  • This week on Branching Out Permaculture with Curtis Hanlon. Being off for a weeks vacation I decide to spend it in my permaculture food forest. This video i show you how i plant pawpaws to survive the winter and be protected from pests. After last weeks maple tree planting i continue to plant many fruit trees and bushes. These include pawpaws, goumi berry, logan berry, boysen berry, and quince. Clearing brush and burning it for biochar and adding to the tree line natural fence. EP190

Not sure about now days, but about 40 years ago the University of New Hampshire recommend to wait until after a hard frost before putting down mulch to deter mice and voles tunneling through it. They said that it was still in time to protect the roots, but the rodents are less apt to be extending their burrows. Not sure if it makes much difference... I plant in the spring and always plant some mint with each tree.
Love to watch the progress ❤
