Before removing the Valvetronic servomotors, you must first initiate the removal procedure using the diagnostic tester. The motor is retracted by several millimeters. If this is not done, there is a great risk of damaging the servomotor or the eccentric shafts. This is very clearly stated in the BMW repair instructions. And to prevent the gasoline from spraying around when the fuel line is disconnected, there is a valve on the injection line of the right cylinder bank. You can blow the fuel out of the line back into the tank with a short blast of compressed air. But all in all a fantastic video. Thanks for the effort.
@ Especially with such expensive components, you should get into the habit of using the repair instructions. Marking is useless in this case, as the Valvetronic motors automatically reach an end point when they are turned in. They can be turned further, but do not go in any deeper. Of course, you may have scratched the thread now, which will then continue to wear over time. If it works now, just leave it as it is. You can't undo it anyway.
Excellent commentary and explaination of each step taken to do this repair. I have an 09 with this same engine and have already tackled the valve covers, water pump and numerous other jobs on this vehicle. BMW seems to do nothing simple and everything expensive as you noted. I do most of my own repairs on my vehicles and family member but I really hope I don't have to do this no time soon. One thing about it is that you have give many a good guide/ example to follow. Great job Sir.
This vide was extremely helpful in replacing the water pipe. I watched several other videos on that particular repair, but your methodology was extremely helpful in making sure all of the steps were easier. I had a different car/engine combination. I had an e64 with the N62B44 engine. However all your steps translated - especially disconnecting all of the many electrical connectors. There was one cable with a single wire that I had to splice and add a spade connector because I couldn't find where it went. You are awesome!
Omg you helped me so much in knowing what all this was I have it in my 07. And you explained this so well for someone learning on their own car thank youuu!
Great video. I would like to add a little trick that I used on the intake. There was no way I could get my hand to the back of the intake to unplug those 3 clips. I cut a 3inch piece off of a 2x4 I raised the front of the intake and stuck the piece of wood underneath. This raised the intake up and off of the intake studs. I then was able to pull the intake forward a couple of inches, enough to get my hand in the back and unclip the plugs.
Woody i messed up. I loved your video and it helped me so so much. But i plugged the engine wiring harness in incorrectly. Do you possibly have a diagram on where each plug goes on the front of the motor coming off the wiring harness?
Hello thank you for all you help And very educational videos I have a 550i with milky oil in my engine is this can cause that any suggestions besides head gaskets thanks
I did this job and went I put the intake back on I have this plastic like popping as soon as the engine starts and got 3 cylinder misfires, all connections have been checked and I recalibrated valvetronics via ISTA, and still getting the plastic like popping. Any help would be appreciated
Seems these engines are half science and half witchcraft. I just did valve stem seals and wish I had done this repair at same time. Bad mistake on my part. Now have to pull some of this apart alll over again...
Great work!!! Only question I have is when you`re installing the Coolant extension pipe and you`re stretching to either end. How do you know you`ve extended it correctly? Does the end bottom out at either end?
I plan on doing the valve stem seals and upper timing cover gasket and alternator bracket. Would this be a smart idea to go ahead and do this job as well? I have no leaks (visibly) on my 2008 550i V8, which I'm sure it has the n62tu engine on it.
Great step by step video! About to tackle diaging this...was the engine smoking at some point at the rear which was also one of the signs to doing this repair?
I followed your process for disassembly as I clearly had a coolant leak in the valley pan area...but did NOT have any coolant leaking from the timing cover weep hole. When I got the intake off it was a nasty mess. Coolant had obviously been leaking in this area for a long time. BUT, when I removed the valley pan itself there was zero evidence of a leaking valley pan seal, no evidence of a leaking transfer pipe at the front or rear. I'm wondering how likely it is that either the head gaskets are leaking the coolant into the valley or perhaps the heater core pipe from the water pump that runs under the intake could be the culprit? As the valley pan itself was curiously full of coolant and grime I just have a hard time thinking is was the valley pan seal leaking. The seal looked to be in excellent condition, still soft, and well torqued.
Yes there are two PCV valves. In the 2004 645Ci that I have, the original valve cover has an integrated PCV the same as the drivers side. This has been changed and you cannot purchase a direct replacement. Instead there is an add on hose with a PCV that connects to the new passenger side valve cover. Took me forever to figure this out. Hope it helps.
Thanks woody. Very nice video about the never ending coolant topic for n62😅did save and will save people thousands of hard earned cash. I have almost everything on hand now to do it to my 7 series. Just missing the new seals for the intakes I thought they are 2 rows of 4 seals each side. Or are there 8 individual seals? Nah ist's 2*4 I guess
Great video looks like I will be tackling these job soon as mine is leaking. Did you happen to replace the intake manifold gaskets and injector seals since you were in there? Thanks again for the great video.

The best video by far on replacing the coolant pipe. Many thanks.
Best video for valley / transfer pipe replacement for our n62b48 :). Thank you , definitely saving thousands of $$$ .

yup i just held it up but did something similar u got to raise it up to get to the connectors
This video saved me $5,000.00
Thank you for the video 🙏🏼
Wonderful job! Thanks for the torque specification on the valley pan.
Very detailed thank you for taking the time to show us. I've got to do mine
I used that part 70.000km 2 years still good
Great video! Thank you! About to start reassembly.

Nice video with very clear and detailed explanations. Just missing a link or reference to buy the parts...

You said the removal of the cowl was straight forward but i beg to differ, i cant get the cowl removed on my 745i.
Hello thank you for all you help

Great video, thank you for uploading... What is the part number for the water pump small O ring and where did you purchase it?

Good video. You replace the water pump as well? Hear the impellers are plastic and prone to failure. Saw the KC hat, where you at?
Great step by step video! About to tackle diaging this...was the engine smoking at some point at the rear which was also one of the signs to doing this repair?
@Woody's Workshop any recommendations on that Pipe? There are a lot of options out there! Thanks!

valley pan is suppose to have coolant inside
@@startingtech3900how do you know this?. I can’t find anything that backs that up. Cheers.
What's the best way two-seat the new water pipe in the front seal mine's way too tight it's driving me crazy
Is the valley pan supposed to be full of coolant like that? Or is it only full because of the leak?
This is the right question. I think not. In fact, it's strange why they even have this cover with just a pipe underneath and nothing to seal
Excellent
How the hell do you get the cabin filter rain guard out to make room for removal of the intake manifold.!??
Does anyone know if there are 2 pcv’ on this engine or just one? I replaced the pcv on the right side, but would like to know if there is one more

Hey mate hammer and tong should get the job done

What is the name of the steamport that ys off to the radiator head? I broke mine :/
hey bro do you have
to drain all the coolant or is it like a valve cover its fine?
very helpful. thank you sir.
Is it normal for the valley (inside) to be full of coolant when you first opened the valley pan?
Great video, super helpful! I was able to rent the tools through Tony’s tool rental online. They saved me a ton of money and were very convenient!
Size of the bolts? Please
Thank you!!
Where to get parts?
exactly.. where to buy the pipe..
Y didn’t u drain the coolant?
Great vid cheers

I’m starting today wish me luck 😅
How did it go?
