The monument in this video was built by Colonel Kuser to honor NJ war veterans. A private citizen built this. The monument and entire park were then gifted to the people of NJ at Kusar’s death. 14,000 acres. Unfortunately, NJ let Kusar Mansion, also gifted to NJ, fall into disrepair. Sad. NJ should have leased the mansion out to a private company to operate a B&B. But then again, government can’t do anything right.

I'm retired Air Force now 0:13 but I love to watch navy videos because my father was USNA '34. So very proud of him.

Hats off to you new Navy officers. Love those dress whites. You have a tough but rewarding 30 years ahead of you. May you retire as at rear admiral or better.

Great video I am retired now but this brings back lots of memories while I did not attend Annapolis you never forget that day you received your commission and first salute. Good luck ensign and in two short years mom and dad can put on your LT(jg) shoulder boards.

I’ve been following Sean’s journey through these videos. I also feel tremendously proud of Ensign Sean even though I’ve never met him. I send him blessings as he begins his commission and next step in his life journey.

Was on the yard a couple months after this for 25th reunion. The time sure does fly.

Got both goosebumps and tears in my eyes watching this. I've never met Ensign Lee, but MAN am I proud of him. Our country is in good hands because of men and women like him.

When you get to your assignment put it in your subconscious that you want to do something for other people without it being known that you did it. A bombastic attitude will not help you out. In general best to say as little as possible. When you go to your assignment for the first three to six weeks, observe before you get into the swing of it. Never say that anyone is stupid even if the person is not there that you're saying it about. Not being so well educated is a sensitive issue with enlisted and they can sense that you feel that way and they won't help you out if you think that way about him or her. A good portion of the enlisted come from dysfunctional families. So try to make each person feel he or she is intelligent without saying it directly. Never make a snide remark. A sailor or fellow officer will realize you have positive attitude about them and will support you thereafter. One or two of the people is crazy and you have to identify them, and see the best way to handle that situation. Reading autobiographies of all time great officers will help you exceedingly. Especially if you read such books out loud to yourself.

Lots of changes. We were in civilian clothes when we were sworn in.... except the few of us that were Enlisted Men when we entered USNA. No women in the Class. After 81 years, the lyrics of the Alma Mata, Navy Blue and Gold, were changed in 2004. Looks like the Severn River is still there! Congrats but take my advice. Listen to your E5s-chiefs. Believe it not they will have more real world experience than you. Don't come in like most academy grads being hot shit.

3:42 brings it all home… those are the lighted placards of all the Midshipmen who’ve been killed in action, inside of Memorial Hall, inside of Bancroft Hall… And above that is the Perry Flag flown for Capt Lawrence aboard USS Chesapeake in the Battle of Lake Erie 1813… Memorial hall is maintained by the midshipmen only! God Bless America!!!!
