guys are selling their $2 of LEDs for $30+ and only providing the data once you buy. You saved me a bunch of time! I used the same modules you did, but trimmed the leads very short. I've found with LEDs that their throw distance is important - they have a narrower beam and backing them up as much as possible helps even out the glow.

      Thanks, glad it helped. Thanks for the comment and advice. Yes, I was thinking I should have shortened the leads, and then ended up bending them down and back. Thanks again.

    This helped me greatly! Much thanks. Funny thing is I was angling the bulbs right before you started angling yours. Just looked like it wouldn’t shine correctly. Thanks again!

      @@ucanduitdude2317 it’s my sons truck. I finished it shortly after my first comment. You laying out the positive side helped the job go much faster and it works perfectly. He’s got an 04 but it’s the same. He bought some blue ones that are really bright and they light up the whole thing much better.

      So I did the deed and the leds are awesome sauce but the gauges aren't working still replaced all the stepper motors with the x27 updates and reflowed all the resistors with new solder no luck

    Thanks for all your detail and thorough explaination in this video. I understand that the turn signal and cruise control lamps are short duty cycle lamps. That said, is there any problem using LED lamps to replace those three lamps? Did you check polarity for the turn signal and Cruie control lamps?

    just finished replacing my stepper motors, and used the led lights that came in the kit i bought. after everything was reinstalled back into the truck, i noticed all the lights are working, but they are not near bright enough. do you have a link on where you purchased your led's?

    Can i buy a new cluster for my chevy silverado, one that comes with LED already, without it messing anything up with my truck? like the mileage and all that

    • @MichaelJohnson-mh7mp

      Unless you have someone clone the chip from your current inst panel, you'll loose VIN and odometer, and possibly some functions.

  • @BoughtNotBuilt

    You didn't have to use resistors for those LED's? I noticed a few people say they require resistors if they aren't already built into the LED. One guy said they didn't last without the resistors.

    • @ucanduitdude2317
      @ucanduitdude2317  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking most LED's had the resistors built in? The ones we installed are still working good.

      When you look closely at the back of these bulbs you can see a tiny resistor.

    • @BoughtNotBuilt
      @BoughtNotBuilt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @leedek66 you are correct, after receiving the ones I ordered, they have a resistor built in, visible on the backside. The LED's I swapped in all burnt out within 6 months.

      Look at the X27 168, GM Instrument Kit, it has more than you need (stepper motors, leds, and a soldering iron), but it's only about $31

    hey I got a question, do you have to use that resin core when soldering? does it matter what i use?

    • @ucanduitdude2317
      @ucanduitdude2317  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I always use rosin core solder for electronic connections.

    • @leedek66
      @leedek66 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Acid core solder, like what's used for radiator repair, will corrode electronic joints. I t may not happen quickly but over time the joint will fail. Always us rosin (flux) core solder for anything electronic/electrical.
