Lily pads - Good or bad for your fishery?

We all love to see Lily pads when we're fishing, a stunning asset to any waterbody and always worth a look when you're having a tough time catching one!
However, their contribution to the aquatic ecosystem is not great, in fact I believe that they are more of a burden than a blessing to the productivity of the water. In this short video I explain why. Hope you like it. Share it and subscribe!

What about in a shallow man made concrete park lake, with no natural vegetation or shelter? In the summer it has algae blooms and water level drops due to evaporation, would it be beneficial to plant them there?
Also has issues with cormorant predation.
There is no facilities or prospect for aeration etc.

Every lake I’ve fished with Lilly pads on the fishes mouth’s have been absolutely battered. See so much bad angling around pads it’s unreal, especially on day ticket waters. Fish at any cost for some people unfortunately.

I love the aesthetic of a lily pad. If we did everything for the fish the lakes would be baron, treeless no vegitation holes in the ground. Great video though Ben
