Great video! I needed to replace the rubber boot and I watched several other videos before finding yours - none of which addressed that section of the carb. After watching, I was able to get it done quickly. Thanks!!!
At 10:50 where you dropped the check valve onto your hand. On that part, am I suppose to see light all the way through the other end of the hole? I tried to ream it and I'm not able to go all the way through. I'm not sure if its got something stuck inside? Thanks
Yea so basically when you pop that ball out you should see straightt through. But not a lot. The plunger pushes on that ball and allows fuel to go by. The spring below the ball allows it to shut off the gas so it dosent just flood the carb
Very nice and informative video sir I have the same engine but I can't release the throttle boat not picking up speed so what so every I increase speed please advice me sir thanks
Could ya explain again what the issue is? You can get up on plane in a boat? As in the motor won’t increase in rpm’s? There’s 2 screws one for idle mixture which is the screw inside the carb. That should be set at around 1 1/2 turns from seated position. The other screw is for idle speed. Once you have idle mixture set right you can run the engine and listen to the motor. If you increase the screw the faster then engine will go. These motors tho are set at around 900 rpm at idle. Hope this helps lmk if it’s something else I can help you with
Great video by the way-I have a question I have a 2015 9.9 mercury 4stroke,when I start the motor it idles high like scary high so I have to grab the throttle linkage on the carb and pull it either forward or backwards really don’t remember which way it is,but I have to do that every time in order for me to shift gears-I know there’s a idle screw there but it is set perfect-any idea to what can cause this issue-any info is appreciated
The throttle wire isn’t set correctly. The one rod that moves and pushes on the enrichner. I sent the motor in neutral and hold the rod back on the spindle where the cables are. You’ll see it’s like oval looking on the end of the rod. Loosen the screw while pushing the rod down. Make sure the carb is completely shut then you can tighten the screw back up and it’ll be set properly.
Any tips on how to make the throttling of the motor more direct as I feel I have to turn the throttle handle quite a bit before any change kind of like a dead area at the start
@@kennymunro4572 I meant to write shift and* throttle cables. Should be 2 nuts on the cable located on the side of the motor. Doing the top but right to loosen the cable then twist the bottoms but right to tighten up the cable. What’s you got good tension. Thread down the top but to hold the cable into place
@@kennymunro4572 if you actually watch my most recent vid w the mercury 25 xd service I actually tighten up and talk about shift and throttle cables. Different motors but still the same process etc
It should. Does your motor have a voltage regulator on it? Should be a little box type of thing that will a lot of times have a red wire and some yellows coming out of it
I own a 2020 9.9 merc similar to this one. After 3 seasons the motor will not stay on in idle, only full choke. I took apart the carb and cleaned all the jets and it ran a little better, but it still stalls when the choke is off. any ideas what it could be?
Either fuel lines clogged going to carb, possibly fuel pump going bad. But I have noticed some if the after market floats and needles just something ain’t right with them. Idk if maybe u used a aftermarket carb kit but for some reason the floats don’t sit right and there’s no way to adjust them and the needles don’t seem to set the best. Maybe try an oem kit and adjust your idle mixture slightly and see what happens
No aftermarket kit used yet. I did order one of Amazon with good reviews tho. I will be installing it on Monday and I will let you know what happens. I also ordered a new fuel filter. What sucks is that I only have may 20 hours on this kicker. I must’ve used crappy fuel at one time and it varnished up last winter.
@@sauzaman72gotcha gotcha yea lmk what ya find I just had one motor that was super clean before and I did the whole fuel system went to run it and one of the fuel lines from the engine fitting was clogged so wouldn’t run unless I was choking it. I’ve also have had the inline fuel filter be bad right out of the box. Took me forever to back track it to the brand new filter I just put on. Basically was collapsed out of factory and had similar running issues. Just some things to think about as well
Just wanted to give you an update. I replaced a fuel line going to the carb bc it had a pin hole, but it still stalled on low idle. Took the carb apart again, and it was full of gunk. It must’ve loosened it all up the last time I cleaned it. Cleaned the whole carb and both high idle and low idle jets again and now it purrs like a kitten at low idle. Thanks again!
@@sauzaman72 hahah that’s awesome yea that got me too before. I’m glad we were able to get it figured out have a good one and stay tuned for some more stuff in the future!!!

Dude wtf I'm a really big fan of yours. You make great videos but you have to have had heard of carbon monoxide poisoning. Look how long you ran that in that garage
Interesting. I’d personally argue the opposite but I would love to just hear your feed back on these motors. I personally think they have great output and weight comparison only being about 10 lbs heavier than a typical mercury 2 stroke of similar hp. In my area they are worth a decent coin. But I can see in other areas other motors being favored all based on condition me your going to be in
Good details and soundtrack. Great work on editing!
Thank you very much!
Awesome video!
I just purchased a 2010 model that will not run, and this video has definitely increased my confidence.
Thank you very much.

Absolutely glad to hear it worked out for ya. Greatly appreciate the comment and feedback!
Oh snap never noticed the grease fittings👍🏾 gonna check my 2007 4 for them.
Keep them lubed up. Otherwise they start sticking and getting hard
Once again, thank you for saving me money
Absolutely
Thank you so Mutch for this video !!

Great video
Thanks so much for this very detailed video. What kind of grease do you use to lube the motor?
Mercury 2-4-c or any other marine type grease will be fine

hi where did you get your parts?
I work for a dealer at a boat shop as my everyday job so I can get a lot of my parts through our vendors. But another really good website for people who don’t have the same access as me is boats.net
Do you always use all Merc OEM?
No I use a lot of aftermarket brands like Sierra
what about the oil filter?
These models down have oil filters
Do you work on Nissan 4 stokes?
Yea as most of them are exactly the same engines as the tohatsus and mercurys
Did a compression on mine and it’s only 70 it’s a 2020 merc 9.9 pro kicker
You have low compression then
That or you have a faulty compression gauge
How much did you pay for the camera?
GoPro 10 Black. Think it was right around 800 if I remember correctly
Dude wtf I'm a really big fan of yours. You make great videos but you have to have had heard of carbon monoxide poisoning. Look how long you ran that in that garage
Hahah it’s good we have 2 big garage doors behind where the camera was I had them open and we have a giant fan that blows it out that I had plug in.
They are doubled sided bays with garage doors on both ends
These engines often go for cheap... because in my opinion they have bad power
