I learned to drive in Bradford in the early 70's. Many of the lovely Victorian buildings had gone by then, and I suppose a few people on the planning committee found fat brown envelopes in their coat pockets ? Daren't go there now because it would just depress me.

Is it true that under Labour the 200 acre Stray is going to be turned into a housing development to house immigrants ? High Rise flats I heard !

I remember in the 80s 90s there use to be lot of burglarys and car theft at least now days rarely happens in my area in Glodwick

Sad so many beautiful building have gone, was hoping to see images of Platts mill as my grandfather worked there, he also painted a patriotic mural on the ceiling during WW2. never seen the mill or photos of the mural. probably demolished by now ?.

Just look how it was, now go and look, dreadful 1960s concrete up to the present day glass monstrosities. Brutal architecture everywhere you look, souless high rise, glass towers. Independent shops with wind out awnings and ornate exterior and interiors all destroyed to build in concrete and glass. I can't believe it's been allowed to happen, a busy city centre packed with proud Sheffielders, replaced by rabble from all corners of the globe with zero respect for a country thats giving them a better life than bongo bongo land 😢

No heritage or pride in Oldham now 😮

Nice video, Bridge End is in Rastrick, not Brighouse. Between the 1870s and 1974 the Borough of Brighouse contained several Townships that were previously independent After 1974 the Borough was dissolved, so they returned to their original boundary. Hence Brighouse is not part of Halifax and Rastrick is not part of Brighouse. The river is the boundary between Brighouse and Rastrick. It all became a mess when Calderdale became a metropolitan council, so no change there ! Well done with the now and then pictures, I fear you might have to do an amended one now with the town centre alterations

A great manufacturing town sadly no more. Tragic. With one of the finest town centres in the country in its day. Unfortunately it reflects the demise of the country generally.

Ask yourself, has the place actually improved with all the demolition of people's homes to make way for the construction of soulless dual carriageway's? Personally I think not! Nick Baxendale.

Confirms my constant assertion the longer things go on, the worse they get. Decades of appaling cultural and architectural vandalism now done in the name of regeneration and 'sustainability'. And the images of Milkstone Rd and Tweedale st, well, insert your own punchline there. Pubs and generational businesses destoyed, taxed into oblivion paying 4X for energy than so called developing nations in favour of souless 'malls' and out of town car parks where phone zombies shuffle around the mutlinational stores using google pay. A lovely poignant piece of work however.

This is fascinating, thank you. Comparison photos showing how different between then & now. Now seems so bland and empty. Both my maternal & paternal family (going back a couple of 100 yrs) lived in this area so watching this vid gave me some pictorial context.

My town looks ugly now with it'd modernisation. It had character in the early 1900s, now its closed business, foringe business and crackheads.

I knew Oldham quite well in the 1970s as my wife worked there. I don't recognise hardly a brick of the place now. Very sad.

see where the bank is on the right hand side? (red brick) timestamp 11min 36 sec, used to be the wimpy bar.... my mother was the manageress there back in the 80's, i can remember finishing school and walking up to the high street. Oldham has changed sooo much from what i can remember as a child.

The issue is that Oldham council is now run by people who’s history and heritage is not rooted in Oldhams history which developed its culture . So it has not deeper meaning to them to protect its history or culture . Hence every building which has been an integral part of that heritage and culture isn’t important to them

I was born in Pudsey, Prospect Avenue off Cemetery Road. I lived there until I was 16 when we moved to Horsforth. I continued to go to Pudsey Grammar until I was 18. This had brought back some very happy memories. Thank you.

Rochdale has always been a SH1T hole, it spawned anarchy in the form of the Cooperative movement that smashed the system and replaced it with good. That Good was destroyed by Government, Banks and Business

In almost every instance, the town looks more beautiful 100 years ago than it does today.

Amazing to see the past Bradford & also seeing in comparison how sadly “progress” doesn’t always work in the long run in the city’s loss of stunning architecture & history, Leeds & Halifax seem to have made wise investments hanging on to their beautiful buildings in comparison.

Loved the video, thanks for taking the time to make it. 😊 I was hoping for a Cleckheaton video and this was better than I had hoped. I grew up on Pyenot Hall Lane, at the bottom near the gate to the Hall. I used to play in the Hall grounds and remember when the Lion went missing ( we called him Parsley ) I have a few books on local history but there was a few maps and photos here i had not seen. Thanks again. 😊
