  • First family camping trip in 15 years! We had an awesome time camping at Worthington State Forest and hiking the trails on Mt. Tammany (www.njportal.c....
A few thoughts, ideas and/or comments to pass along in case they are useful to you:
For those just wanting a glimpse of the camp site (Chapter 1) and/or hiking (Chapters 3-5), please skip to the designated chapter times per the below:
Chapter 1: Waiting for the Sun (camp set up and location - 0.25 minute mark)
Chapter 2: Soup's On (camp fire and food - 1:20 minute mark)
Chapter 3: Mountain View (Red Dot Trail - Mt. Tammany - 3:20 minute mark; observation lookout - 5:30 minute mark)
Chapter 4: On Wings of Eagles (Red Dot Trail - Mt. Tammany 6:25 minute mark, more secluded observation point - 6:50 minute mark; Blue Dot Trail - Mt. Tammany 7:12 minute mark)
Chapter 5: Mountain Splash (Water Feature - 7:46 minute mark)
Chapter 6: Blessed (8:32 minute mark)
    Also:
    1. Overall, the camp sites at Worthington State Forest are well maintained and clean. Some of the sites are close together, near the camp roads and/or wide open, so definitely do your research if you are looking for more privacy and seclusion from the other campers. Our site (#20) was wide open, but as it was mid-week when we went, it wasn't an issue for us.
    2. The drinking water situation seemed a little sketch...so be safe and just bring your own.
    3. The primitive restrooms / port-o-potties were decently clean for what they are - kudos to the park rangers and workers for this! Same goes for the showers...but, don't expect the Ritz Carlton...you are camping after all!
    4. The hiking trails we tackled on Mt. Tammany (red and blue dot) are decently challenging - lots of rocks. But, the views are amazing and it is well worth the trek up to the various observation areas. Also, we took the blue dot trail back down which is not as scenic per se, but you do get to pass by some cool water features near the end and it was just as fun.
Hope you get a chance to explore this area!

Thanks Yuriy! The area is on the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the U.S. (Mt. Tammany and Worthington State Forest). Definitely a beautiful place if you ever get a chance to visit. I just checked out your recent video…awesome! Clearly we can all learn some bush craft from you. Keep it up!
