The Evolution of StarClan; Why I Think the Ancestors' Morality Falls Flat
I FREAKING HATE TWIGBRANCH’S NAME. She is one of my favorite characters and they did her name such a disservice 😭. I personally would’ve named her Twigsong or something similar.
the reason none of the house cats were fixed was because fixing cats in the early 20th century wasnt a thing, hope this helps
I like this book! I've been in the Fandom since I was 12, now 22. I stopped reading for a while but this is the one that got me back into it. Ivypool has always been a really cool character to me, and the wildcats being introduced is so cool! I'd love to seeing more books involving other cat species
i would die for whitestorm and i am a deranged (delusional) whitetiger shipper
Wait I’m confused your name is…sunney rabbit but in your description it says your name is every bunny?
It would have been so refreshing if, upon first arriving at the new territories, the tribe cat's mess up hunting. A lot. They lose to animals such as foxes, badgers, dogs. A lot. Because they're used to the mountain's hunting techniques, and didn't have animals such as that to deal with in the mountain. Also, possibly new herbs, which almost becomes a "try it and see what happenes" system. Until the kittypets and some wild cats shows them around the new territory. Teaches them the new way to hunt out here. Shows them how to deal with dangerouse animals. Tells them about the new herbs and what they do/which ones to avoide. (Cause let say many of the local wild cat's wants absolutely nothing to do with them. So the kittypets, who mostly doesn't mind looking after others as well, comes along and assist the tribe cats. Then when then "Kittypets and Tribe cats" situation starts going downhill, the tribe cats starts being more open towards the wild cats, who have started accepting and/or getting along with the tribe cats, to various degree , with some of the local wild cats further feeding/confirming their shared views/opinions regarding kittypets - maybe after some of them tried to warn some of the tribe cats about the risks of letting two-legs know of your exsistance and willingness to accept food from them and letting the two-legs be around them - ). Also (I don't really know how to word this, so I just want to apologice if a hurtful message comes across, that wasn't the goal) , have some kittypets be, or be closer to, normal weight than the tribe cats. Cause I can't imagine that the tribe cat's frames were the picture of perfect health after first suffering low prey shortage in the mountains, then travelling, and then having to explore and get used to new territories (and then winter kicking in shortly after establishing themselves/finding their footing). Some kittypets could be shown eating 1-2 meals a day more than nessesary, but also show how it takes the tribe cats time to get up to ideal weight after everything they've been forced to push their bodies through. Then maybe have some of the more judgemental tribe cats start juding the plump kittypets, keeping them for catching prey cause "You don't need it, and you just stuff your face with what the two-legs feeds you anyway", and the tribe cats being desperate to keep themselves fed and in shape in order to survive out here, while the kittypets gets angry, cause this used to be a "free to roam as you like, and take what you like" territory, and now, just because they have a second, steady food supplie, they suddenly can't enjoy something else/fresh every now and then, cause this new stangers are being greedy and selfish, and hogging everything for themselves (which could start the whole "them and us" fraction/tension that lasts up to the "modern" age). Then maybe, to start further/much bigger/seriouse tension/fricksion between the groups, have some of the kittypets suggest that they can always get food from the two-legs and stay wild, if they ever struggle or don't have the energy to hunt for whatever reason (looking after newborn kits, being sick, being worn down by the bad weather). Also this way, there'll be enough live prey for everybody, cause the tribe cats won't need to feed on it every time they're hungry, and things within the territories can start to mostly go back to the way it was. And have some of the tribe cats do that. And have it work for a long time, so more start doing it in order to get out of whatever occational pinch. Then, the tribe cats starts getting captured, with some being brought away, never to be seen again, some getting spayed, some getting tagged so no matter where they are, twolegs will come and get them, and some, after getting pregnant, being kept inside until the kits gets given away, then released back out. The tribe cats can then justifiebly be angry at and start being suspicious of the kittypets that didn't warn them of this risk, and mad that some of the kittypet's answer is to just shrug and not consider it a big deal (as the two-legs still treats them kindly, and the tribe cats can still live fulfilling lives as kittypets), even when it makes the numbers in their group plummit, and will risk the tribe cats's bloodline getting erased and failing to fulfill their ancestors's prophecy/stoneteller's vision. Then have some of those same kittypets go back to spend the entire winter inside their dens, leaving the already low numbered group in bigger struggle, cause for the kittypets "Well, the easiest/obviouse solution to the tribe cat's problems are right here. It's not the kittypet's fault that the tribe cats sees themselves as better and would rather suffer in the difficult/harsh season. And the kittypets are definetly not going to risk their lives and make things more difficult for themselves. They like their lives as it is, and they aren't going to force themselves through the tribe cat's way of life for their sake, when the tribe cat's won't even listen to/entertain their solution that could guarantee making it though the snowy season. Most of them, would be let out again afterwards, afterall". Then, maybe have most of the few remaining kittypets leave as Clear Sky starts acting out more and more, as well as being willing/eager to spill more and more blood (just more proof for some of the kittypets that their solution for the tribe cat's problems were the best one), saying they didn't sign up for this, and they didn't show the tribe cats how to surive here just to have their lives be risked upon entering and being forced to now stay away forever from old/familiar areas (which could in turn solidify the whole "wild cats are dangerouse, cruel menaces" view "modern" kittypets have). Now just to say, non of this would justify the tribe/wild cat's treatment of Bumble of course, but this seem more "reasonable"/logical to me, then to have cats who have been living in isolation their whole life know about and have predetermind opinions on a completely different group of cats (as far as I can recall, the ancient by the lake never encountered two-legs or kittypets?).
Aww Andrews we will miss you on future audiobooks
Oh my gosh yes for old Squirrelstar. She's probably older by now than Bluestar was at the beginning, isn't she? Also, I had completely forgotten about Seekers, but now that you mention it... Personally I've been a fan of some of these more recent super editions, and I think it is because the protagonists are a bit older and more mature than the young protagonists of the arcs (Graystripe's Vow felt like it was precisely written for the warriors fans who had been with the series for a long time and were now also looking back on a lot of things). I'm not a parent or anything, but a very definitely adult character does feel more relatable now than one coded as a pre-teen!
I just noticed the zelda music in the background 👀
23:00 - The thing about Goosefeather was that his power was ultimately a curse. Not only was he born into a time where tradition/the rules were heavily abided by, but he couldn't take unconventional means to prevent the disasters he saw in his visions. The one time the clan listened to him on anything was burying prey before leafbare. Instead of going to Riverclan for their own clanmate's survival, they starved due to their own pride. Goosefeather was born BEFORE his power could have been effectively used.
Cool!
Thanks so much for mentioning the quality of the audiobook! I’ve been waiting to pick up the audio for this one, and now I think I will skip it altogether. I was going to stop collecting them after Star anyway. It’s sad that we’re losing Andrews, but I’m glad he’s standing against the AI stuff.
13:03 That IS weird. Sounds like the whole nuclear family schtick and I hate that 😊 Cuz like, wouldn't the Sisters raise their kits together??? They would have two parents or guardians, they're just not tom cats doing it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm 🤨
I don't know what's funnier, Sparkspelt or mangle-pelts. Stupid mangle-pelts...
ivypool's heart review: warriorclan mentioned 9/10
I'm happy to see more people liking this book. If I hear one more person say this book is just Ivypool whining, I'm gonna snap
21:10 StormClan was definitely formed before SkyClan left. Galestar mentions that some cats opposed the formation of StormClan on the basis that there are supposed to be five clans rather than four.
Interesting about the AI strike…because this narrator was chosen from a poll that used AI clips of their vocal likeness. Also she’ll be narrating the upcoming Changing Skies arc
THE RABBIT RETURNS
The return of a legend
THE RETURN OF THE RABBIT
Lol I literally rewatched some of their videos yesterday like "man... I hope they're still around and will post new ones soon 🥺" - wish granted!
I read Ravenpaw's Farewell for the first time a couple months ago. Part of me is still mad that it wasn't a super edition. Another part of me doesn't think I'd have been able to handle how sad it would've been as anything longer than a novella... 😢
I would call a Hollowpaw, Hollowtree or Hollowlog because those are the only things i can think of
i like to think Silverflame and Tawnypelt have grandma chats when Tawnypelt goes to sleep
I genuinely keep forgetting that i never finished dawn of the clans as a kid
Let's not forget Clear Sky's reasoning for taking Star Flower as a mate is that she's OBEDIENT, unlike his son. I think shes unfairly hated tbh, Clear Sky is a power hungry creep and the narrative has to invent new evi foreigners to make him look like anything but a monster. Gray Wing's apologism of his actions is abysmal to read. I feel this arc would stab me if it had the chance
I bought this just to see what characters were included 10 years later. I honestly kind of regret spending money on it, because the 2013 guide was so much better in terms of character consistency, blurbs, etc. Not hating on Owen for undoubtedly being on a time crunch and not really knowing how to draw cats/maybe not necessarily having the time to learn a framework, though.
I thought that was tawnypelt 😭😭 3:21
Bluestar: Why should these Thunderclan-raised kits be responsible for the other clans?! Also Bluestar: Yo, CheetohBoi™️ and friend. Go get Windclan back. Riverclan looks a little peckish, let’s get them a filet o’ fish and a large fry.
Honestly, though not a popular opinion, this was my favorite SE- and DoTC was my fav arc too. I can see how some people don't like it, but I always thought it was interesting. Like when she dreams of future naming cerimonies, I try to go back to find out which cats are granting lives, and who is getting the lives, I loved this book. I cried a decent amount during it though.
The thumbnail had me dying, great choice of words.
the medicine cat rule is so dumb because literally any of these kits could be kestrelflights or alder hearts and nobody would know it like only applies to the shecats
I saw the whole problem with Starclan and decided to make an oc where they are the villain. In this oc they intentionally send morally gray or good cats that made mistakes to the Dark Forest to fuel their control over the living cats by strictly enforcing the Warrior Code down to a tee. Buuuut some living cats are confused and angry when their old friend visits them from cat hell and says Starclan sent them there for no real reason and things go crazy from there. I also made lightning a symbol a Starclan cat’s presence to show that they’re using their power to intimidate the living into following their command (cuz lightning is scary and powerful).
Well yeah, in my opinion, i like traditional one more than lyrical because you can name your cat based on how they look like. For example, i have an oc which was brown solid cat with golden eyes. It took me for weeks to think for suffixes for lyrical name to match the personality. But for traditional, i just come with brownfur, woodpelt, tawnynose and smth like that.
hope you're doing okay!
I’m pretty sure that on the characters section of the Warriors website Tree’s photo in the short-haired one and Mothwing’s is the long-haired one. I think that’s where it comes from. Maybe they’ve changed it now.
where'd ya go?
i got here from trying to find the megaman version of sunstar
missing your videos 💔 hoping you come back someday, your videos are very watchable!
Ravenpaw: “ I - have feelings for you..” The authors : “ the feeling was friendship tho none had ever experienced it before “
As someone with epilepsy, I was happy to have a character that could show representation for me, but the holding down and the hinted at idea that Shadowsight was mentally ill because of his seizures and that his visions were fake BECAUSE of them rubbed me the wrong way… :(
"I learned more from Graystripe than any other cat" My brother in christ during your apprenticeship he was with SILVERSTREAM
i Have not seen ANYONE cover this arc and it took me FOREVER to find this video. i honestly loved this arc on a first read because i had just finished PoT, didnt know OotS was a thing (I was a young, autistic reader, like, 11, with no access to the internet), i came across the sun trail at a local library booksale, and i was honestly hooked, I loved gray wing as a protagonist absolutely HATED clear sky, (dawg literally acts like Brokenstar at some points and these books want us to LIKE HIM? HELLLLL NAH. ANYWAYS, putting together the whole canon into a timeline is something ive wanted to do for a while, and your video is DEFINITELY going to help, because as an adult reader, looking back at the books now, I could not stomach that particular arc anymore. GREAT VID! :)
I just noticed an error in your calculations that makes the dissonance between SkC and the main series even worse. The Apprentice’s Quest doesn't begin eighteen months after OotS, it begins eighteen months after _the Great Storm from Bramblestar's Storm._ I still have yet to read BSS, but I remember Brightheart's second litter being apprentices in the book when they were newborns in TLH, making it six moons. Lilyheart was made a warrior sometime late in this book, and I _think_ she's a month or two older than Dewnose, but don't quote me on that. Either way, adding BSS to the OotS-AVOS timeskip makes it around three years total.
9:55 written: Crookedstar Said: Longstar Probably meant: Tallstar
im surprised that whitestorm turned out the opposite of thistleclaw unlike tigerstar
I noticed too that I think either the first or second book in the broken code they removed him from having seizures. I wonder if they got backlash from how it was handled.
5:50 Tree got it from his connection with the Sisters, as the Sisters (group of she-cat (rogues?)) have this ability to see spirits walking in the real world
They’re such good friends that they adopted children and some kit even asked if they were mates and they both smiled
