It looks like I need to tackle this on my 2016. I just want to thank you for the efforts to make this vid.
You're a godsend for this man! You camera angles and explanations are a life saver!!! I know that's gotta be a pain in the @$$ but much appreciated!
Anyone else have an issue with check engine light P02D2 fuel injector learning at min limit, and a slight knocking that may come and go, I searched and found a few people go threw the same due to battery being unplugged
Damn dude how did you get to bolts on top of the transmission
dont you have to do a calibration afterwards?
Bearings on my N57 are original from factory. Now I want to do preventive bearings change, so my questions are : I need to buy standard dimension? Do I need to rework / remanufacture my engine block and crankshaft? Or I can just do preventive bearings change?
Great video.
How long did take you?
Size of the bolts? Please
So you have to get all injectors out ? no other option?
Would this be the same as the 2018 f450 6.7 ??
Great video thank you sir🎉🎉
Hi i have and x5m 2016 have rod bearings issues i would love for you to work on my truck i dont want to sell i want to fixed it ? How can i get in contact with you ? Any info
Hey woody, amazing video thanks alot! 1 question tho. Do you have to crank the engine when you move from the 1st cilinder to the next one ? Or do i just put the pin in and it stays there untill all stems are changed ?
Did you allow the transmission temperature to reach 35 degrees while filling? Also, you should shift through the gears to circulate the oil before restarting the refill process/ This is how the procedure should be as per BMW :D
What and where are the signs to look to know you have an upper pan leak?
you made that look easy . great work
Thanks for taking the time to show this. So basically you can't see the bolts at all? All by feel right? I've seen people take motor mounts off lift engine and all kinds of stuff but looks like your way is the simpler way adding unbolting p/s pump out of the way. I can't even imagine what would happen if you strip one of those 3 bolts. I would spray clean them before putting a socket on.
Thanks a ton for doing this video! Got the Arnotts and did the job myself in no time thanks to your instructions. And really enjoyed stabbing the old bags with my knife - very therapeutic.
You're lucky it's an x5, the 650i you gotta pick the drivers side up. I love your vids, you cut to the chase and your zoom shots are awesome. Cheers

Thanks for your video; it made the whole process easy to understand. Do I need to do an alignment after finishing?
Great work!!! Only question I have is when you`re installing the Coolant extension pipe and you`re stretching to either end. How do you know you`ve extended it correctly? Does the end bottom out at either end?
Trying to see how to remove the upper bolts holding the transmission to the engine.
Quick question, noticed you didn't apply silicone to the 2 back & 2 front corners of the block that connect to the rear cover & front cover. Did you experience any leak afterwards?
This is not for N47 engine, the crankshaft locking tool is only used on N47 to set high pressure pump, to set crankshaft with camshafts on N47 you must then use flywheel locking pin and camshaft locking tool. i advise people to fit timing tools to there engines before dismanteling them and visualise the position of timing marks. i hope this is clear
You can remove wheel and do it thru there ?
Impressive..you did all that sober😮
Show us how to remove from front prop shaft
What a great and informative video. It certainly makes it look a less daunting prospect to do. I am guessing that these engines are a lot less common in the US than they are here in the UK but by god are they powerful with good BHP and Torque figures. But as metioned by some others here DO NOT GO BY BMW RECOMMENDED SERVICE INTERVALS FOR THE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE. Leaving this as long as BMW recommend is asking for some big bills once a vehicle gets to about 100k miles. My N57, in my 335D, gets oil and filter service at 10k or less and should be less for a vehicle that does shorter mile journeys.
335D in e90? or g series?

Do you have any check engine light on after? And any problems passing emissions. By obs2 plug in ... As in monitor readiness
hey bro do you have to drain all the coolant or is it like a valve cover its fine?
What is with f..king TH-cam these days, you cant "fast forward" and then play?...f..you TH-cam
That's a monumental task for one man to do. Awesomely done! I need to do this on a 2011 f250. Upper oil pan gasket as well. Those upper bellhousing bolts seem very tough to get to
The top ones aren’t bad, the ones behind the dipstick tube are a pain
how about the air/ or coolant hose that is connected on the side of the dpf that has 2 bolts you put a block plate or just leave it disconnected with the new downpipe
Brilliant, thank you for sharing!
Woody i messed up. I loved your video and it helped me so so much. But i plugged the engine wiring harness in incorrectly. Do you possibly have a diagram on where each plug goes on the front of the motor coming off the wiring harness?
Great Video! Do you have one for the valve covers? Thanks.
I plan on doing the valve stem seals and upper timing cover gasket and alternator bracket. Would this be a smart idea to go ahead and do this job as well? I have no leaks (visibly) on my 2008 550i V8, which I'm sure it has the n62tu engine on it.
Great video! Thank you!
My dealer just quoted me $4968 to do this
Hello, i have the same problem on my f30 335d, its N57 engine. Did you bought original BMW cranckshaft or a copy? A lot of mechanics told me do not buy a copy :/
Can I ask where you purchased your stand that allowed you to mount the engine sideways so you was able to access the timing side. Thanks
What about that parking linkage you mentioned?
Thanks:)
Chieeeeeeefs!
Before removing the Valvetronic servomotors, you must first initiate the removal procedure using the diagnostic tester. The motor is retracted by several millimeters. If this is not done, there is a great risk of damaging the servomotor or the eccentric shafts. This is very clearly stated in the BMW repair instructions. And to prevent the gasoline from spraying around when the fuel line is disconnected, there is a valve on the injection line of the right cylinder bank. You can blow the fuel out of the line back into the tank with a short blast of compressed air. But all in all a fantastic video. Thanks for the effort.
hey i didnt know how to do this i just removed and marked them? am i fucked bro??
@ Especially with such expensive components, you should get into the habit of using the repair instructions. Marking is useless in this case, as the Valvetronic motors automatically reach an end point when they are turned in. They can be turned further, but do not go in any deeper. Of course, you may have scratched the thread now, which will then continue to wear over time. If it works now, just leave it as it is. You can't undo it anyway.
Thankl you very much chief your video is very informative. And thank you again for putting me off buying one I never knew the timing chain was at the back of the engine. I think that had been designed by a disgruntled kraut who worked at BMW and was ready to leave the company. Also just heard about the front headlights being coded for a specific car WTF.
Had mine replaced 3 times by Ford dealership. Now I have a transmission leak.
Thank you Sir. Do you have a merchandise website where I could purchase items of yours to show support ? Salute.
