What do you mean put 500lb chalk in there
Chalk (calcium carbonate) is a finely ground mineral which helps to balance the pH of the substrate which allows aerobic bacteria to digest organic debris. Aerobic bacteria don’t like acidic environments, so balancing pH with chalk will help to reduce silt load by allowing aerobic bacteria to work. It’s used as a long term treatment to combat silt and improve water fertility.
@BPMilling could this be done like places the grand Union canal which is so silted up ,our Christmas match was won with 14oz seems there's hardly any fish ,when the coal boats used to travel through it kept a deep channel
What do you do with the silverfish afterwards, doesn't look like you're going to kill them.
These were moved to another of the clubs waters, permission was granted by the EA prior to our visit.
Ive heard the best people to use to net your lake are eastern Europeans. Apparently, they can clean out a medium sized water in a couple of hours.
I’m sure it will make good content if we can put your theory to the test 😂
Now it seems to me, that a lot of fisheries, are becoming “ Camp out/ Carp” fishing lakes…I don’t understand the logic behind it…Bream seem to be taken on boilies….and the same for big Roach…..why is this fascination on big Carp?….just saying
I believe that the carp fishing explosion is due to its simplicity, and the relative lack of concentration required to catch "big" carp. Any mug can throw out three rods, put the bite alarms on, and then go to sleep while waiting for a fish. It's a lazy way of fishing, and that suits some anglers. The best carp anglers are an exception to the rule, as they are continually tweaking things . The majority of carp anglers are more like camping enthusiasts with fishing gear. Just saying 🤣🤣
There’s a lot to be said on this topic, it’s our job to help steer fisheries on a healthy path to create happy and productive environments for fish, the state of the market is a can of worms that we all have an opinion on 😜
My comment wasn’t intended as a criticism. You’re doing a fantastic job with your fishery. Bravo sir.
I’m sure you haven’t offended him, thank you for your comments!
Don’t understand the fascination with carp. I’d much rather have a mixed silvers fishery. Each to his own.
Exactly that! 👌🏻
remember fihing there back in the 70,s great roach and tench fishing
I reckon the roach and tench fishing is still pretty good!
@@BPMilling yes they bought in a stupid rule of min 8 lb line and min size 8 hook to make the carp boys happy and ruined the place for proper anglers
Awesome Ben! Good job!
Thank you for taking the time to comment as always! ❤️
What's the deal with you guys doing nettings for people? We have had our local club net our lake last few years to remove unwanted fish but its never been very prolific and dosent make a dent.
It’s not easy! The right tools, experience and often draining all help to improve the efficiency 😜
Another great video into the insight to fishery management.
Thank youuuuuu! 😁
Netted a few lakes last one a big mill lodge ,,,after we netted the carp out next 12 hrs all the fished died ,we had disturbed the silt mud and it had clogged there gills all dead u gotta know what u are doing 😮
Someone else said they had this happen, something’s not quite right! We’ve never had that happen and have netted hundreds of fisheries over the years! It shouldn’t kill them! 😬
@BPMilling we had them examined and the gills were full of silt mud bits of gunk,it was horrible
A part of my carp fishing history. Fished it late 70's early 80's with now past friends Jon Burrows and Andy Short BCSG members. Guest appearance by Kevin Maddocks on a couple of occasions. Good times and a lovely lake, would be nice to revisit one day.
Yes we could tell it’s a venue that has seen some angling history!
I've been watching yours netting clips for a long time and I come to conclusion - why fishery owners in UK don't stock their ponds with a solid numbers of perch, pikes or catfish to control all the silvers? I'm aware of pike or catfish might be a threat to smaller or even medium carp but perch seems to be just perfect for this job.
Some do. Some places like the silvers because they are free stock for their other lakes.
Lots of places do that and the effect is not what you’d think. All fish still need feeding, regardless of species and often the amount of perch or pike required to effectivey control juveniles is often detrimental to the growth of other fish, it all comes down to total biomass. Catfish on the other hand are non-native so they require special license to stock, they also breed effectively in the right waters and become a nuisance in themselves! Not as easy as it sounds unfortunately!
What about the carp?
They’re much better at exploiting opportunity to get out of the net whenever the leads find a snag, lily root or reed stem! Silvers and bream are shoal fish so even when the netting goes bad, they often just follow the mesh in without trying to dig out under when the lead line lifts. The boys said they saw plenty electrofishing, but it’s no surprise not to have any in the nets given the nature of the old lake and its many features!
That makes sense! It’s advertised as being stocked with 200 carp but I only think you can see one that spooks off the electro rig
Brilliant content am letting people no about your pellets and nutrapel I've had the second busiest year at my lake since using your products so will be deffo better putting an order in the early spring. Thank you. 🐟🎣
Awesome, really appreciate customers that help spread the word! Your good word is worth a thousand of my own! Thank you! 🤩
Agree 100% on ecosystem approach. Just look to the experts of carp farming, the Chinese. They have learnt over the centuries best practice. They stock with exactly that in mind when stocking ponds for fish growth. Intervention is important as every intervention is about optimising the ecosystem for optimum growth.
Silverlands Syndicate is being netted in the winter. Will you be allowed to vlog that?
Maybe! Not sure yet, do you know what date it is?
Farmers make great fishery owners😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
100%
@@BPMillingWell I massively disagree with that statement. I think anglers make the better fishery owner.
@@trayvondiacost contraversial! We’ve worked with hundreds of fisheries, farmers are generally pretty consistent with the quality of fisheries because they understand the requirements and responsibilities of keeping livestock. Anglers seem to know what they want but without a realistic understanding of how it’s achieved. As an example most fisheries that can’t resist re-stocking regularly are the run by anglers, farmers understand that livestock need management and stock numbers need controlling to maintain health and progression.
@ How is it controversial? The owner of my Syndicate is a farmer. He’s done as little as possible the last couple of years and as a result had to to extensive work this year. He’s sacrificed the work to have 3-4 holidays a year using our syndicate fees. So no,Farmers don’t always make good fishery owners in comparison to anglers.

12:33 People who have never worked with livestock often fail to realise that a bit of measured heavy-handedness is often the safest way to deal with an animal for both parties. Sure it doesn't look great but it causes less stress and less harm than you might cause trying to mollycoddle every single creature of the hundreds you've got to deal with.
Agreed!
This video and explanation was fantastic, well done 👏🏻

We're currently experiencing a massive filamentous algae bloom. Nitrite is around 0.5ppm and nitrate is around 10mg/l, trace of phospate, it's an old estate pond but it's gone from clear and weedy to weedy, a bit murky and suffering with masses of filamentous algae/blanket weed over the last 4 years. I have a feeling we're getting runoff from the fields but I need some heavy rain to analyse the inflow, scary times, not really sure what to do except keep trying to skim the crust off (we're creating plant filter beds on the inflows, trying to divert the suspected runoff, clearing lilies and surrounding trees where possible)
Carp are the problem. They are bot ment to be here and their greed and the fisheries single minded approach drives native species out. Its no longer a ecosystem and offers nothing to the natural world
Fisheries have a lot to answer for. Both match and specimen. The latter eridicates all other species and ecosystems for the benefit of what is essentially a invasive species. I look at you average carp fishery and just see a once healthy ecosystem that has been systematically turned into a mono culture. Even the water is blue, might as well be sitting by your bath.
Beauties
About time one of you boys came out and said it out loud I fished a lake down here in Norfolk had over 70 carp in a day up to ten pounds and every one of them looked like skeletons it was distressing to see they were so hungry and Ill looking. I won’t be going back there
Wich carp book you recomend for learning about carp feeding and nutrients?tnx🎉
Well said. Stop stocking carp. Stick with silvers. A match winning weight of 20lbs should be the aim. 100lbs and 200 lbs of tame carp that are caught three times a week is, quite simply, obscene.
What a fantastic strain of carp, did you get any history from the zoo?, they are very special. Subscribed
