My theory is that Quick Water got into Starclan while Juniperclaw didn't simply because Starclan just hates Shadowclan

maybe starclan was more lenient with quick water because all of them knew her? like starclan was kinda small back then

'The cure to ADHD is getting a job and a boyfriend'
Welp, as an aroace I guess I just gotta deal with it, huh?
Edit: just want to add a side note that the whole thing is especially frustrating when you jump to the trial of Squirrelflight and Leafpool; yes Leafpool Had kits (by Starclan's own idiocy and apparently it was 'foretold' which is another whole can of worms if they're getting mad at their Own prophecy but anyways) but Squilf was the one who raised them, so they were Squirreflight's kits. And MF just gets so... Mad about it, because... Why? Because Leafpool did her job as medicine cat well and Squilf raised the 3?
IDK, but this just adds to the whole thing and it's incredibly frustrating. :/

this book hurts my brain. part of me really wants to appreciate the fact that moth flight is not a perfect medicine cat and that the reason the rest of clan history has to deal with this decision is from a flawed individual's decisions. that would be totally cool and talk about how weird starclan and clan history really is. however, the writers want to make it clear that she's wise and that this is a good decision and i hate that. i can see so many more ways where a medicine cat mother, or even father, would be more compelling for this rule. it would be better if it went one of two ways: one, a medicine cat parent that really has never been interested in herbs but is talented and they spend their time avoiding healing, often ignoring their duties in favor of their mate and kits; or two, a medicine cat single parent that has their kits taken away from them by the clan to force them to focus on herbs and healing instead of being a parent and they rather fight for their rights to be a parent instead of healing, often ignoring injuries to get more time with their kits. moth flight could have been really cool as a cat that made a selfish decision or a cat that had a choice thrust upon them. i hate how the writers seem to shy away from making the perspective character openly flawed and acknowledging that they are wrong.

I think it could work. It would make Moth Flight and cats around her actually not a complete idiots and make Windstar in the second option acting reasonable considering that her daughter is bad at taking care about kits and they don't have the other medicine cat. Moreover in my opinion Moth Flight could be more sympathetic if after Yellowfang's case and Leafpool's case, she realised how much harm she has done by making no kits rule and how stupid and short-sighted she was. So when the battle with the Dark Forest ends, she appears in front of everyone and declares the removal of no kits rule for medicine cats (she puts some conditions like having the second medicine cat but still), apologises and takes the blame for every problem her own rule has caused so it clears Yellowfang and Leafpool from the blame.

Honestly, though not a popular opinion, this was my favorite SE- and DoTC was my fav arc too. I can see how some people don't like it, but I always thought it was interesting. Like when she dreams of future naming cerimonies, I try to go back to find out which cats are granting lives, and who is getting the lives, I loved this book. I cried a decent amount during it though.

A part of me wonders if the immaturity, odd characterization, and mentioning of Mothflight being "barely just a kit" is partially due to infantilization? Warriors already does not have the best history with it's differently abled characters, so it can't make me help but wonder. Either way, the book is not great

    • @riverswitness6293

completely agree. it's really creepy and makes me uncomfortable that they'll give this "barely older than a kit" aged character a mate, a heavy focus on her pregnancy, and babies. don't get me wrong, i am fascinated by stories of teen pregnancy and young parents, particularly mothers, but this feels gross. there is a way to talk about teenaged characters dealing with those kind of things in a way that doesn't belittle them or, as you said, infantilize them. completely rubs me the wrong way.

I listened to this story on audio book last year. I connected with Moth Flight because I felt like she was like me in a way. Neurodivergent/ADHD coded. As someone who struggled with school and other tasks because of ADD I felt a strong pull to her. That being said some of that like for her as a character kind of died around the end with the kits thing. Warrior cats sorely needs more strong female characters. This story would have benefited from Moth flight being able to juggle both her kits and her job but then I suppose then they wouldn’t have had a crappy excuse for the Medicine cat kit rule thing. I suppose it really rubbed me the wrong way personally since I’m the daughter of a nurse who had two kids and did just fine with juggling both. I’m not saying that Moth Flight can’t have that struggle because she’s young but still. I don’t know, it’s a mess. Perhaps instead of sending them away someone in her clan could have helped raise them?

    • @siobhannoble8545

She had literally an entire clan of cats who could babysit for her, but her kits were "too special" for that. So clearly the better option was to not only abandon them, but separate them from each other so that each would find themselves alone in a clan full of strangers.
The epilogue where the grown kits were all well adjusted and had a great relationship with their mother was ridiculous. By all rights they should've despised her. I know I would.

      @japanesejackalope ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@siobhannoble8545 I
Agree I figured the easy solution would be for her to allow the clan to help raise the kits but nah give them away. 🤦

I really tried to like Moth Flight. Towards the end she just seemed so different than the cat in the first few chapters. I liked and related to her struggles with needing to "useful" while being neurodivergent then it just sort of faded away which was disappointing. It was a good conflict but man did it just miss the mark in execution. Giving the kits away being the only option was just baffling.

I gave up reading this one pretty quickly due to boredom but I wanna believe the whole "barely more than a kit" refers to maybe her size or the way she's easily distracted to begin with, but knowing Warriors I really doubt that :')

They could have worded the medicine cat code alot better it should have been a med cat can't have a mate or kits unless there is a fully trained med apprentice that can take over for 6 moons not forbid it at all also mothflight is kinda stuck up saying her kits are better then everyone else's also mothflight was way way to young to have kits im getting the same answer that she was 10-12 moons when she fell pregnant which is creepy 22:44 those field guides are never right and not cannon bc their usually never right

    Another great Sunny video!
I really enjoy your videos and you are one of my favorite warriors channels. Unlike some other youtubers, you discuss the books in their entirety while others only talk about the "controversial tea". It was refreshing to hear you talk about the other short-commings of moth flight's vision (such as the boring pacing and unreasonable conflicts) instead of only focusing on the teenage pregnancy aspect. Although I wish you had also talked a bit more about Shadowstar's life as that part of the video came out relativly short leading to an unbalanced ratio. Either way, I look forward to more of your videos!

I'll talk about Shadowstar's Life further once I read Thunderstar's Echo. I just didn't want to go over that specific conflict twice.

Do warriors not do the same thing? Why can’t she be a queen like the warriors? Like if there are very few warriors in the clan, a pregnant she cat could still become a queen so what the hell. Also slay Acornfur! Bro this is only Mothflight’s problem! It’s like when 18:54 18:55 you rant about your problem and make it your friends problem!

I have seen the reviews both written and video, the jokes and read parts of MF's book and while I usually try and refrain from tossing judgement on books I havent read, I think I can allow myself a pass when it comes to certain ones in this series and this is one of them. Im glad i never bought it in hindsight.

As for the three SEs you havent read though, I can say that both Crowfeather and Onestars are mid and the worst part of both is easily Onestar himself. If you wanna go off quality do Crow's first then One's but imo the difference isnt major. I never read SkyClan's destiny cause i frankly dont care about their adventures without the other four clans (Hawkwings journey was ok on first read if not a bit unnecesarry. his story could have fit a novella imo).
