We stopped in the whole weekend with that awful weather and funny enough, I just got rid of all my LPs, CDs and cassettes that had all been boxed up in my garage for over 40 years. For me, nothing compares to getting a brand new LP in a gatefold cover, filled with pictures and lyrics - those really were the days. About 5 years ago I got a call out of the blue to meet up with two girls I was in the same class at school with over 55 years ago, one living in London and the other living in the USA but coming over for a visit and wanting to meet up. I took Mrs Metalman with me, as I was worried we would not have much to say to each other after all this time but it was a brilliant night, we never stopped chatting and laughing and we are all still in touch with each other today. Cheers Alan
I got rid of a lot of my cassettes a long time ago, just kept a few . I agree with you om double gatefold vinyl albums especially when you got a full sized lyric booklet, I don't think you can be that format for album releases. Its common to loose contact with people as we go our own paths in life but it is really nice when you re-connect with people later on , Im glad it went well for you , best wishes pal, take care 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Ive always been a cassette guy. Interesting to see people come back in recent years. But it sucks because now i cant get blanks for dirt cheap haha. Fuck yall trendy shmucks haha.
Hey dude ive still got my gubs and roses cassettes 😂😂 ive not played them since the 90s but i wont get rid of them i do think they will make a comeback even just a little one i also think cds will be back🤘 great vid as always john be safe
I have a few old cassettes , I am gonna get a new Walkman player as I can see more bands making cassette releases , thanks and take care pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Enjoyed the chat...i still have dozens of cassette's although nothing to play them on...never throw them out though.....cheers John
Cheers , I was really surprised to hear about cassettes making a comeback, I thought they were gone for good, best wishes pal 🙂🙂
Taping the top 40 was a weekly ritual John, Youd start by skipping the talking, then half way through youd get bored and just let it record everything! 🙂
I remember doing that Phil , I remember a recording I made with Graham Fellows - How Are You ,on it and another with The flowers of romance by Public Image Ltd on it, and playing them to my parents annoyance😂😂 . Best wishes pal , hope you have a nice weekend 🦇🦇🖤🖤
@thehealthanarchist cheers John, we're at the Victorian weekend in Robin Hoods Bay, having a great time thanks. Enjoy yours too. X
CD's are my format of choice since the early 90s. Before that it was cassettes though. I won an album (Rut - Morbid Thoughts) earlier this year on cassette. I had nothing to play it on so I went down to my local hock shop to pick up a cassette boombox to play it. Cool to see the resurgence in the popularity of cassettes. Vinyl prices have become ridiculous imo.
I think a CD Walkman would be a great choice, I bet that was a bit frustrating , the joy of winning , then not being able to play the Rut Morbid Thoughts album, but it shows how bands are now using the cassette format again. Yes some vinyl prices are way too high, best wishes pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
I fell deep into cassette tapes about 6 months ago. I had no idea there was a trend 😅 But It was exactly to get away from my phone I was so fed up with apps and ads and distractions, I love being at the mercy of an artists creative vision and I don't feel modern tech is optimised for that experience, Tapes on the other hand are perfect for that. I'm learning to repair tapes and players so they can have a longer life instead of going to landfill. It's such a tactile real engaging experience walking through life with a Walkman, I love it ❤️
I think it came about quite organically with people tired of interruption's and distractions when listening to music as it was ruining the experience, so switching to old technology. then with cassettes bring used and talked about more bands started making music available on cassette format , so it has ended up becoming a growing trend. Good on you for repairing stuff. Thanks for your comment , best wishes 🦇🦇🖤🖤
I remember when you had a player with place for two you were a Winner! Cause you easy could copy another cassette tape. But I also remember the frustration when it destroyed favorite bands too. Have a great weekend John 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇
Yes I had a twin cassette deck , If the cassette was a copy I wasn't too upset if it was destroyed , but if it was an original album on cassette tape and it got ruined then it was quite upsetting, take care Sanniz and have a nice weekend 🖤🖤🦇🦇
You got some great views as well as a great days weather as well, something I am starting to really miss now. I love walking on the Roman roads in the Lake District and always get that sense of history as I am walking along there. So many ghost stories on roman legionaries, not sure if I would want to bump into one or not, cheers Alan
I've not done any of the Roman Roads in the Lake District yet , but I imagine there were some major ones going through to Hadrian's wall and Scotland , The lake's are rich with fascinating history. The are a lot of Roman legionnaires ghost story's , I think its deep in our folk memory , I know when the Anglo Saxons first came across Roman roads and the ruins of their forts and buildings they thought they had been built by giants. Best wishes pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
I walked this path today .
I had walked the Sungreen end many times before I found out it was a roman road, It is really nice walking up there away from all the nonsense going on the towns and cities. Best wishes pal 🙂🙂
"Gutta cavat lapidem non vi sed saepe cadendo." Hope of many nice walks for you with us John. P.S. I saw a ghost of a roman... realy... a roman peat cutter 😅
Nice bit of Latin , lots of spirits in the pub , not Roman though 🤣🤣, best wishes mate 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Nice one John....good to see you are getting plenty of views for the video.
Thanks mate, I think Roman stuff is popular, take care 🙂🙂
Wish I had a pound for every time I’ve walk up there John, right on my doorstep 👍
@@MrJud62 lovely little area Ken , cheers
Nice bit of history and to find a true relationship in life is one of lives greatest gifts. Yes, tough for a band playing original music now when a pub crowd what a covers band, real tough, cheers Alan
I really miss pubs and clubs putting on unsigned band nights , pretty rare to find them now , there are some good unsigned metal gigs in Manchester though which is great, cheers Alan take care pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Nice one John Coincidentally we were at that duck pond today with the kids! They wanted bikes out which wasn’t ideal 😂
Cheers pal , best wishes 🙂🙂
Good one John.
Youve walked the first part of this one with Min , I didn't realize it was a Roman road at the time , only later after looking at old maps, best wishes pal
I love old pathways John. Buildings, waterways, vegetation all change over time, but the pathways are some of the oldest features whose use over time has constantly changed but the course hasn't. There are many "Roman" roads that were tracks long before the Roman times. Great video, thanks mate.
Thanks , I love of those things too , I imagine the Romans utilized many older track ways , best wishes pal, take care 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Great informative video Cheers John
Cheers , much appreciated, best wishes pal 🙂🙂
That is awful I know people let there children kick the pigeons not nice .
Ive seen it going on for years, absolutely no need for it
Another fantastic video John. I love the history of this walk.
Thanks Jen
Brilliant John, its great to hear your take on how the music evolved in your head. I listen to all genres, and Ill definitely give these tracks a couple of plays.
Thanks Phil , best way to be is not to limit yourself to one type of music, best wishes mate 🙂🙂
Always nice to try a new route and that looked a great walk up to the old war memorial. Always well worth a steep walk for a great view and a great legend as well. Nice to find you new route was better and less steep and it looked great up there, although not a place I would want to get stuck in the dark, cheers Alan
Thanks Alan , It is steep the usual way I go , its one of those for me when about half way up I think why am I doing this , but the newer route was quite pleasant , still a bit of effort but much more rewarding for scenery, I hope you have a nice Sunday pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Thanks for sharing with us really appreciate it💜🙏💜
Thank you and I appreciated your kind comment , best wishes 🙂🙂
Love it
Thank you 🙂
Thanks for sharing the background story about the band. And tell about the works, ideas and creativity from it. Was very intresting. Took a listen... Think my favorite was, if I remember the title correct, was... The Bench in the Graveyard. Have a fabulous weekend and looking forward to more news about the project. Cheers 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇
Thank you, The bench in the graveyard , the unquiet dead... if you could hear from the many graves . I hope you have a lovely weekend 🖤🖤🖤🦇🦇🦇🖤🖤🖤
Its interesting to know the background and inspiration of the band and music; I enjoyed listening to the songs/EP....love the post punk, goth 80s/90s sound.....quite fitting for these times too. Take care 🖤🤘
Thanks Gilly , I thought this project deserved a full video chat to about it explain it in depth after mentioning it briefly previously, I'm glad you enjoyed it the will be more stuff coming , take care my friend 🖤🖤🦇🦇
Hey John. Good to see you. Its a fact, i'm married for near 20 years until today and its not hollywood bullsh*t all time. Its work. Sometimes hard work. I think thats a thing why many couples broke up so fast ore people matching a wrong partner from the start on. They only see sweet sunny romance in good and healthy times.
Thanks , very true , I think reality is very different than Hollywood cheese (thankfully) . I hope you have a nice weekend mate , and get on some good walks with your dog 🦇🦇🖤🖤
@@thehealthanarchist Oh, I had a warm, dry but very windy day on my cafe racer/scrambler motorcycle... sailing with the wind to a lookout at mountaintop 😅 As a vintage dark military rocker motorcycle guy, with a black and chrome motorcycle you irritate the parents, philistine and hipster, and you are realy interesting for all the children. I wish i get 50 Cent for every oO and OO and Oo 😂
Hi John how are you doing today
Im good thanks , very cold and windy here and heavy rain so not looking forwards to going out later 😂😂, I hope you are having a nice weekend 🦇🦇🖤🖤
@thehealthanarchist gd gd my friend and I am good thanks u and you and me have the same weather
Thanks John, I want you to know your videos make a real difference. They cheer me up a lot and I always look forward to watching them. 👍
Thank you , that great to hear, walking is my therapy and such a big bonus if I can help others too, best wishes and take care 🦇🦇🖤🖤
I'm studying Archaeology and Anthropology at UCLAN university. This is a great video, and I grew up in Stalybridge. I always thought the road above Cheetham's Park was the Roman road. I will be visiting my mum over Christmas, so I will go looking for this
Great subject to study, thanks and best wishes 🙂
Your right John, yes well worth the effort to get out. I love the vibrant colors you have captured; there is a timeless quality to this walk/video. The smoke/mist over the villages in the valley, the sunlight on those rocks....like all time and no time...both at the same time! Great story too; glad 'the people', got their drink in the end : ) Best wishes ⛧👍
Thanks Gilly , glad you enjoyed it , I did use an autumn video filter in video editing but a lot of the video when I got up there was in the golden hour for filming so looked really nice. It was well worth trying this different route up as although it was easier I found some really nice scenery , my thighs were aching for a couple of days after though 😂. It is a good story , its the most detailed and likely story of the stones that I've read. Best wishes and take care my friend .🖤🖤🦇🦇
What a beautiful area! Thanks for sharing your walk!
Thanks , it was a surprise how nice the scenery was on this easier route, best wishes and take care 🦇🦇🖤🖤
another fine video my friend, lovely views.
Thanks Ken , have you done this walk yet?
@ sort of John, climbed up alderman hill and went across the top, some crackin views.
It looks beautiful John absolutely stunning
Thanks Jen , my legs are still aching today 2 days after 😂 , it was worth the climb though, best wishes 🦇🦇🖤🖤
How beautyful is that... and blue sky... thank you John for taking us with you.
Thanks , it was really nice , my legs ache today though, Take care pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Great video John...loved hearing the stories about the stones...always good to discover a new route.
Cheers pal , my legs are still aching today😂, well worth it though , yeah its a good story this one , by a local man who did a lot of poems about local ale! , best wishes pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Thanks John, an entertaining video. In the peak district there are lots of carved bowls for the grouse but they can also be caused by natural erosion - either just a soft patch in the rock, or a pebble of harder rock being wobbled by passing water when it was a rived bed. I dont think we will ever know the true reason! The colours look different in this video, like there is a filter or something applied. Not moaning, just in case you didnt know.
Thanks Phil , Yes I think these ones started out as natural depressions , then were enlarged, there was a filter used ,although the colours and light were changing as I moved in the video as there was a lot of sun and shadow , I will keep an eye out in future. Best wishes pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Looks great walk mate.
Cheers , it was a lovely walk, take care pal 🙂
I love walking on some of the old Roman roads in the lakes and it always blows my mind thinking I am walking in the steps of the Roman Legionaries. The weather looked great, a bit muddy but for the time of the year, still amazing and those colours in the trees were a pure joy. Cheers Alan
Thanks Alan , yes its great having a connection to our past whilst out walking ,weather has been nice this week but big coat weather next week I've heard. I've really enjoyed the colours of the trees this Autumn . Take care pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Thank you for sharing your video! I had to subscribe to your channel. I became 872th friend. Have a great day my friend ~❤

Hi again, this may interest you about the Woodhead tunnels, he has a good channel of interesting things, just like yours. 😉 th-cam.com/video/U9fV4Syx-7I/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for a great walk with historical information. Always great learn more. Haha, complain on the music? Don’t think it's anything wrong with it lol just that person don't have taste. Weather here is chilly, rainy and dark/grey most of time... and if the temperature drop just a little (this morning 4°Celsius in early morning) we soon will get snow instead of rain. Have a great week John and cheers 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇
Thanks my friend, actually made me laugh when somebody complained of the music 😂. Its a bit colder here but not too bad yet, I have my warm goth cloths ready as I am sure you have yours ready too. Take care lovely 🖤🖤🦇🦇
Hey, gooood to see you again John. Its always interesting to see something from your homeland. P.S. Next village at my homeland is a so called Römerbrücke... over the river Hunte. Its old, but it isnt a roman bridge... Near this village was a big roman legions desaster against the local germans. Not a good place for romans at this time.
Hi, was this the Roman disaster in Kalkriese? If so , I have read a book about Varus and his lost legions and the archaeology, fascinating history, take care dude 🦇🦇 🖤🖤
A great hike John, lovely routs around Stalyvegas!
Cheers Phil , I love it round here ,take care pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
I love history John lovely walk
Thanks Jen , much appreciated , hope you have a nice Sunday 🙂🙂🦇🦇🖤🖤
Nice video, I'm also interested in local history wherever I am, much better than the old school history lessons. I was born in Ashton, though no longer live there and have a good collection of history books and maps of the area, my two favourites being 5,000 Acres Of Old Ashton and England in Ashton under Lyne by Winifred Bowman, in one she has an article of the Roman Road going through Failsworth where she spoke to a local old man who remembered it being exposed where a large gas main was being laid, the wood was dug out and locals collected it. I also spend a lot of time down in Abersoch where I do the same, finding fascinating, interesting walks. Off topic a bit, but have you ever researched Slate Lane in Audenshaw and Slade lane in Manchester, both of which are on the line of one of the many salt road, pack horse routes spreading out from the many ancient salt mines in the Winsford / Northwich areas which were also trading routes and also came through Tameside and the surrounding areas on the way to such as Sheffield and the Pennines. Keep up the interesting videos.
Thank you , much appreciated , thanks for telling me about the book , I will look out for it. Abersoch sounds nice , Wales has a lot of beautiful historic walks and places .I will look into Slate lane and Slade lane , I know where Slade lane is but the history sounds interesting . Best wishes , take care 🙂🙂
Enjoyed that John...i agree a bit of history certainly adds to a walk.
@@atrampinthehills.841 cheers dude , and there is so much history along the paths we walk , hope you have a nice Sunday 🙂
So about surplus coats... a few years ago I was at a punk show when it was 5 degrees Fahrenheit. We all complained. I went to the army surplus store the next day and bought a Belgian army coat for 5 bucks. At the next show, everyone had done the same thing and it looked like the crowd was a platoon of soldiers on leave. But we were all warm
Nice story, they definitely do the job , usually hard wearing and value for money, best wishes pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
nice one john, cant beat being out on them hills.
Cheers mate , yeah best therapy in Tameside them there hills , best wishes , take care 🦇🦇🖤🖤
@ will do mate.
