  • Hard to believe our son’s (Sean G. Lee; @seanlee8163) dream to attend #usna / #navalacademy has come and gone. It seems like only yesterday that we dropped you off in Annapolis as a 17 year old to start your journey as a #plebe. And four quick years later, through COVID, the highs and lows of N*ot college life, learning how to become an officer / #ensign and leader, and pushing yourself every step of the way - you persevered…you stepped up…and you met every challenge head-on and then some. Congrats on #graduating and #commissioning as an officer of the #usnavy .
    So very#proud of you, your friends (y’all know who you are and you guys rock!) and the graduating #classof2023 as you embark on the next chapter of your respective journey in service to our country. Fair Winds and Following Seas! Love ya!

    Congratulations Ensign. I started my Army career at 17, and retired 21 years later and I can say you’re in for an amazing adventure. Savor every moment. Enjoy the highs, and don’t forget to Solder-On through the lows too. Because one day, in the distant future, you’ll remember all of it with fondness and pride. I wish you, and your classmates God speed and safe travels. ~ CW4 “Chief”

    3:42 brings it all home… those are the lighted placards of all the Midshipmen who’ve been killed in action, inside of Memorial Hall, inside of Bancroft Hall… And above that is the Perry Flag flown for Capt Lawrence aboard USS Chesapeake in the Battle of Lake Erie 1813… Memorial hall is maintained by the midshipmen only! God Bless America!!!!

    Lots of changes. We were in civilian clothes when we were sworn in.... except the few of us that were Enlisted Men when we entered USNA. No women in the Class.
    After 81 years, the lyrics of the Alma Mata, Navy Blue and Gold, were changed in 2004.
    Looks like the Severn River is still there!
    Oh, did I mention no women? lol

    Congratulations! My son is attending the Air Force Academy, naturally, we don't know how the Navy works. While watching your video, I noticed during the graduation ceremony, the Navy and the Marines cadets took the oath at different time. What is the reason for it? Are they not all part of the military family?

    • @ProudPapaLee
      @ProudPapaLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and congrats to you and your son as well for attending the Air Force Academy. As to your question, I’m hoping someone more knowledgeable than me will provide a more accurate answer, but I believe they have separate Oaths of Office because they are commissioning in ‘different’ service arms of the military and have different officer ranks - for those midshipmen going to the Marines, they are commissioned as 2nd Lt., while those joining the fleet are commissioned as Ensign. Perhaps it’s simpler than that and is based on history and ceremonial reasons so I certainly stand to be corrected. All the best to your son and thank him for his service!

      That’s a great idea. I just don’t know if I have the capabilities and resources to give it the justice it deserves. Perhaps best I leave it to the professionals to do what you suggest, but thanks so much for the idea!

    why are there some graduates in a darker color uniform? and sitting down while those in white was standing up and taking in the oath

    • @ProudPapaLee
      @ProudPapaLee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. I’m not sure if I have the actual uniform names correct, but those midshipmen in the ‘darker’ colored uniforms (or Dress Blues) are commissioning as Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Those in the Dress Whites are commissioning as Ensigns in the Navy. The Marines had a separate Oath of Office just prior to the Navy Oath of Office (where they were standing with their right hands raised, while the others were seated)…I just didn’t film and include it in this video. Certainly no disrespect to the newly minted 2nd LT. as we are just as proud of them as we are with the new Ensigns. In fact, many of our son’s closest friends commissioned as Marine officers and we love ‘‘em all!
