Schuyler NLT Caxton Bible Review in British Tan Goatskin
I’ve been putting my pen in my PSQ like you do and I’m loving the wear.
I spent many years just using the hard bound ESV Bible that my church used for my reading, but only in the past year now that I am retired decided to do more research on Bible translations and searching for a good Study Bible. I made my decision to buy the ESV Study Bible even though I also have a Lutheran Study Bible as my main text for study and for reading I chose the Schuyler Quentel NASB 1995 Bible in red Goatskin. I love both of these Bibles and will once I complete reading the ESV Study Bible I may purchase another Bible for note taking and writing within the text. At this time I do not wish to write in my Schuyler Quentel. At the same time I also at time rely on my Olive Tree App where I can quickly compare translations and jump to references easily.
Thanks my man! So helpful. I've always wanted a personal size Schuyler to complement my full size, and have never liked the old, compact PSQ. This one looks so much better, like the "Thinline" bible size available everywhere (though thicker, by the looks of it, which is fine). Appreciate you doing this breakdown and specifically comparing it side-by-side to old PSQ. Solid 👊🏼
Where did you get your carry case?
Hey, Heather! I got it from Rustic Leatherworks. Here is their link rusticleatherworks.com
I was on the fence with whether or not I wanted the Imperial blue or black goatskin. Your video convinced me to get the blue😊
So how long can this last me? Should any of these hard effects of just 4 years happen for a $212 Bible?
great video!
Is it line matched?
Thank you for this video review. I love RLW and had them already do 2 rebinds for me. I’m thinking about getting this black goatskin on another Bible. Me too! I love heavier gsm paper; and that paper in your Allen Bible looks (and sounds) great! God’s grace and peace to you in the fullest measure!
I own several premium bibles and the Pitt Minion in brown goatskin is my favorite.
Great video. Lots of questions but great video.
@@billanderson7059 what are some of your questions?
@@ChrisGSTLall kinds of nerdy questions like how do you organize your sermon notes, stuff like that.
@@billanderson7059 I will make note to do a video on my sermon prep.
Have your tried the heirloom collection from crossway?
I’ve had my PSQ for a little over a month and I got water spots from the rain on it today and got excited. It’s so hard to make a premium Bible look used with normal use. I know a month isn’t any great length of time, but still.
Drop cap for chapters are way more important than words. It looks like the chapters would be a pain to find. I don’t understood why they thought this was a good idea. Good review!!
Usually those marks are scars from the animal the leather is from
Thanks so much for this video. I didn’t know about the new size and that’s a game changer for me. I was able to get a Stridon in saddle brown earlier this year. Also not a full yapp guy. I went with the Tuscany in the psq for variety.
The paper is 27 gsm with a slight cream tint. It’s highly opaque doesn’t have enough show-through to be distracting.
Near-sighted people (like me) can see extremely well up close; so small print is just fine. Far-sighted people have trouble with things up close.
They are not edge lined so that they can lay flat from the beginning. It is a design feature, not a downfall.
How has the saddle brown been holding up for you so far?
Aren't you aware that any other Translations change the Deity of Christ, God, the Blood!!! Come on man! The King James is all you need. If you can't understand it, then pray for it.
Come on man. Times have changed and so has language. This isnt the 1600’s anymore. I for one am happy there are other translations out there. Just like when we talk with others, its helps to understand the bigger picture when hearing it from a different perspective.
My favorite single column is Crossway heritage. Just love the layout.
Question: Do you see yourself buying a new ESV Study bible from Schuyler/Crossway? They have new versions for 2024.
@@Jay-ef2iiGreat question! No, I don’t see the need to buy a second one. The one I have is doing very well. If I bought another one, I’d probably just keep it as a backup for whenever the one I use wears out to much.
Dude I love your videos and love the idea of this series!!
Theology Brewed in an African Pot sounds like a very interesting read. Currently serving in Africa, so this may be just the ticket for my next read.
Thank you for giving us a peek into your day Pastor. As someone who is considering full time ministry, would love to hear how you answered the call or got into ministry full-time.
love Allan bibles, just have a classic feel
You can get a pen loop to stick on the front or back of the back. They come in packs of five for less than $10.
I just can’t understand what Schuyler is thinking. For years so so many of us have been asking for a sort of mid-size quentel. Not for the actual physical dimensions but rather they could increase the font size to like a 9-9.5. So they finally listen, make a bigger physical PSQ, but keep the font the same size (8.5)? I truly don’t understand.
Hi Chris. Thanks for the video. I just got a new PSQ in Imperial Blue and the goatskin seems a little different than my other Schuyler bibles. It’s a bit shinier, stiffer & more “plastic” like in its feel. Dare I say it seems a bit thinner and “lesser” quality…just seems a bit less supple than my others. How does the black goatskin compare on your new vs old Quentel? Thanks again for the video!
Hi Aaron! Thanks for the comment. So I also purchased a new PSQ ESV in Black Goatskin that I haven’t reviewed yet and I found that the goatskin on both this new Quentel and the new PSQ in black goatskin is phenomenal. It could be possible that the specific goatskin you received on that Bible is different due to the fact that each goats skin is different from the next. This can be a love or hate relationship with goatskin. Since Schuyler Bibles are handcrafted, there will always be some variation to quality and build.
The new PSQ looks ideal. It would be nice to have one, but I'm happy with my Crossway wide margin and small sized esv Thinline Reference. So I don't need to buy another ESV.
Thanks for the detailed comparison 😊. I like the small type size and the increased line spacing. But noticed that the new edition has smaller margins. I think the new spine hubs could pretty easily be tooled in and made to look nicer. That's what I would do if I had one.
Where do stand on the book Young Messiah? I’m reading it currently and I’m struggling. I can’t find ANY biblical accuracies besides the names Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
Thanks for this. I ended up selling my full size and PSQ I had a few years ago as the Quintal is a tad too big to be practical, and the PSQ was too small. I always loved Crossway's thinking size, and I'm very happy that Schuyler have finally done something similar!
So not using your old Quentel for preaching anymore?
When comparing bibles it would be helpful to open both bibles to the same passage
Thanks for the helpful comment brother! I will keep that in mind.
Have you seen any printing errors or faded pages in the new Q? Several copies have had this problem.
@@souldier2425 Hi, I have not!
Great video that really brings the size comparison into perspective. Just a note that a lot of your video was out of focus
I only hope that the new ESV Quentels -- full-size (which I understand is a bit thinner than the older version) and PSQ (which is slightly larger and more "mid-sized") hold up as well as the previous Schuylers.
The Bible is a Catholic book ❤️
So what were the Christians reading before Constantine? We have always known what scripture was. Christians didn’t need a counsel to decide what scripture was… Furthermore….maybe the pope should read it more frequently because he seems to think salvation lies outside of Christ…straight heretical. It’s interesting seeing all the apologetic gymnastics people are doing to defend his recent statements.
@@WordMadeFlesh777 , you use books we picked out. Pope opinions don't bind the Church to anything.
Does the new psq mirror the new larger quentel
Yes they have the same exact layout and pagination
Thank you for the video !!! I wonder if all these changes is them just trying to re-wamp their best q series bibles and make it more uniform. I guess we will see if other translations will follow the ESV and NLT in the near future. It’s interesting but when I pulled my NASB (thin line) I noticed that I had a significant amount of lined paper after revelation, this was followed only by maps.
Schuyler will be releasing a bible in my favorite Spanish translation Next year. So, can't wait for it... Thanks for sharing brother.
do you think you’ll ever do a bible give away ?
Personally, I don’t like drop caps, so it’s a no for me lol
I agree. If they went with the NLT style drop caps I would like that a lot more than the ornamental ones.
I forgot to write when I saw this first last night that comparing the thickness is really helpful! Thanks, brother.
You been killing it with these Quentel videos the last week. So helpful! Thank you!
Interesting to see somebody reading christian books that aren't given any other options in a jail or prison. I suppose it's what you do so. Christian non-fiction? I don't know what that means but that's cool.
I think the rounded spine on the new one makes it a bit thinner too
@@CobyMunsey good point!
Hey Chris, thanks for taking the time to do this comparison! Are you going to be looking at the new/redesigned ESV PSQ? I’ve got that one on the way and am excited about it. It looks like it may be the perfect “all in one” Bible.
Hi Timothy, yes. I should be receiving a new ESV PSQ in Saddle Brown Calfskin tomorrow and plan on shooting a video when I receive it.
