HOW TO PLANT PAW PAWS / A WEEK OFF DOING WORK IN MY PERMACULTURE FOOD FOREST (ZONE 6B)
This week on Branching Out Permaculture with Curtis Hanlon. Being off for a weeks vacation I decide to spend it in my permaculture food forest. This video i show you how i plant pawpaws to survive the winter and be protected from pests. After last weeks maple tree planting i continue to plant many fruit trees and bushes. These include pawpaws, goumi berry, logan berry, boysen berry, and quince. Clearing brush and burning it for biochar and adding to the tree line natural fence. EP190

Not sure about now days, but about 40 years ago the University of New Hampshire recommend to wait until after a hard frost before putting down mulch to deter mice and voles tunneling through it. They said that it was still in time to protect the roots, but the rodents are less apt to be extending their burrows. Not sure if it makes much difference... I plant in the spring and always plant some mint with each tree. Love to watch the progress ❤

I've never had luck with lavender, but the other three are all part of my landscape... Keep willow at least 100 feet (30 meters) away from septic systems and pipes as their roots can travel far far beyond their drip edges. IF people are planning more plantings in the spring, NOW is a good time to lay out and prep the holes for tree transplants. This helps avoid the frustration of starting a hole only to find a giant rock. It also eases the springtime pains that come from planting. Much love to all ❤️❤️

The small hole at the top is the opening for a small red worm... Does not hurt the oak tree itself, just the nut. Red oaks are beneficial for attracting dragon flies 😊. Around here I just walk around in the spring and dig up the freshly germinated acorns and transplant them, tap root, acorn and stem all at once. The hickory will be far more challenging, as most of them will be sterile... My niece makes a flour and bakes bread with red oak acorns. Found that cutting the nut in half with secateurs is easy way to remove the nut meat. Takes nearly a bushel of nuts to get enough flour for one loaf though. How are your air layered offsets coming along? Much love 💕

Up to 3-4 layers. Water constantly and your 3-4 potatoes will multiply by about 10. Just as easy to harvest
