Excellent. Very well put together. Lived in HX in1970s/80s. Love the place. Such a gem of a town. Cheers

The old buildings looked incredible. It makes me feel so sad seeing what's in their place now, in a lot of instances, car parks. What a sorry state of affairs. Lovely old photos and drawings though. Thanks for sharing.

Well done and thank you to everyone who put this together. Must have taken a lot of time and energy to collate all the information and overlay the locations. A fascinating watch start to finish.

Great video. What a shame so many of the old buildings and architecture have been lost, to be replaced by modern monstrosities.

So many beautiful buildings destroyed to make way for concrete eyesores. It always made me sad when you see how many tram lines ran all over Halifax and the surrounding area, all gone to make way for buses and now we find ourselves in the position where a reliable electric public transport system and rail links are needed, it was all in place over a hundred years ago and was removed.

I have to say I enjoyed that immensely. I have a confession to make I am a Lancastrian but have lived in Halifax for just 43 years and I have a great affinity for the town. In layout and the line of buildings it hasn't changed all that much. Thank God for that one vote that saved the Piece Hall. God Bless the People and the Burgesses of the Town of Halifax.

A very historic and fact filled video. Painstakingly put together. Some incredibly beautiful buildings lost to time. It was definitely on a parr with York. Thankfully a more wiser council than Halifax at the time. But who knows. Possibly big corporative organisations offering some kind of incentives to the council members. Thank you for your time and effort, immensely appreciated.

This is an excellent film showcasing our great Town with some beautiful old drawings and photographs. Its an excellent way of telling the story of change with new photographs overlaid on old drawings and photographs. The arrows are a really great way of showing what stood where and when. Sad to see what beautiful architecture we have lost but proud that we have managed to save so much and we have a Town of which we can all be proud. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard on this project.

You have made me feel quite old. I remember some of these buildings before they were demolished.
It is sad how Calderdale council destroys its historic building over the years.
There are many buildings of historic significance , still disappearing in our town !
My favourite pub , the pump room , gone for a car park.
The star pub, great pint, gone for a car park.
I could go on and on..
Nobody really knows what was found under the new bus station.. the building was deep underground and quickly back filled !

No mention of the short lived Halifax Zoo (1909 - 1917) and Halifax Race Course (1878 - 1884). The zoo was at Chevinedge, Exley, it's former site is now a housing estate and Siddal Rugby Leauge Club. The race course was at Norton Tower, the site is now the home of West End Golf Club, Paddock Lane that runs parallel to it is a reminder that a race course used to be situated there.

As someone who grew up in Halifax in the fifties, I found this video to be nostalgic but until seeing this I didn't know that much of " Halyfax's " history. The artists impressions superimposed over the modern days vistas were absolutely brilliantly done. All those beautiful buildings gone forever now turned into a concrete wasteland by so called architects without an ounce of civic pride.

I often wondered who Haily was. I found a map showing Haily fax.
Shidben valley was the same size , running along next to Claremont ( clay mount )
Shidben was a Druid run valley.
Do you remember the observatory at Horley green tops? (High Sunderland)
Many older folk have told me about it. But I can’t find any info in history about it.
I pass Haily hill on my bus rout.
      I wondered if Hayley’s comet has a connection ?
Haily hill goes up to the top feilds.
      Also note ..
      Hali- fax
      Halo- head

I have lived in Halifax for over 40 years ;-) so I 've collected details here and there of the history...and of course the internet can fill in many historical gaps too!
generally speaking, i have lived in Yorkshire all my life and visited practically all the towns i have added on (visited some more than others) and by researching each one online or the odd book if i need to - it's amazing how much you learn 🙂

Yes there are loads of books etc and i am currently reading the Old Halifax book by Hanson (1920). But i know Stephen Gee and John Hargreaves have written books but i cant afford them all. Hanson is brilliant and i wondered if there were any others you could recommend specifically. Thanks again for that great work.

Calderdale council are still destroying fabulous old buildings for the rubbish that's built today !

    • @kitkatwo6649
      @kitkatwo6649 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And still destroying history!
I managed to stop them carving up a long stone . It lays on its side just outside the top car park at Shibden and marks a missing river..
The council wanted to use it for a memorial in the dry wall area in the park..
I don’t understand why they will not re erect it.
I also believe John lister had a poor school built along miss lister rd. ( shidben hall rd )
