Hugo i see you have Elmarit how do you like itt? There is alson cheaoer Voigtländer 28/2 but im tempted on that Elmarit ( but its more expensive)
Hi my friend! The Elmarit 28 is great. I hear that it was developed for the M8. May be. The fact is that this lens are very good. Sharp, small, light. It fits the camera perfectly. I have no experience with this particular Voigtlander 28/2, but my 21 and 35 are incredible. And for a much better price.
Good to see you again 🙂
Thanks!
if anybody, then you resemble the spirit of M photography
Thank you. I read the comments you did to other comments in the video. And I appreciate all your knowledge about the subject and the brand. You look very disappointed with it. After reading them I was searching for the relationship between blackwater and Leica, and I culdn´t find anything. Seams two very different companies. Is very intriguing.
I was given an old digital camera by Olympus! CCD! Special card from Olympus! It has a feature to mend, delete, correct pixels that are faulty! I;ve use it once! 3 pixels.. Enjoy! Battery might be a problem. I wouldn't buy one, too costly! Colors are lovely.Kodachrome color! Yes sometimes wrong! Enjoy!
thanks for your comment. Is amazing. That the camera includes this option is mind-blowing. And a sign of how common the problem is. Olympus ccd sounds excellent. Enjoy it!!
Great to see you! The pictures are great. Nice composition and context. On Film is usually more dust than that little line 😂 Take care.
Hi Philip! Great to hear from you! Yes, film is another story, you know it very well 😉
I don´t have dead pixels on my M8 😊Great Camera 👌
Great news! One more reason to enjoy it! 😊
Such great color rendition with the M8s! It's very easy to forgive small signs of age. I'm also currently looking for a nice one.
I hope you find a good example. At a good price. Thanks for your comment.
@ I have enough time to find my perfect one. It will be my second digital M 🤗
If you send it into Leica they will fix it! Dead pixels usually show at higher iso or when shooting at night.
Thanks for your comment. Is good to know that Leica may fix it. By the other hand, I´m starting to like those lines, they are like a watermark...😉
All sensors are prone to this. Most modern cameras allow pixel remap by the user (at least my Olympus does) in the menu. To remap pixels on M8,M9 it needs to be send to Leica to do it. If you print your work those lines would be visible on the final print.
Mine had and fixed! Olympus! 2003?
like arsenic in a lab test :)
Hi, thanks for the comment! Very interesting. I read that is a common issue. But having a pixel remap in the menu (Olympus)... is amazing.
Hola hermano, I can confirm, being an owner of a very prominent Leica M9 since 2013 ( previously owned by a prominent Leica photographer and well known musician) that these lines also appear in the M9. I took it to Leica Los Angeles in 2014/2015 to have it fixed. They subsequently replaced the sensor at the time, due to it having the usual sensor corrosion issue, however the hot pixel lines (2 of them, JUST like yours) still remained. It was harder to detect at low isos, however remained there regardless. Before any one comments, it was sent to New Jersey, then Wetzlar. I then took it to Wetzlar again that December and they acknowledged it was a known issue across both M8/M9 sensors. By the way, my partners father worked in the projector department at Wetzlar / Solms, so we have a very Deep Relationship with Leica, as well as using their cameras commercially. Viel Glück mi amigo
if the lines remain in exactly the same place, ... then Leica just replaced the light blue Schott UVIR senor filter ( not the sensor ) Kolarivision is doing the same. Leica also had no idea what they were doing in terms of cleaning the filter in the M9 they also did not care to look into the Kodak 14n and DSLR/N or C disaster which had exactly the SAME PROBLEM ( I have 5 bodies in my camera trash pile ). They were just pushing sales due to Blackwater ( their US hedgefund backers ) to save the company .... just remember that at the base of wealth is always a crime ( that is why I no longer shoot Leica M after 36 years I can no longer feel proud of this company even or especially as a German ) P.S. the M11 has a BSI sensor = SONY
Hola hermano. What an interesting post! And what an interesting M9 you have. I read that with software is possible to hide this pixels, and that's the way usually companies do. But I have no personal experience on that. I will stay with my lines, as a watermark or identification sign 😉 Being your father a part of Leica, your story with the brand is deep. Lucky you! Hope to here more from your experience. And thanks for the comment!
I did my own video on this topic when I got my M8 and I think when an M8 hasn’t been used regularly these dead pixels can happen. When I reached out to Leica Germany they said: „Each image sensor has a certain number of defective pixels (light or dark). These are already determined individually during production, stored in the camera and automatically “masked out” when the photo is taken. However, if the defects only appear after production, for example due to other external influences such as high temperatures, cosmic radiation or long exposure times, they can become disturbing. In this case, we use specially developed software to eliminate the fissure defects.“ That being said luckily if the dead pixels annoys you Leica will do the software repair and the cost is around 200€, which is in my opinion alright. Unfortunately the repair time is quite long, but I excited to get my M8 back when the repair has been done. Your video got me excited about my M8 again, great job! :)
thank you for the info ... what batteries are you buying these days ?
@ when I bought mine used, it has 4 OG Leica batteries, which are still working so I haven’t checkt third party batteries yet
Hi my friend! Im glad you write. I saw your video, and it was very insightful, and it helped me to do mine. In fact, that's why I said that one of my two M8´s, the one with no lines, is always on. I heard the idea from you. Your video is the most interesting one about this subject I could find. Thanks for doing it. I hope you get back your camera soon!
I have the same issue on my M8. It has not stopped me from using it. My only issue is not finding a reliable backup battery.
I use eBay to find good OEM batteries. The other option is Cameron Sino (Chineese made, 3d party) which are not too bad
Hi, thanks for comment. I have a few batteries, but the not original tend to last less.
Of my two M8s one has it, but you can only see it if you underexpose a lot.
Interesting. Thanks. It seems that mostly show the face (lines) in some extreme situations.
Hello again Hugo, I hope you are well. Another very enjoyable, relaxing video with some lovely photos shown during it. I love your attitude to this issue, and you have demonstrated that it really isn’t something to get unduly worried about. Just go out and take photos! I don’t have an M8, but I do have an M9 (an M-E actually), and just love these ccd sensors. Best wishes for the festive season. Robin.
Thank you my friend, Im glad you like the video. Enjoy your M9, what a joy!
The only issues of the m8 is not having another battery to shot with. What a joy this tool is and what fun it is to use. Lovely to see a new video and more images from you. Your images are beautiful. Cheers.
Leica = has become a very unreLeiable company ( because of Blackwater it's US hedgefond backer )
Completely agreed. Is a joy. This kind of objects who is nice to have around. And also take quality pictures!
I had an m8.2 and was one of my favourite cameras. It had a similair line but it did not bother me one bit

Do you have an Instagram account?
True, one has to know when to not take pictures because also you are being a pain in the ass to your family but if I am somewhere where I should have taken the camera I get stomach ache. I think it is more of a decision of going to take pictures with a purpose. Just now I was trying to decide where in Barcelona should I go to take them. Will the place change if I don't take them... No. Will I change if I don't?. Maybe. You never know when you will take a ravishing picture and also I try to learn each time I get out, from taking pictures to being invisible or sadly to not get robbed. Saludos.
@@zettepix2009 I agree with all you say. We bought are in the same journey. Is a great challenge, a nice one. Be awake, and don’t let ourselves go mad taking pictures. Pay attention to our own mental movements… I wish you all the best. Saludos, amigo!
Your love and passion for photography is so genuine that it inspires me daily. It’s a gift from God, like your M8 and M9 Cameras. Photography can be a gift only God can give with some help from Leica…!

Hola Hugo! Beautiful images especially in black and white. I think the color images transforms the scene into a more mundane and typical scenario. The black and white can take the mundane and provide a more dramatic and interesting image, because it simplifies the mood. Your photos are always inspirational, and very thoughtful. On your recommendation and love of the M8, I bought one today (at a great discount) and will enjoy comparing to my M11. I would also like to see if your lenses are comparable to Leica lenses at the same focal length. You certainly bring out the best of all of your focal lengths. Keep experimenting my friend, you are teaching us all valuable lessons. Saludos de Michigan - Gracias, Fernando
Wau, thanks, Fernando. Your comment is a gift, and encourage me to keep going with the channel. I’m glad you like the video and the b&w images. It’s true, they transform reality in something more poetical, or special. Enjoy your new camera. I’m sure you will fall in love wit It. I hope they continue working for a long time
The M8 sensor was a Kodak CCD that was based on the colours / rendition of Kodachrome, and to be honest, it is closer than any pre-set I've seen. The same goes for the Epson RD-1 which is the camera I would go for if they weren't so expensive for a 5mp camera. I've recently become the proud owner of a Leica M6 Titanium, but luckily didn’t pay the full market price for it because it was a prize in the Leica Hunter Competitions prize draw a few months ago, but to be totally honest I would prefer a digital Leica, as it might get more use. An M8, M9, M10 or M11 would be nice, but again the prices are crazy.
Hi, thanks for your comment. When I bought my used M8, prices where a halve of todays market prices. And considering they are old digital cameras, I found it a beat too risky. Enjoy your M6, use it and develop a relationship with it. Is the best we can do.

As always great to hear from You! I often use my iPhone but in my mind I treat pictures from it worse than from my Leicas. Even if picture is interesting, something is not letting me believe that it’s „real photography”. I know, it’s stupid, but I can’t switch it off in my head ;)

Muy buen video! Tengo una LX5 (muy similar a la LX3) y concuerdo en todo lo que mencionaste, es una cámara muy cómoda para llevar en situaciones cotidianas.
Great video, did you use a filter with all the M8 pictures? It would be great to have an M8 with no filter vs M9 in an all-b&w shoot out 😊
Great video. Please make more on the m8.
Thanks
What happened to your cron?
I change it for a M8 body. And later I bought a cron again :-)
I was really surprised how wonderful the colors and the contrast was on M8 photos. I wonder if it was still something in the settings.. M9 had some very sharp rendering and great clarity, but based on these example pictures (ceteris paribus) I would have chosen the M8.
Hi. for me was also a surprise when comparing for the first time the files. In general the M8 produce more pleasant colors directly from camera. M9 images sometimes are a beat greenish, but you can correct the WB and get a good result. Personally, I like the m8 DNG´s more.
@@myleicam8546 thank you for the reply! it is a great video and comparison!!
