I’ve wanted a Whitestorm novella for a while now. Unfortunately, every time I bring it up the biggest response I get is along the lines of: “arc 1 ThunderClan eww.” I just want to know why Whitestorm was considered “very old” at like 5 years…
Aaaah you did it!! Thank you so much!!! Whitestorm really grown on me while reading the first series. I always wondered why he seemed to know that he would die in the battle against bloodclan. In my headcanon Snowfur told him in a dream. Maybe a novella could start with his younger years and end end with a timeskip with snowfur telling him it would be his time soon.
I should have mentioned that he seemed know that he wouldn’t live past the BloodClan battle. Some cats know ahead of time when they’ll die (Cinderpelt, Flametail) as far as I know Whitestorm is the only warrior who showed that ability in some capacity. He’s such a great warrior and decently popular in the fandom. A novella about young Whitestorm would be wonderful!
I love Whitestorm, but don’t think he needs a novella, it would just tread over events that Bluestar’s prophecy, Redtail’s debt, or Spottedleaf’s heart touched on. I never saw him as a grandpa, as you mentioned he was only 6 at the time of his death, but just a wise friend. He is nice to everyone, hence why him and Tigerstar were friends. But I love seeing other people talk about him
I think a lot of the kits born in the first arch, especially in ThunderClan, were born more out of necessity for more warriors. It’s stated a lot that they need them in the first couple books. It’s part of Fireheart’s argument for why Cloudykit should be allowed to join ThunderClan. In the following arcs and the super Edison’s that come both before and after, mates are more monogamous and affection. There are SOME exceptions. Blizzardwing cheated on Featherstorm with Hollyflower. When Poolcloud retired, Toadskip found a new mate in Nettlespot. Daisy and Smoky never truly loved each other, so Daisy left him (in more than one way) and became mates with Spiderleg for a time until they realized it wasn’t working. And many cats finds a new mate after their previous one died. But for the most part, mates last a lifetime, so I think many of the kits and some of the apprentices from the first arc were born because ThunderClan NEEDED more Warriors. That’s why Whitestorm had kits with two different she-cats without any hard feelings between the the three. At least one of the Whitestorm parings was seen more as fulfilling a duty than actual love, likely Brindleface since that was earlier in the series when ThunderClan needed warriors so badly, they were willing to take in kittypets. Being foster siblings, Whitestorm and Brindleface would have been able to talk it out and figure out the details of how involved they both wanted to be and how much they would allow it to change their relationship. On a side not, I have an OC that’s survived since my first days in the fandom (dang over a decade ago now lol). I made him to be the sort of anti-Whitestorm because his feline boyscout attitude kind of annoyed the rebel in me. His name is Graystorm (original, right) and he’s a dark gray tom with, short, thick, sleek fur and amber eyes. He’s kind of got Dustpelt’s personality in that he’s fiercely loyal to his Clan to the point that it causes issues. His mate is Littleclaw, a small, tabby-and-white she-cat and their kits are Rianfall (speckled gray tom), Plumleaf (very dark gray tom with green eyes), and Leafwing (tabby she-cat with green eyes). Graystorm and Plumleaf don’t get along because Graystorm is against queer cats, but Plumleaf’s mate is Beefur, a trans tom, and their (only) kit, Honeyshine, is also a trans tom. Plumleaf and Beefur are politely dismissive of his attitude, but even as a kit, Honeyshine would often start fights with his grandfather (he does NOT live up to the sweetness of his namesake and is quite the spicy kitty). In certain story lines, there is another cat, Featherstorm, who is equally bullheaded. She was born as a loner to a former SkyClan warrior, so he didn’t like her from the start. Even though he’s much older, she was always happy to put him place. When she was given a trans tom as an apprentice, she became even more argumentative with him. Anytime she thought Graystorm was even LOOKING at Moonpaw the wrong way, she would snap at him. And she ends up being the one to have a sort of “come to feline Jesus” talk with him when he goes to her for help saving his relationship with Plumleaf. He turns himself around and works hard to prove he’s trying to change, even breaking off his relationship with Littleclaw when she refuses to change as well and disowns Plumleaf for being with Beefur. When Moonpaw becomes Moonheart and runs away with Featherstorm’s brother, Stormfeather (the sibling were originally named Storm and Feather after their parents Tempest and Duskfeather, so they were named Stormfeather and Featherstorm after each other because of their bond), Graystorm leads a patrol to go find them and saves them from a cult-like group of cats. Graystorm is no longer a bigot, but is still a grumpy old kitty who Featherstorm and Honeyshine like to pick on. But he does end up mentoring one of Moonheart and Stormfeather’s kits, Plumetail (Moonheart was “forbidden” from naming any of his kits after Featherstorm by Stormfeather and his leader/father, Blazestar, because she’s such a troublemaker that isn’t afraid to call other put for being mousebrains,even if they are leaders, so he got around it by naming her after a SPECIFIC type of feather, which is why Graystorm is her mentor, to keep her from becoming like her aunt). I like Graystorm and try to incorporate him in as many fanfics as I can.
I want to see how he reacted when Thistleclaw died that was only a few months before Firestar joined, and maybe when him and Tigerclaw stopped being close friends? I never believed he’s Brindleface kits father was just an old family tree on the website for years

She literally died because she couldn't leave the intruding ShadowClan cats to just cross the border. She chased after them, ready for a fight. It's kind of poetic that Thistleclaw also died looking for a fight over borders.
Whitestorm is a wholesome grandpa. If they did a super edition for him they would probably retcon in a nasty attitude and family drama that doesn't make sense for the ThunderClan family tree, or the timeline.
I want to know what StarClan Whitestorm thinks about his father being in the Dark Forest. I wonder if cats in the pre-Prophecies Begin clans ever found out about their deceased family members or clanmates not being seen in StarClan through their medicine cats and realized that they went somewhere else

Bringing up Thistleclaw over and over again just kinda seems unnecessary at this point, especially after lots of people have decided that, whether or not they enjoy it, Spottedleaf's Heart is canon. However, whenever making a video about Whitestorm, it's hard not to bring up his father. After all, Thistleclaw not only blatantly neglected his son, but he also tried to get his son killed in a skirmish. Yeah, it's annoying to constantly hear about Thistleclaw, but it's necessary whenever you're literally making a video from his son's perspective.
A Whitestorm novella sounds like a good idea. GET YOUR PROPHETIC PAWS OFF HIM ERINS!
