Was This A Massive Mistake? Critical Role Campaign 3 Theory
Well let me start with this. I truly thought that Vox would have the most difficult time, but I was clearly wrong. IMO other than Vex getting pwn'd then brought back, Grog was insanely OP. That was an amazing battle. After watching this video it is clear that the weavemind will be the most difficult fight. I do not believe Ludinus, even though he will be just like Pumat in that there are multiple snowballs, basically, he will be a tough fight but doable for Bells Hells. As for the weavemind....I think the Might Nein will have their difficulties even though level 20 is just pure insane. The overall issue is mind control. That fight is going to be a constant battle with that and illusions. Curious how the power is going to break down though. So, if there are 5 weavemind creatures, then if 1 dies does it lose 20% power? Curious if that is how Matt is going to do this powerband thing or will it be reverse? If 1 dies the last of them gain power? Overall, Weavemind > Ludinous > the army that was on Exandria.
@@joeblow7735 actually that’s an interesting point will the other weave mind members gain power from the others dropping that’s a fascinating idea
who cares, they are npc´s in vox machinas story, sad but true
3:57 How do you feel that Apollo aimed his Dodgeball of Prophecy straight at your forehead, and it instead grazed past your hair?
@@atomicr4y472 pretty good I get some predictions right now I missed so much over the years even though this was undone I was right
I feel like if Arkhan comes back, Joe's going to be sitting in the DM chair when he's playing him.
Jester's second "Because He's upstairs?" Breaks every gosh darn time! Lil rambling... One of the first real instances of loss this character had to go through, they bonded almost immediately as chaos Tieflings. Molly was her friend, and i think one of the first realizations that part of having friends means you may have to someday say goodbye to those friends!! So she did her damnedest every time to never have to say goodbye to another friend.
Let's remember the hells and the nien used a lot of spells just calling people that even they said before switching back to vox machina they shouldn't have done that.
@@shadowhell8378 that’s also true although I’m pretty sure they didn’t use any over 3rd lvl but I could be wrong
Just remember, M9 took out VM when they squared off.
not only does bells hells have pretty bad dice luck (and i may be misremembering some moments), but i feel like matt has had some crazy dice luck throughout C3 and during a lot of the big fights. i feel like i remember him rolling a lot of 20s as otohan.
I kinda hope BH lose the fight.
Mercer is afraid of challenging his players. And when he did, they were afraid to face anything for 50 episodes. Nobody will die, there's no discussion
I reckon my favourite team Bells Hells have got this in the bag. Evidence: they have the mask of the Raven Queen and The Arch-hearts hair strand (with meteor swarm) , they are united right now after I believe Orym got them on board of not releasing Predathos (unless shit hits the fan) Liliana if alive will turn on Ludinus in a flash and catch him off guard (and possibly Robbie’s character in the fight) and if they succeed yes they may die but mask or Archheart strand. I’m aware that I’m completely probably wrong and everyone may die but I need Laudna to be ok again and Imogen to marry her love
They could in a last ditch have the majority, if not all but Caleb Or Chetney, jump into the potable hole then teleport to the portal and have Fearne Wild shape with them in the hole to get out. Or some other combination of people and abilities. That would be best case if they need to leave and can.
@@Omnia-0001 there are always exit strategies for Matt to pull to at least make it fair doesn’t mean they will make it but they will have ample opportunities to escape
@MatthewEmbleton-j4x Yeah, this was more or less the worst case way they could get out in my head if I were a player. And by extension the most unlikly.
I think mighty nein will be fine. The Caleb and Yasha mind blank are huge and Beau is dangerous as long as she can reach anyone. The two clerics can keep them up (plus we have seen with VM how two auto divine interventions are crazy). My concern is largely for mighty nein. I’d say TPK but I think Launda, Ferne, and Imogen may have story reasons they survive but I think this is the most likely TPK
If they release Predathos, I imagine the the Divine Gate will dissolve as it happens.
I'm reminded of the VM vs MN oneshot personally, and the analyses that pointed out how VM is very offensive whereas MN is very defensive. MN has only had one pc death that lasted long enough to need resurrection instead of revivify, and said death influenced their builds for the remainder of the campaign! I think that character deaths are possible for the Mighty Nein, but I think that a TPK is unlikely Bell's Hells, however, seem to be in a far worse position, even without all of the critical story things that they have to deal with on top of the straight fight. I hope that both parties make it out okay, but I think that BH may have heavy casualties
No one will stay dead. Matt does not DM that way unless a player forces his hand. We had yet another meaningful moment passed by with our final episode of VM. Imagine **SPOILERS** if Vex could not be brought back when she died. Something like the divine magic that the gods used on Predathos to bind it into Ruidus absorbs the souls of those who parish on the moon to fuel the spell. That would also explain why the Reilorans exists on Ruidus as well. A Vax finally freed takes a second to absorb the scene before him. And in those brief seconds, where he sees the destruction his family brought to those who imprisoned him, he bares witness to his twin permanently dying. That would be real drama. And a shot across the bow for MN and BH that if you are going to mess around you are going to find out in the most unpleasant way. Real, meaningful stakes. Which is why Matt would never do it.
The problem with high-level wizard antagonists is that it's very hard to convincingly defeat them. Ludinus is a thousand year old max level spellcaster. There's literally zero excuse for him to not have contingencies upon contingencies. I think Matt obviously knows this, so I actually think there's going to be a second fight after this upcoming encounter.
@@hyperbrug9328I’m stuck between hoping he doesn’t and hoping he does mostly because I don’t want c3 to end yet
@@ZodiacBandit I'm personally looking forward to the campaign ending, but I can tolerate a few more episodes if it means a more satisfying conclusion
Im honestly not too concerned about them getting through the portal. As long as Fjord is there, he can cast water breathing. But I do worry what might happen to Bells Hells. I think they will take the hardest hit, just from the outcome of who does what concerning predathos. I am starting to wonder if either Imogen or Fearne will try to take in predathos and go wacko. And maybe that will be the plot of campaign 4 or a one-shot.
Ludinus defintely has resurrection plans and I would be suprised if neither of the remianing groups encounters a simulacrum(sp?). He might also turn up dressed as FCG just to f*** with people but that's a long shot theory tbh...
I can't wait for the Mighty 9 fight cause in theory they have hardest fight out of all 3 parties' buildup wise. They feel like the most prepped party with 4 true heavy hitters being Caleb, Yasha, Fjord and Veth with Beau and Jester being able to occasionally match them and Cad being their true support. I don't think the Weave Mind as individuals can match Ozo Kruth but all of them as a unit surely eclipses him and they also have the ability to control any NPC outside of them and maybe the party to do whatever they want. I really can't wait for their fights. Also unrelated but also relevant what happened to Ludinus's Plan to show the world what happened to Aeor. It seems like a waste since the whole world basically already allied together to take him down or was that a plot point I missed earlier.
I believe that the whole "show what happened in Aeore didn't go through because Liliana was able to pretend like she wasn't able to project it, Imogen and Liliana had a conversation about it before they went to the faewild iirc
@@Gamemaster6400Damn, now it feels like a wasted dynamic not in play. Cause that whole plot line lead up to just “join me” and them saying “no”. If it happened during the exandrian meeting it would’ve been perfect leading to the same outcome that we have right now but just more juicer. Unless Matt thinks it’s bad enough that the gods would just hit the reset button but it still feels like a waste.
@@VeryAbsurd I mean, I feel like that while yea that plotline kind of died away (and I feel like the party might have forgotten about it since they had so much happen in the fey wild) I think it's a good conclusion to showing that Liliana is at least somewhat trust worthy and is willing to risk herself to help Imogen since there was so long where it felt like she couldn't be won over
@@Gamemaster6400 I also think that Liliana managed to at least delay the broadcast it could still blindside us later
I’m expecting a Lucien style fight for the M9
And the other big problem is this. Braius fucking told Asmodeus about the Archheart’s plan and that bastard intends to stay behind if the other gods leave.
@@youngmultiverser9311 I’m still wondering how that plays into everything
But also dont think so, they died they are dead, off scren shure.
i think the mighty nein could be fucked if the weave mind has access to polymorph and banishment. like imagine transforming yasha into a sheep and sending her back to exandria. the same with caleb (who has a tendency to become bigger monsters for better attacks and ac) Im almost sure Ashton will be the one releasing predathos, in the cooldown for the last episode Tal said "it will be a shame if something happens to the gods" and i think the rest of the cast think he's joking but we know how arrogant and selfish ashton is, if they think they right and everybody else is stupid they will do it. it would be the third "its what my character would do" moment of this campaign. edit: even if matt goes full no mercy mercer, he always designs his boss fights thinking in ways they could win because he cares for his friends and want them to succed even if someone has to sacrifice themselves (as it was with otohan)
banishment wouldnt send her to exandria.. she is on her home plane, the moon isnt a different plane.
@@hadesblackplays banishment is realm based would ruidus be a different realm I’m leaning toward no as fcg used it on themself and fearne in the past
@@ZodiacBandit Still, banishment could work for Fearne as she's from the Feywild, but not really the rest. It doesn't sound like something Matt would pull though imo
@@hadesblackplays no they have Gaz Tomo (from the future) hard agree Matt has always made the fight fair it’s why he let Otohans HP slide and let FCG kill her
13:02 I think all 3 parties will be happening at the same time so for the mighty nien and bells bells the bridge would still be up currently
@@tromar5758 Matt said at the end of the Vox Machina fight he rest still need to play out and the weave mind got involved with the VM fight meaning the Nein didn’t get to them yet
Jester will finally be able to get a Devine intervention for once since it’s guaranteed at level 20 lol
"In a desperate final move, Jester prays to the traveller and suddenly the Weave mind are crushed under the weight of a gargantuan phallus..."
@@tromar5758 omg yes she’ll get her moment
but we already saw this happen during a live show, when they fought Trent ICKYthon
@@Dorokill also I’m pretty sure she did it in the ukatoa live show BUT this will be the first one “during a campaign”
Will devine powers work on Ruidus, especially now that the bridge is broken?
I feel like there's a non-zero chance Ludinus will respond to the destruction of the Bloody Bridge by True Rezzing Othahan Thule. No idea what OT will do for replacement Gear, but I'm sure Matt will think of something.
@@Cassius335 actually that’s a crazy idea and one I can see totally happening but I’m pretty sure they have her body unfortunately
@@ZodiacBandit BH gave OT's body away to the Hellcatch rebel camp not too long before said rebel camp got flattened, so there's wiggle room.
I don't think so. One of the things that really bother Wizards is the fact that even if they master the Arcane magics, they can't learn the Divine magics. I'm sure Ludinus could do something like that using an item or something, but I feel as though the powers (whomever is called upon) that give Divine magic would not be too happy to lend their Magic to someone actively planning to kill them.
@@Aurora_Lightbringer You're not wrong, but if Ludi is desperate there's always Wish.
@@Cassius335 The legend of the peaks was blew up what remains is in the body parts hole. there nothing to Rez and Matt would never take FCG’s defining moment from him it’s the same reason why he wouldn’t Rez Letters
One detail that you got a little bit wrong in here *Minor Spoilers Below (If you watched this before the episodes somehow) Exandria is flat not Spherical
@@royalrosepetal we got a flat exandriaer over here
Should be noted that the cast said that the Wedding does not prevent them from dying and that they'd possibly squeeze it in somewhere in the timeline if unable due to something like death

@ yeah and that secretly is a wrap up of Campaign 3 we’re we see where all of Bells Hells and their supporting cast of that Campaign (Xandis etc.) ended up before C4 timeskips BOTW style and we get a broadtrokes what happened afterwards
I like just because you mentioned Dragon Ball Z : ) !!!
@@soldier660 gotta rock the dragon
I’ll say this in terms of the fights themselves I’m not worried about the mighty nine they have 2 lv 20 clerics and I doubt the weave mind has anything that broken. The bells hells however I think might have some issues. As they’re the weakest group by far and have the least possible back up. As for getting off the moon that could present issues depending on if Predathos is freed or not. If not then I see no reason even if they can’t teleport that everyone can’t make it off. If he is let lose then well several people gonna die.
Yes.
@@Banquet42 agreed
I'm worried about how many will survive due to plot armor 😅 But hey, maybe they will be wrapping up the whole saga and we'll see actual permadeath 🤷
@@8Smoker8 plot armor in dnd? The group with the most “plot armor” or in this case the group that gets the easiest path just had their fights the real fights are still to come
@ZodiacBandit well yeah, they have plenty of plot armor. I can suspend my disbelief only so many times, and I'm not used to excessively cut-throat campaigns either, I just don't feel the stakes. CR1 had some good moments, less in CR2, now it's just all feelings and drama, the fights are very secondary 🤷
@@8Smoker8 There's no such thing as plot armor in a chance based game. Sure, Matt could play it lenient, but he's arguably being playing a more brutal campaign style for C3 than he did for the other 2 campaigns, and I doubt he'd start now. You weren't exactly complaining about plot armor when Otahan was hunting them and practically wiped them.
@@Aurora_Lightbringer plot armor isn't just "She got crit by Predathos but survived because of the Power of love". It's fudging dice, creating flashy but safe encouters, placing friendly NPCs in key positions. Even Otohan, flashy as the first fight was, didn't kill anyone.
First: In the realm of alternate weddings… do you think we could get a Keyleth/Vax? Full on goth wedding- black dress, raven skulls & black flowers & black feathers for decor… set it after this key battle before he is reclaimed by the Raven Queen. And it ends with Scanlon removing Vax from Keyleth’s memory entirely. Second: regarding the escape from Ruidus, I think there are more options available. The bloody bridge is removed, but that also set the leylines back to rights so they may be able to teleport or plane shift. Especially if this occurs, as you suggest, after the cage holding Predathos is removed, which may have circumvented members of the Grim Verity in the past. Even if they do have to get all 15 of them back through the hidden backdoor portal, they could put people into the hole to minimize that number or otherwise transform people to be smaller and/or more able to get through. Overall, I think Predathos likely will be released, but I don’t think it will destroy Ruidus. I think Liliana will be the chosen vessel, but Imogen will swoop in and take her place last minute. I may have set my expectations too high, but I can see some cupcake level curveballs from Bailey to Mercer in this last battle for the Bell’s Hells depending on how it plays out. I also kind of expect the Mighty Nein to come in at the end of the Bell’s Hells’ battle (almost too little too late) for a bit of final cleanup and maybe healing/revivification before they all hightail it out.
@@LDC4th Liliana is the best choice for the vessel as it keeps the players around and could also give a final fantasy type final villain of she can’t control it
Just because he is the lap dog of the Weave Mind does not mean the Weave Mind is more powerful than him. For example a navy seal is the lap dog of an admiral, but the seal would be able to kill the admiral in the blink of an eye. Look at real life it happens all the time, so it is not a given that the Weave Mind is more powerful.
@@matthewlaird5235 the weave mind are gonna have to be more powerful in general as they have a harder fight in the Mighty Nein who just have insane power creep on VM not to mention there’s a good chance that admiral was a navy seal in the past or could’ve been one just because he’s not now doesn’t mean he was never one Also that admiral is gonna be more powerful in the sense that he has more resources and more pull on others that seal does what the admiral says And applying real life stuff to a super powerful ancient alien group who mind control people is kinda funny
@@matthewlaird5235 also they have allies with the Volition, and BH can always meteor swarm or call the Matron’s army in a pinch
Bells Hells might be fucked. We know that the weave mind created the Malleus Fortress, but the Nein have a ton at their disposal, and lots of ways to deal with death. I think that Lilliana will turn against Luda and save BH's.
@@davidwilfand916 yea I feel like the Nein should be ok as long as jester and cad are still up
Music is a nice touch man. I don't think the Nein have much to worry about. I am super worried about the Hells though. They're nowhere near as powerful as VM or MN and their only real allies close by would possibly be Lillianna and MAYBE Ira depending on whether or not he is in the feywild still or not. Nana Mori COULD somewhat intervene as well as the Raven Queen, but that's it really. The hells are in trouble with their fight.
@@Jeremy-en5vv yea definitely have the most worry for the hells
I don't think we need to be worried, based off of Vox Machina's fight they should be rather fine. The fight in C3e114 only had a single tense moment, when Ozo Cruth downed Vex. But that only happend because they forgot that he needed to roll against blindness after hitting Vex with his Frenzied Wrath. Vox Machina still had four 9th level spell slots (Cerkonos, Pike, Keyleth, and Scanlan), meaning they had a ridiculous amount of remaining power leftovers after the fight. Might Nein have greater survivability and power compaired to Vox Machina. 》Fjord has [Armour of Hexs] and [Aura of Protection] 》Jester + Caduceus has [Power Word Heal] + [Divine Intervention] 》Caleb has [True Polymorph] + [Mind Blank] 》Yasha has [Rage Beyond Death] + Caleb cast [Mind Blank] on her 》Beau has [Empty Body] + [Dimond Soul] 》Veth has [Uncanny Dodge] So I firmly believe that Mighty Nein will not have any issues with the Weave Mind. And Ludinus has never seemed to be as strong as the lore suggests, he has always seemed to be an achievable goal for Bells Hells. In regards to getting off Ruidus, since a divne gate stops [Teleportation] but not [Plane Shift]. Or if they have to get through the water, Fjord has a free use of [Control Water].
@@karlstoker04 the thing with Vox Machina is that party is the favourite child the most protected given the most items throughout their campaign literally met the most amount of gods given blessings without much work given god killing weapons they always have armies backing them up they are never far from being helped but the Nein and the hells don’t get that the Nein literally helped end a war and still dont get respect when the world gathers but VM are basically gods themselves They were always safe and going to be able to win I truly believe they had the easiest fight Not to mention they have a animated series and to kill then off might hurt later seasons
@@ZodiacBandit also the fight went almost perfect for them grog getting to almost fully kill the worm on his own (him being like the perfect thing to stop the worm and getting to just hold it there and easly out tank and damage it) vex being the one super cambod dealing HUGE amounts of damage to the guy keylith and the entire milieus key team doing a great job freeing vax and stoping the weave mind and the bloody bridge and the biggest threat being dominated by Scanlan i think the fight could have gone REALLY bad if the guy with practically infinite attacks got to grog keylith or anyone else first he would have actually easily one camboed them taking out the big guns before anyone could do anything but mat attacked vex a BIG mistake causeing him to take i think (dont hold me up on taht) 200 damage plus
Doesn't Caleb also have Wish?
im still frankly astonished how bad the ac's were for VM.. like, highest ac in the whole crew was.. I think a 21 with pike? at 20, even your squishiest people should be sporting around a 20, with your tanks in the close to 30 range.. Not that the had much trouble, but a whole team of no ac punching bags at 20 is... weird.

I dont think it was hard enough lol. Should have had some legendary resist on the big beasts, and maybe 2 vidulches. Less small npcs. Make them struggle some more, and then pop some reinforcements hahaha.
@@Errante117 the thing with this fight is it was Vox Machina. This group receives special treatment constantly and a level of reverence the others don’t these are the player’s favourite kids I believe the mighty Nein deserve the level of love the players give Vox Machina but they don’t and something tells me The m9 fight is gonna be a nightmare
@@ZodiacBandit That's fair, VM are supposed to be the ones that take on impossible odds and succeed, and there's the players love, so i see why Matt is more benevolent in the way he treats them. Also, there's the fact that level 20 is a nightmare to balance, and the difference between a fair fight and an unfair one can be summed up to bad or good rolls.
The stakes are pretty high, but Matt definetly should have had made them higher in terms of combat, and less creatures so it takes less time for each turn. Overall though? Amazing episode, pretty epic too.
@ honestly that’s why I think the lvl 15 bells hells fight is going to be the most fun lvl 8-16 dnd to me is where you are balanced yet still have some op stuff after that you start to see some bull shit
The infinite attacks shenanigan was pretty bad imo. I agree that since they have plenty of level 20s together the encounter should be really hard, but this is not the way to do it. Instead they could have many enemies that are strong but don't have anything absolutely ridiculous like that. So many ways that are more fun, can be countered or otherwise make sense. That one left a bad taste.
@@BerzekGamer I can see this point that being said I kinda liked it mostly because it’s like a breath weapon he has to roll to get it back I also do think it makes a lot of sense that a “beast” from another world who’s likely been bioengineered to be a savage killer attacking all out like this just works for me if we didn’t know about the bio engineering stuff this would be a harder pill to swallow for sure
lol, some folks are silly, the dude wasnt that big a deal, entire thing is massively overblown.
Can I point out how RIDICULOUSLY OVERPOWERED is the blessing of dawnfather? Dealing a 15-20 points of dmg, and knocking prone ON EVERY ATTACK THAT HITS YOU?! Maybe it wasn't that ridiculous because it was Vex who got it, and she's quite squishy, but imagine it on someone more tanky, not even mentioning if a beast like grog got it 💀 (Also resistance to necrotic, because why not)
@@mikonyx7712 I would agree it’s over powered until the context of level 20 and these characters having literally met many gods and had been giving blessings That being said it’s still insane but I think the context helps it a bit
Hi
And i dont think Otohan willl always always be the greatest enemy their ever fight XD !!!
Also also, got only one night, Lets get laid XD !!!
Also they forget action surge is only once per turn, but at least was a cool Shooting at the guy : ) !!!
@@soldier660 yea rule of cool moment
3rd action surge! I thought that was going to actually happen for a second. I was like WHAT THE WORLD! That is super powerful. Man I wish one of his shots would have been a crit!
So here's the thing they wanted Vax to go to the Moon. The Matron says to him, decide what's important. HE SAYS, "I'll serve you on this mortal coil". So say he goes to the moon they "win" whatever that looks like. Though IMHO she's going mortal and he's taking over, if not serving her on the mortal coil means back on Exandria? No? He's choosing. She gave him a night... then he hits the moon. Then either becomes a God or is freed because if she's gone who's he setving??
Well he said at the end if the story we get the end of the story...It depends on what happens with MN & BH.
