2024 Tundra SR5 TRD Off Road Review (2,000 Mile)
1. OTT tune 2. Gears. 4.56 if needed 3. If needed Magnuson Worth doing all this and drive it for 200k miles. Geed it oil often. Track the tranny temp for assurance.
It's exactly the 4runner I want. I hope i can get a similar one.
22 Capstone Hybrid, 45K miles - Don't ask me what I paid for my truck (it was too much), but I absolutely love it, air ride is so smooth, head up display, electric door steps, plush leather, heated and cooled seats, just really nice to drive, and I drive 75 miles to work one way 2-3 times a week. I don't see a lot of the problems you have except for the following: the engine light came on 2 weeks after the fuel tank recall work was completed. Code came back as fuel leak in the charcoal fuel canister, I thought it would be remedied by dealer but they claim it wasn't related and refused to cover. Part is $991 plus $580 in labor. I feel slighted, I've never heard of a charcoal canister going out at 45k miles, or just ever.
I have a 21 ORP 4Runner and notice something looking for clarity on. On my cargo side windows on 4runner with lines/etches.. do you know if they are radio or heating elements? Can they be replaced without lines?
@@ryanjcoon1 They are heating elements for the defrosted. I'm not sure if you can replace them without lines, probably not.
I have a 2022 Barcelona Red Metallic. It has 3 different paints in there. I just turned 10K. Its not my everyday driver. But no chips. Plus we do long drives. I have done a few 12 hour drives on bad highways with a lot of trucks. Been good so far as far as paint chips on the hood. Yes I have done PPF.
You did good and you did the right thing. There will never be another vehicle like it again I don't think. We got a 23 PRO because I wanted one of these before they ruined them. Could not be happier with it and plan to keep it until I die or we all run out of gas.
That’s a really cool trailer. I appreciated the walkthrough. Makes me want to get one. Of course, I hope to see you use it here in your channel!
Thanks! I take it out about once or twice a month, so I'll definitely be posting more content with it.
Coll.lil trailer. My "personal" heartburn with most overland type trailers is cooking outside. I do fall/winter/spring camping. IE: Not the best weather. A self contained is the best setup for me.
Thanks for the comment. Cooking outside can definitely be a challenge for sure, especially in inclement weather. For when that happens, an induction cooktop can be used using the inverter. They’re like $80 for a quality one.
I bought a 2024 4Runner too. I originally wanted the Tacoma, but there were many reasons why I ended up choosing the 4Runner. I'm very happy with my purchase. Oh and yes, the paint sucks.
8 months later, how are the engines in these things? i wanna get a platinum version of this truck as i love toyota, but i havent been hearing alot of pretty stuff about the v6, so just curious on what do you honestly think about the engine and how many problems have came across so far 8 months after this was posted?
I ended up getting rid of the truck after a few months of ownership. I had over 10 different issues that I also made videos about.
I have 2024 ORP with 5000 miles. I have some orange peeling in the paint. Not that noticeable unless you look for it. This truck is solid and I think the 2024's will be the most valuable down the road, especially considering cars in general are becoming much less reliable and junk quality. But I'm going to do something to protect that hood for sure.
my 2022 ORP seems to only get better as I drive it. Yes low milage I have. Just 10K.
12mpg...my 07 Tundra get a little better with the 5.7 v8 4 door 8 ft bed.
Suggest to use Dr Colorchip process to fix rock chips. Rock chips are part of car ownership.
Plz toyota stop putting light gray head liners in off road vehicles. You drive with the back hatch glass down boom dirty. Oh and for 60 glfor my 24 pro it should have 3 things. Memory seats, cooled seats and a power hatch. For the love of god. I miss my 14 Escalade it had everything.
I traded my 21 trd orp we bought new with 30k miles for our 24 Pro in that color. Best move you can make.
I have a 24 4Runner TRD ORP and I have 19k miles on it, admittedly I’ve been driving the he’ll out of it, camping trips, off roading and I always get compliments on it. I have the new one year clay gray color, it’s been a great experience having it.
Toyota dropped the ball moving away from the 5.7. You're better off with the 4Runner. I only buy J vin Toyota’s
Another entitled millennial who didn't do his research before buying a truck.
Haha. Thanks for watching.
I got a 2023 TRD pro Tacoma with 4,750 miles after 1-1/2 years. Did my first oil change at 3,500 miles. Love this truck so far. Last of v6 Tacoma
Make sure you change the oil every 5 k miles
The new SR5 is priced decently for the upgrades but anything else is a total rip-off. Plus with the 20 percent tariffs that are coming current prices are a bargain. Try to buy a car this summer. prices going 🚀
I will say dealerships are back to how they use to be, which is kinda nice when shopping, they have every make and model for you to look at and try out like they use to. So they are selling, its just back to normal, but its not like covid where everywhere was out of stock all the time. But having bought a 5th gen 4runner recently, I will say, you just don't see them on the lots, brand new ones get snagged up before they even hit the lot most of the time. Used ones don't stay there very long. Which is why they hold their value, people snag them up and then hold on to them. Because they are probably the last well built and last 500k mile with minimal problems type vehicle sold ever again. But dealerships are just back to their normal inventory levels again.
Nah, certainly not when it comes to high populated cities. I’ll believe this comment if it’s a small town, but a major city its not back to normal. 😂 they shave off 20 grand of some vehicles, then it will be back to normal overall.
@Anomize23 well yeah but the amount of vehicles on the lot are back to normal. The discounts aren't yet though. Which means they're not hurting that bad!
Door handles seems plastic to me
Hey brother great vids. I have a 24 in silver and I love it. Your videos pushed me to get one over a tundra. Throw a screen protector on the stereo screen and it clears up a lot. I was bummed about how bad the screen looked when I got it but now I couldn’t ask for anything more
Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
I brought my 2024 ORP in to the dealer at 1,800 miles for break in oil change. that should be a must. They won't tell you that.I wanted to do it it at 1k, but you know...life
Aso, I have a 2017 tacoma TRD off road and the classic J shift on the 4runner is way better than the dial on my tacoma hands down. My Tacoma is Texas made.
My 2014 Black trail premium 4R 95k miles has a few rock chips on the valance, but the body paint is like new and smooth, I buff it every other year or so. And no problems
My 2024 Tacoma Limited has been a great vehicle! It has 12,000 miles with no problems! I think the quality is very good! I am really happy with my pickup & I haven’t had any issues at all!
Cool video! I agree, huge difference in quality, one aspect on 6th gen 4Runner, is they are still built in Japan, so we’ll see if they differ from the Mexico built Taco in quality…Your about 5k ahead of me in miles, on my trd orp. Keep making your cool videos bro!! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
Same to you, amigo, and thanks for watching!
I'm holding out for the 7th Gen, 2 cylinder, twin turbo. The gas mileage is gonna be great!
😂
It will be interesting to see what the quality of the interior will be like as these new 6th Gen’s will still be made in the famed Tahara plant. The source materials should be Japan and not North America like the Tacomas.
I should be getting my hands on one for review as soon as they roll into dealerships. I'll keep y'all posted!
You can't find any new 5th gen 4 runners in Socal. I've been looking for one.
Same here in Texas.
Modern Toyotas are overpriced and disposable. Glad to have my 21' Tundra Plat and wife's 24' 4R ORP
So happy I got my 23 ORP 4 Runner a year ago in anticipation of lesser quality 6th Gen. loving the tried and true old schoolness of the 5th Gen. enjoying your channel!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Had a 23 in black and now a 24 in underground both trd offroad prems. Paint chips are a prob for both. Apple car play glitches with newer iphones for some reason happened on both trucks. Dealing with a rattle in the dash on the 24, but it’s only when it’s cold out. Love the 5th gen.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Curious about your rattle in the cold. Is it in the dash over the glove box by chance? I had someone else mention that.
I’m rather embarrassed to say my 6 mo old SR5 Premium just turned over 2k miles. A real garage queen, but that will end soon when it’s driven out to our place in Tahoe as our sole vehicle there. I’ve appreciated your updates!
I guess I’m even more embarrassed my 2024 TRD PRO 4Runner we have just turned one years old on 12-14-24 since we bought her has 1800 miles on it I guess she’s just a real garage princess 👑. Lol …
Thanks for the update...I think you are spot on. In addition to your observations, a big turnoff for me is the new drivetrain. 4cyl turbo setup is not a 500,000 mile vehicle.
Yep, the power train is a big turn off for me as well. I will probably do a full review of the Tacoma soon so y'all can get a feel for the driving impressions. But just sitting in one, you can tell it's not built to last. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I was waiting for your 10k review.. I’m gold that you’re happy with your 4Runner and problems free!
It's good to see that you're keeping information about your personal finances just that "personal"... The tried and true 4runner the "salt of the earth" in the automotive world!!! The new Tacoma is the summation of America today very much disposable.... See you in the next one!!!
Personally, I'd rather have real gauges instead of a screen with pictures of gauges and an old fashioned port-injected V6 instead of a dual-injected, turbo, hybrid 4 cylinder and the center console takes up too much cabin space in the new Toyota trucks.
FrontRunner SlimSport (SKU: KSTF002T) is an awesome roof rack in case you want to put a RoofNest tent on it with quick release latches. Quick release allows you to get the tent off easily when not in use.
We love our 2023 Dinosaur. Give me old school!
I go by the same concept in my gx470. Except I have to remove the back seat raw and slap pre built plywood platform to fill the gap. Not raised. It actually makes the truck lighter
The last of old-school good. Send one this way please
I own a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. If you take out the second and third row seats you have a perfectly flat surface and tons more storage space. I have a bed that fits the entire floor surface and it folds into a couch when not in use so that eliminates my need to build a platform. It’s basically a bigger 4Runner. With the 2UZFE I get a fairly reliable V8 and 4WD. Only downside is the gas mileage. Averaging 12-18 mpg is pretty brutal, but she’s got 320,XXX miles and is still as lively as ever! Look into the 1st and 2nd gen Sequoias if you’re 6ft or taller, you’ll definitely have more than enough room to stretch out your legs lol. Forgot to add that the 1st and 2nd gen’s have a rear window that you can roll down just like the 4Runner
You should have waited and bought the new 6th gen coming out. 5th gen is outdated, slow, and only thing it really has is reliability. The new one will be just as reliable.
Nah, I'll take this reliable dinosaur over any new Toyota any day.
@ Spoken like a true 5th gen owner. They all have a hard time letting go.
I'm holding out for the 7th Gen, 2 cylinder twin turbo. The gas mileage is gonna be great!
I put a plastic folding table from Wal-Mart in the back to level it out. With an air mattress over it, it works perfectly.
I have the Yakima Road Warrior roof basket on my 2023 TRD ORP....really like it. I also took out the seat bottoms of the back seats so the back supports fold flat. I'm 5' 11" too.
Maybe a tripod would be helpful 😊
I bought a Sherpa Crestone about a year ago for my 5th gen and really like it, I don't have previous experience with any other roof racks so not a true comparison, but I like that their stuff was using a higher quality aluminum and slightly thicker side panels. I recommend waiting for the Black Friday sales, I think mine was just under $1200.
Awesome, thanks!
I have the Sherpa Crestone on my ‘22 ORP, like it a lot and recommend it. Very good quality and no drilling required. I installed it fairly easily by myself but it would have been easier with a helper.
