Coolant Pump Failure! Replacing the coolant pump and thermostat in a 2015 Porsche Macan S / Turbo
In this video, I share my experience replacing the coolant pump and thermostat of my 2015 Porsche Macan S. I accomplish this replacement without having to place the Macan in service mode.
A few years back, the thermostat failed (it recorded a fault and disabled auto start/stop... heating would take a long time to warm air).
At the time, I just replaced the thermostat. But to replace the thermostat, as you will see, one needs to remove the pump. I made the mistake of not replacing the pump and now I'm paying the price...

Finally, I figured it out! I modified the Diamond Button SW Control for my FYT 12.3 Android unit
มุมมอง 681หลายเดือนก่อน
The 12.3" Android unit does not allow to customize steering wheel controls, as it is an FYT 7862 unit using CanBus. All steering wheel controls are hence hard coded. But there is a way to intercept this signal using 3rd party developed middleware and make it do something else in the unit. In this video, I detailed the instructions on how to do this using the FytHWOneKey.apk app. Relevant Links:...

      @@user-tw9pw6hc9oI’m not sure if there is any quality difference. Febi, in my experience, sells high quality products, so I have no concerns. But to truly answer your question, it will require more research. I don’t always use Febi. There are other brands that are very good as well. I just like the convenience of buying my parts at FCPEuro, especially with their lifetime replacement warranty.

      @@lalala12345678900987 The filling capacity I show in the video is the dry filling capacity (4.1L), so it will take less oil when you are actually changing the oil. As long as you used the filling methodology I show (waiting some time in between short fills) and then seeing oil coming out of the fill port, you should be fine because the oil should be at appropriate level. If you are concerned, drive it for a while, then open the fill port and check if oil is still coming out. If not, fill again until it comes out… it should not take that much oil at that time.

    Another great video. Thank you for your contribution to the macan community. There is something I would like to bring up regarding oil leaks. As you know the main culprit on the macans when it comes to oil leaks is tc bolts. However, I noticed caked oil below 3 of the cam sensors. These are also called vvt solenoids. There are a total of 4 (2 per bank). Apparently the seals on these vvt cam sensors go bad. Is not noticeable since it’s more of seepage not a leak. I went ahead and replaced all 4 seals and cleaned up the caked oil surrounding these sensors. Something to check on your macan.

To test, you need to release e-brake and put in reverse. If that doesn’t work, you need to go into settings (hidden menu) and make sure you select the right camera configuration. Your statement seems to contradict itself… can you please explain what you mean, in technical terms, and what is the information you are using to draw your conclusions? But, isn’t that the whole purpose of Sport Plus to begin with? The hack is just a way to activate Sport Plus (the real sport plus, not some fake sport plus… this can be confirmed by the ability of the Macan to activate launch control, which is a feature only present with sport chrono/sport plus). Sport Plus does change the throttle dynamics and ECU mapping in the Macan to accomplish the more aggressive response you describe. The only thing that is not activated with this hack is the PCM/MFD sport chrono functions. The rest of the sport chrono functions, and what I would say is the most important which is the activation of sport plus and launch control, is activated with this hack. This is in the video description (copied here for your convenience).. Try this to see if it works. If you have a timeout try running this command with a Terminal application (you can download a terminal app from the Google store) "setprop service.adb.tcp.port 5555" it will enable ADB listening on port 5555 then restart If the issue persist, open your config.txt and add the following line "service.adb.tcp.port=5555", then copy the config.txt and LSEC files into a FAT32 formatted usb drive and connect it to the USB data port. Let it install and then reboot. This should take care of the issue. When I replaced the two timing chain bolts for the first time, it continued leaking (although less) after. The leak was coming through the new bolt thread. I decided to get high temperature thread sealant from a local Autozone. Removed the bolt, added the sealant to the threads, and reinstalled/retorqued. Waited 24 hours, and then tested again. To this day (3 or 4 years after) no leak. On the other question, I have only experienced some low level sweating of the valve cover gasket. Not enough to be considered a leak. I cleaned it and it hasn’t come back. So I left it alone. This is not as common as the timing chain cover leak, but it happens. Thanks for your kind words and for your support!

    Great videos. I have a situation with my 17 macan gts that I haven’t been able to resolve since I bought it a year ago. The ac blows a weird smell only for the first few seconds after the vehicle is turned on. This has me puzzled. I’ve used evap foam cleaner and spayed disinfectant with no luck. No coolant leak detected. The ac blows cold air. However, a few days ago I was about to do an oil change myself (thanks to you). The vehicle had been parked overnight and I proceeded to put it on ramps. I immediately noticed water dripping below the tc area. Keep in mind the vehicle was cold after being parked overnight. It made me wonder if the hvac system has a valley where water accumulates and this may be causing the foul smell. Or maybe water was just sitting on the belly pan. Do you happen to know the exact location for the hvac drains? Are these visible from under the vehicle? Thanks in advance for your help and for making great videos.

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@1000raulm This is a good observation. You may be correct in which there may be a dead leg or spot inside the evaporator which not allow full drainage. This is a common issue in high mileage Macans. It happened with mine. I basically inundated the evaporator with Klima cleaner to be able to get rid of the odor. The drain tubing I believe comes out towards the side of the transmission/transfer case…. Passenger side. That general area. But maybe if you take the cabin filter out, you could explore the drain area with a borescope. I’ll do that next time I’ll replace the cabin filter.

      Thanks for replying. I’ve read of many people experiencing the same issue with their hvac but no one has been able to figure out what’s causing the problem. I’m almost certain the water I saw dripping came out of the hvac. I’m sure water drips on the tc belly pan, but it should evaporate overnight specifically since it drips on the heat shield. Resolving this mystery will help many macan owners out there. BTW: can the evaporator foam cleaner be sprayed also through the upper vents? Thanks again.

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@1000raulm I opened the filter housing and removed the cabin filter. Then attached the sprayer straw/tubing to the tip of my borescope so that I could see what I was doing inside. I put a towel on the floor mat to collect spills. Introduced the borescope with the straw(tubing) until I was able to see the heat exchanger and then started spraying like crazy. I emptied 2 cans. Then I let it drain for a few minutes, and then turned AC on high for about 15 minutes. Then reinstalled cabin filter and close the lid. I was able to see foamy water draining through the drain at the bottom of the car. This is what I used: a.co/d/eBnSOzf I would not recommend introducing the foam via the vents. No guarantee that you will clean the actual heat exchanger. The way I did it was very effective and the odor hasn’t returned yet after over a year. You could also introduce a bit of antibacterial Lysol into the AC intake which is located on the cowl. That doesn’t help as much… in my case odor would return in a matter of weeks using this method.

    I completed the job this weekend. By far the hardest part were the 4 bolt on the backside of the bearing. No matter what I did I could not get a good grip on them. TIP: TAKE A HAMMER AND TAP YOUR TRIPPLE SQUARE INTO THE BOLT. THIS WILL ASSURE THAT IT IS SEATED CORRECTLY BEFORE TRYING TO LOSEN IT. Needless to day, I ended up taking the whole knuckle off before I learned that lesson. ALSO, I did not take care of the axle boot. I ended up pinching the rubber axle boot and when I got everything back together, it was dripping grease. I then had to buy a used axle and repeat the entire process again to get the axle out. Hi. Thanks for your question. Technically, it doesn’t matter. If you only have Sport and Sport+ (and BTW, I think PSM is standard, so you would have that as well). What would happen is that the 3 first buttons of your keypad will work, with the last two doing nothing. The signal is sent by the order in the keypad, no matter what it says in the label. So I can technically use my new keypad with the 5 buttons, and assign only 4 functions. If that is the case, I would lose sport+ which is the second button, and that button would now be chassis, etc… with the last button on the keypad being nonfunctional. So, the buttons in the keypad are just buttons. The functionality of these buttons is stored in the module.
