  • Highlights from a #usna #classof2023 parent’s experience during #CommissioningWeek.
For those looking to view just a snapshot of Commissioning Week, please jump to the 2:50 minute mark of the video, per the chapter markers below:
    Chapter 1 - Inspiration: 00:00
    Chapter 2 - Time Flies: 01:46
    Chapter 3 - Commissioning Week: 02:50
Chapter 4 - Oath of Office and Graduation: 07:24
Chapter 5 - Let the Journey Begin: 09:32
I started making these USNA videos of our son to share with family and friends who live across the country and around the world - and through this process am humbled that others enjoyed watching them too. As our son (#seanlee8163) moves on to start his #service to #OurNation, I believe I’ve told all the stories I could of his - and our - #NavalAcademy experience. I sincerely hope some parents of the incoming #Classof2027 and future classes take up the mantle of sharing their son or daughter’s experiences so we can all enjoy their respective #midshipmen journeys, be #proudparents along with you, and thank them for their service.
Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to view this and the other USNA related videos I’ve posted. Fair Winds and Following Seas!

I’ve been following Sean’s journey through these videos. I also feel tremendously proud of Ensign Sean even though I’ve never met him. I send him blessings as he begins his commission and next step in his life journey.

Great video I am retired now but this brings back lots of memories while I did not attend Annapolis you never forget that day you received your commission and first salute. Good luck ensign and in two short years mom and dad can put on your LT(jg) shoulder boards.

When you get to your assignment put it in your subconscious that you want to do something for other people without it being known that you did it.
A bombastic attitude will not help you out. In general best to say as little as possible. When you go to your assignment for the first three to six weeks, observe before you get into the swing of it.
Never say that anyone is stupid even if the person is not there that you're saying it about. Not being so well educated is a sensitive issue with enlisted and they can sense that you feel that way and they won't help you out if you think that way about him or her. A good portion of the enlisted come from dysfunctional families. So try to make each person feel he or she is intelligent without saying it directly. Never make a snide remark.
A sailor or fellow officer will realize you have positive attitude about them and will support you thereafter. One or two of the people is crazy and you have to identify them, and see the best way to handle that situation.
Reading autobiographies of all time great officers will help you exceedingly. Especially if you read such books out loud to yourself.
