Small turn of the century barns like ours didn't take machinery into account... I haven't figured out a back saving solution yet for mucking, unless you count delegating a younger person with a stronger back ;-)
Perhaps a shorter distance... wheelbarrow... Keeps you strong! Glad you have a taller barn for the other ducks so you can use machinery to remove the manure.

Indeed, the way they did it in the old days was to simply throw lofts of people at it. Many more people working in agriculture back then

I wonder if it possible to "farm" worms in duck manure, to decrease volume.
It feels like a unrefined idea.
