Ride to the eclipse - Eastern Ontario
มุมมอง 992 หลายเดือนก่อน
We drove to Athens, ON, (in the path of totality), parked, and hopped on our bikes. We rode to Delta, had coffee, watched the start of the eclipse until clouds obscured our view. We then continued our ride until we got cold from the dimishing heat, pulled over ti put on our fleeces and watched in awe as the sun disappeared and Venus appeared in the deep blue sky. The corona was breathtaking thr...
Test ride - longer edit

A test ride for our new GoPro and then a test of PowerDirector video editor, Snapseed (photo editor), and TH-cam....all done on our Samsung S6 Lite tablet since we aren't traveling with a laptop...lots to learn!
GoPro test ride
มุมมอง 603 หลายเดือนก่อน
We are busy testing new gear and making lists. This is the first ride with our GoPro Hero9. We rode to the end of our rode and back...about 11km.
You guys are amazing! It was good to Marco taking the front, as he usually enjoys Shannon's draft. lol! BTW, the sound level on the bike is really good, but way to low in the tent or when at the picnic table.
I keep telling her I'm behind for better video footage but you found me out. LOL
Hmm. I'll pay closer attention to the volume...not sure what I can adjust. Thanks!
Fingers crossed for less rumble strips and no wind in SK.
It's been much better in SK. The shoulder is wider so we can look around more...and less traffic.
What podcast was a favourite for this tough ride?
A Radiolab episode on square dancing. :) Shannon wanted to play her Tabata workout playlist but I vetoed that one LOL
"stawwwp"😂
Another great episode...it was fun watching this one since I took this exact same route 4 Yeats ago. Safe travels!
Quick tip, put your glasses over the helmet strap. If you wipe out the glasses won't get caught between the strap and your face, allowing them to fly off and not smash in your eyes.
Hmm. Never heard that one. I've never paid attention to the order I put them on. I'll try to remember that tomorrow when we head out.
You two are made of the right stuff - clearly. All the best.
I give you guys credit for soldering on! My favorite part has been BC :)
Just wait for Regina... I've ridden into Regina 3 times and the headwinds were 100KPH for sure difficult getting above 12kph.
Please no!
You folks are amazing. I took your advice and watched Arthur and Dawn. Binged the whole ride. I just don't know how people can sit on a bike for 90-100+ K. I can only do max 50 and then I need a few days to recoup. Their ride was pretty scenic and they didn't camp at all and rode ebikes however they are 81 and 77 same as my husband and myself and they still averaged 100k per day VERY impressive for sure.
I love your videos, but it would be a good idea to invest in a 4k camera for future videos.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm using a GoPro Hero9 but I'm processing the videos at a lower resolution for space and for uploading (WiFi is often an issue). I'm doing it all on a Samsung tablet.
Congratulations!!!
Thank you!!
Congrats Owen and Makayla 🎉❤🥂🍾
Thanks Rebecca...Pretty exciting!
$28.00 for bare bones campsite is a little high. In Mb and Sk some full service sites are $13 or $15. Having said that, the highest we paid in BC was $43.00 (full-service).
Agreed. We've paid $20 for a full service in BC but tonight it will be $45 (in touristy Drumheller).
@@Shannon_Marco_Travel wow...we been to drumHELLer when it was +42 C...I think we stayed at Irricana (?) And Fox Lake Provincial Park after that. Looking forward to the rest of your journey.
@@joshandjamesvosperfromhere6887 drumHELLer. lol Comfortable here now but for $48 it is not great. Shower is good so that's the main thing. 133kms today...longest yet.
@@Shannon_Marco_Travel awesome...also keep loonies and toonies for coin operated 🚿. A lot of campgrounds are installing coin showers. Cheers safe travels
I am in medicine hat tonight. Not sure if u r ahead or behind me. Maybe we will meet. Left Calgary on the 21
We are going north of Hwy 1. In Drumheller tonight, so we won't bump into each other 😂
Love all the Calgary trails.
We probably did 45km on paths! From south to north and out past the airport. Amazing!
Great Job you two and Congrats to your son and your future daughter in law :)
Hi Guys. I was wondering what the name of the campsite in Mission you stayed at is? I'm enjoying the videos.
We stayed at the Trout Lake campground...quirky but perfect for our needs.
Oh man. My husband and I were super proud to do 41K today on our electric bikes. You two are the bomb. Of course I must say he is 81 and I am 78 so we felt pretty proud of that. We would like to do a road trip but it would have to be from motel to motel to charge our batteries and I would say 50k would be our max., my butt gets so sore. Love the country. you are passing through. We drove through there in 2019 just before the world stood still.
LOL! Thanks for the comment! Look up "Arthur and Dawn" on TH-cam. They just pedaled from Florida to Ottawa on ebikes. Art is 80, I believe.
Goog job barvo je me suis abonné à bientôt sur les routes amitié du nomade à vélo
Hi, thanks for your video record of your trip. We aspire to do a similar ride. Can you tell me what brand of rain gear (jacket and pants?) you are using, and how well they work for the level of perspiration of hours-long touring? (I realize that no rain gear keeps you entirely dry even with only moderate exertion.) Thanks.
I wear MEC pants and jacket (I don't remeber the models). Both are great...the jacket is 10 years old! Shannon wears a MEC cycling jacket which she loves and MEC pants. I prefer to have a rain jacket with a hood so mine isn't specifically for riding.
Nice video! This park is very nice. We would love to return. Enjoy!
I can see by your pedalling motion that you are getting stronger.
What a dream adventure!
Awesome camp site! Thanks for taking us along.
Our pleasure!
Stunning camp spot at Lockhart beach! Your living the dream good on you two :)
Some spots are dreamy and some....well. Lockhart was definitely gorgeous.
You two are hardcore :)
More singing please🎶🎵
Just for you Rebecca! :)
Shannon's eating yoghurt with gloves on. It's so hot here we are taking off stuff we really should keep on!
Beautiful town :) I do cycling too but based in Perth have fun guys cycling
Heroic effort. Good for you, but this is why camping has to be a last resort for us old softies. 🙂
😀 Some nights are easier than others but camping with the occasional motel is the way for us!
All the very best and looking forward to following along. Greetings from Scotland.
Hello! My grandma lived in New Galliway and Kirkcudbright. We LOVE Scotland! It's on our rainy cycling destination list. ;)
What route did take ... all highway?
All highway. We aren't set up for trails. Except for traffic the roads are great.
Just so you know: I am much enjoying these videos of yours. You do a great job of showing off the joys of cycle touring - and the occasional downside! You remind me of the bike trips (more modest trips!) that Jacqui hand I made in the past and hope to return to soon. The kindness of others: the cyclist's tonic. :-). Pedal on and safely.
Thanks for that! A kind soul paid for our lunch today! The kindness of strangers...
Enjoying all these episodes! So nice to revisit this trip through your lenses! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this part of your triple!!! We took a train out to Vancouver last year and it was a day late, so we canceled our plan to Vancouver Island to get the mile "0" photo. Looks beautiful, we will have to return to bike this!
We had planned to take the train too but oh the hassles....including the huge delays. Air Canada got our business.
I just discovered your channel and subscribed. Thanks for sharing your adventure! We will be trying to finish our Cross Canada tour by bike this summer. We hope to get to Ottawa by the 3rd week in July. Cheers.
"we're going to get irrigated" "we're going to get quite irrigated" 😂
And I prefer no caravans or tandem trucks!
The riding stats are great! But we really love the reviews of the Michelin star hotels! $108!!!
Good on you two! Love to see couples touring. Just found your channel. What positive vibe you two seem to keep on your journey. Not always easy out on the road. Currently recovering from knee and hip replacement but just did a 30 min ride feels so good to be outside. I'll never take it for granted again :) Can't wait to getting back to bike packing with my wife, hopefully later in the summer. Love that area your going through now :) Thank you for taking the time to film, edit and upload. It is so inspiring more than you know. Wishing you two a safe, satisfying trip! New subscribers :) I'll bet that climb out of Osoyoos will wake a person up lol We'll be following along. Happy trails!
Thanks for riding along with us! And glad to hear you'll be heading out on the bike again.
Amazing adventure 👏 I loved cycling the Island.
Us too!
NP. I’ll keep following your trip on TH-cam.
Your videos popped up on my feed. I love your adventure and thank you for showing Canada. Enjoy and take care. Greetings from Spain.
Thanks so much for commenting. We are surprised it's showing up on people's feeds since we were making these for friends and family. We are happy to share views of this great country!
Wow, you guys are simply amazing! Really enjoying your videos! <3
congratulations on your adventure. Are you on Strava?
Not on Strava. Sorry. Thanks for following.
Shannon, Ian here from AF. Does your route take you through Rossland?
Hi Ian, we went to Nelson instead of going south through Rossland. Choices, choices.
The road noise on bridges is the worst!!! Great videos thanks for sharing.
So far! The worst noise has been the loud Harleys! Almost knocked us over with sound!
Glad to hear you finally for your coffee!!!
Love the video. So exciting finding a lovely campsite. Have fun tomorrow.
That helmet with the mirror and glasses looks next level, what is it? 😮
It's just a regular helmet with a small mirror attached. I can't mount a mirror on my butterfly bars so on the helmet it goes.
