A lot of this holds true to the culture I grew up in and my gods has it been rough to see it for what it is. This week has been full of unpacking. I always wondered what the yellow snake flag flying above our house meant, and as a child simply just thought it was that- my family's cool snake flag. My diet was outside of my control, and if it wasn't organic or made from scratch in our kitchen it wasn't going anywhere near us. My mom was convinced she could cure us of ourselves.

A remark on the idea that the vaccine came out so quickly so it must be not real conspiracy - we had a kitten that we rescued in 2017 that unfortunately passed within a few months of us adopting her. She died of FIP, feline infectious peritonitis, which is an autoimmune response caused by a mutated form of… coronavirus! When we got the diagnosis, our vet told us that there was some research being done on the disease and that there was an effective treatment option, but it was being produced by one lab in China, and unfortunately it was super expensive, and even more unfortunately, there was another lab trying to replicate the treatment that was not always getting in right, so we could spend $10000 and then get sent something that didn’t work. Alas our kitty likely wouldn’t have made it long enough to even wait for the meds to arrive from China even if we had the money, so we had to put her to sleep. But the point of all of this is, there was already research and treatment and vaccines that existed. And yes, it was a different strain of coronavirus, ie not -19, and the treatments and such were for dogs and cats, but that means that scientists weren’t starting from scratch with developing a vaccine for humans for covid-19, they were adapting the research and treatments that already existed from one strain to another, and tweaking for a different species, so starting much further past the start line than these conspiracy theorists propose

To be fair to y2k, there was a lot of work done to *prevent* the damages that the rollover to the new year would cause. But it was such a massive endeavor undertaken by so many people that most people did not notice anything. Some computers did not get updated beforehand and did have some problems, but the big important stuff, like banks, updated their code in time to not have people suddenly get 100 years' worth of interest added onto their accounts. We can thankfully look back on it as an "overreaction" because it was handled so well. I mean, remember when a whole bunch of systems went down somewhat recently due to a patch being autoinstalled and it causing blue screens? A lot of companies put a decent amount of effort in to try to prevent things like that from happening.

I'm a vegan and I hate crunchy ppl tbh. In my experience vegans are one of two ways: hippies or philosophybros. I fit a lot better into the latter category. It's discouraging to meet other vegetarians and find they're anti-vax, anti-GMO, views about the natural world informed by alt-spirituality, etc. In my opinion they're just anti-science. And yes, it was sad to watch them slowly fall down the pipeline during the Trump era. If I have my way the vegan community will be much more oriented towards analytic philsophy than woowoo going forward. Sorry Bryony but that's just how I feel

A few years ago i fell down the 🍕gate illuminati free mason reptilian rabbit hole because i'm very open minded and really into spirituality and the occult, the only reason i got out of that sane, is because i never fucked with the alt-right dog whistles, like if it's the elite that's the problem, then why did they always focused on democrats or liberal polititians and celebrities, why did they talked nicely about Trump? 🤢 i am so leftist that i'm a hippie, so i knew what my political opinion was and it couldn't be swayed. But i think that's the reason the algorithms are so dangerous, they kinda tell you what to think so if you flirt with the wrong content for a couple days and you're not sure what you believe in you're screwed.

Late to the party on this, but it took me awhile to be able to sit down to watch this... I lost my best friend to this. And it still hurts. We've known one another since the womb. Our moms went to prenatal classes together... And years ago, when he got together with a mutual friend, I thought they made a great couple. Both highly empathetic, both good people... But after the panic and trauma of a car accident with one of their siblings that resulted in a life altering brain injury, and the birth of their first child, things started to change with them. They went vegetarian, then vegan, and then... I dunno... My friend had always had a passing interest in conspiracy, but more in a "let's get messed up on the weekends and talk about aliens and shit" kind of way, rather than seriously... And then that particular documentary came out, and he changed... We were having a discussion on the Covid vaccine, and that's when it came out. While not entirely anti-vax in general at the time, he was dead against it... He was also supporting the trucker protest in Ottawa, which baffled me, as broadly speaking the trucker protest was not composed of truckers. It was composed of people who owned trucking and other associated companies... And so I talked with him about it, took him seriously, didn't dismiss him, and then he said "and I don't care if anybody else thinks less of me for it." ... And that hurt. I replied that I was sad to hear how resolute he was in his mind, because I have always held his opinion in the highest regard, and I was sorry that we disagreed. I asked him to send me the links to his evidence (supposed documentaries). He never did. Probably because while I thought I knew him, he knows me well, and knew I would look into that evidence, and most likely tear it apart... He didn't want the counter argument and facts, because he knows I would have presented them to him... He won't reply to me now. We still are friends on social media, but I'm pretty sure he has me muted... I miss my friend. He was my first friend, some of my earliest memories are with him, and if he came to me and needed help, I would still help... It makes me sad how otherwise good people are manipulated this way.

TERFs don’t necessarily deny the existence of trans people; they question the concept of gender or for many reasons they don't feel the spaces can be shared, or other things... Is it really that hard to understand that for some women, the traumatic experience of being women in this world makes it difficult to comprehend that there are biologically male individuals who are women and who now must share spaces with them? Is it really so hard to understand that many women, for many reasons, valid or not, may find this very hard to accept? Besides, let’s understand that any differing opinion is immediately labeled as TERF.. Gender is a social construct, but being male or female (sex) is not-those are biological realities,at least for me. What society has built around that, however, is not real. A cis woman, for obvious reasons, wouldn’t demand access to trans women spaces. Many grouos of people are victims of patriarchy, but we have entirely different struggles, with some shared ones. However, trans women do demand access (though not all) to all the spaces cis women have created. I understand that this can be uncomfortable-I've personally experienced uncomfortable situations with trans women (Which I haven’t experienced with cis women at all, because we are socialized in different ways) It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a woman your entire life in the wrong body; if you were socialized as a man, the way we were raised is very different, and that deeply affects who we are amnd behave - that is a fact, it doesn't make anyone less worthy, but a bit of self awareness? please What makes me angry is the hatred directed at TERFs. Why? Because they are women, and women are expected to be caring, understanding, nurturing, welcoming-to put everyone else’s needs before their own. And if they don’t, they are labeled bad women and we must go after them. The hatred toward TERFs is akin to a witch hunt. These are women who do not behave as society expects them to-in their historically assigned role as caregivers. So, they must be pursued and punished. People: many groups and individuals don’t accept trans people, including various minorities, and yet I don’t see them receiving even half the hatred There are so many examples of when a woman doesn't behave 'the way she should' and how society reacts by canceling her, and this is the same, just because they are women. I’ve seen lesbian women being called TERFs because they aren’t attracted to women with penises. Thet call it ‘genital preference’ Didn’t we already agree that sexual orientation isn’t just a preference? but now it is a preference again? How many years did the queer community fought to make people undertand this and now we are back at the idea that it is a preference? I support the idea of women defendjng their intimacy and making sure they find partners that respect, care, and wont vote their rughts away the minute its convenient, but I dont like the idea of weaponizing sex, from any gender. We have sex the way we want, and that's great, but making it into a metaphorical cookie that's taken away from a child when theyre misbehaving is weird. No one is entitled to sex, and no one is entitled to weaponizing it either. I want to continue having sex with my bf and, in a few years, get married, but I don't want others to think it means I'm no longer a feminist, a bisexual person, or even my own person. We can't gatekeep something so basic without there being dire consequences, like shaming, exclusion, and isolation. We need to lean more to the intersectional feminist way to make any progress. Because if we address that sex is also related to gender, religion, where you live, patriarchal studies of sex and reproductive organs, and countless other things, we won't make progress on anything. There isnt much in life that isn't at all influenced by at least a few other things. We need to leave space for that and empathy.

I'm a man and would like to correct a mistake in this video. Men don't avoid the doctor to avoid admitting weakness... We avoid going to the doctor because we're scared the doctor is gonna say we have to get a shot because they hurt... I assume this is also why the right is scared of vaccines 🤷
