Can 100+ Guinea Pigs REALLY Mow Our Half Acre Blueberry Orchard?
Can 100+ guinea pigs really replace a mower in our half-acre blueberry orchard? In this video, we test a new mowing crate design, but things don’t go as planned. Join us on this rollercoaster and see the surprising result at the end of the experiment.

    Would electric netting with a solar charger work and protect the trunks of the blue berries and put random shelters out for pigs to hide and sleep? You probably thought of that.

    Hi guys, I really like your project. I am trying something similiar here in Thailand. At the moment we have 96 Khakis and more to come. We have a field with fruit trees and we let them free there every day for a couple of hours. Unfortunately we don't have a fence yet so we always need to watch them especially in regards to stray dogs that come for visit and like to catch a snack. Really annoying part.... Anyway, how many ducks do you have at the moment? You breed them all on your own? How and when do you sort out the old ones? In regards to food: Did you ever look at duck weed? Ours love to eat it and even though it's pretty simple to grow it's actually hard to get as much as they like to eat. Ours also love to eat Manjok leaves, but I am pretty sure this is difficult to grow in Wales. Are there any plant leaves you know they like to eat a lot?

    2x4 board on the back side. Use horse shoe nails. So the fence can flex up and down. Two old lawn mower wheels and two large nails to secure the wheels to connect the wheels two the 2x4. Boom not rocket science

    We kept pet guinea pigs when I was kid, one night they escaped from the large floorless moving cage/house they lived in, a couple of them hung around and we caught them but about 6 or 7 of them disappeared (we lived on a farm) a few months later we started seeing guinea pigs in a very dense area of bush in a steep rugged gulley not far from our house and garden, they bred and formed a feral colony there, we couldn't do much about it they were impossible to catch in the dense bush and rugged terrain.

    How about putting an empty cage next to the old cage and moving the guinea pigs from one to another? Just means an extra cage per row.

    Try doing something like this... Make one for girl side and one for boy side and place in an aisle in your blueberry orchard and let them loose during the day then place a cage inside at the end of the dome you can lock them in at night like a wire cage with wire bottom. So you don't have to worry about anything trying to dig underneath to try to get themth-cam.com/users/shortsq1GnSDuKIfc?si=E1DCQJfKuKTsyu13

    Still seems pretty labour intensive for something that could be done by a robot mower the initial investment stings a quite bit but it starts paying for it self by using electricity instead of petrol and not needing as much fertilizer. Also, don't they have problems with ticks?

    Make them a little bit more rigid , put a hunch in the far end that has a floor and a door the put a couple of push-bike wheels on the hutch end ,when you moove you shut the pigs in the hutch pick up the end without wheels and push or pull wherever you want ,I use the same design with slight mods for my rabbits and chickens , I ended up putting extension handles on the lift end .

    It was a very well made video - almost too professional - watch out for your precious time. Your life comes first, TH-cam second - and not the other way around if you want to survive mentally. Based on your facial expressions, it seems that you are struggling with your duties - a humorous approach can make the boring work fun so that you forget the long working hours. My advice for moving the animals is: "Move the animals through a tunnel from cage A to cage B". Once that is done, you can separate the emptied cage A and assemble it in front of the filled cage B for the next moving.

    Maybe get a solid tube of sorts thats heavy to guinea pigs and wind but molds to the ground to place around the fence once the fence is repositioned to block any potential exits.

    A 2'*4'*14' board. Two pitch forks attached to it. The 2*4 goes over the entire cage and the pitch forks engage with the cage. The 2*4 is attached to wheels that almost hit the back of the cage and the rear pitchfork is slightly ahead of these wheels. You can make a mechanism that slightly raised the 2*4, by pulling a yoke handle and this takes some lever arms: but is not absolutely necessary, then you go to the back end of the 2*4, and push down, lifting the cage up a bit, and roll the entire thing forward. The lever arm keeps the cage level, so no gap is provided for the critters to escape. Otherwise you attach a flexible skirt to the arm, that will provide a drifting edge hanging from the 2*4 while you move it. You can also attach a wheel to the front of the 2*4 just behind the forward pitchfork. This forward wheel would be used again with the lever action lift, and would make it simple to just use the 2*4 like a wheel barrow that comes and picks the cage up and easily moves it forward.

    • @williamcourtland5945
      @williamcourtland5945 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A built in drag sled would also make it easy to move: you place a tube on an angle on the side of the cage: push down two wooden rods connected together with a handle and pull the cage towards you, then simply drag the whole thing forward using the two edges of the wooden rods for a slight move: and then let the cage fall back into place. You could also make simple leverage tool that acts like a forked ski for the back end, while being pulled and lifted from the front. The forked ski would slightly pick up the back of the cage with leverage, and allow it to be pulled along. The tongs of the fork would need to also act like wedges, and be slightly hooked shaped: like a slight crowbar bend or hammer claw to allow a slight lift when the handle is brought down. The handle and the front of the cage would come close together, and you pull the cage while you pull along the fork and slide the entire works forward.

    Protect the plants you don't want them to eat, enclose the entire pasture and put plenty of hides around, but treats only at home. Then just let them breed and run free, most will run home each night for safety comfort warmth and treats, but expect some hawk predation.

    I think a "leapfrog" system might work. A second pen with gates that align. Open fresh pasture and maybe they will migrate on their own from one pen to the next. Then just close the gate and lift the now empty pen over? FYI, I have no experience with guinea pigs, this is more of a youtube brainstorm idea.
