DJ & Producer
Born as a son of a music teacher in 1983, I started to take piano lessons at the age of ten and taught myself how to play guitar at the age of 15.
Until I was 16, I predominantly listened to Hip Hop & Reggae. Besides playing guitar and piano, I made my first steps into the world of djing by buying a mixer and two old turntables which I mainly used for scratching instead of trying to create smooth transitions between songs.
However, after experiencing a mind-blasting techno party in the late 90s in Dortmund, I began to focus more and more on listening to and mixing electronic dance music. I enjoyed small private techno parties as well as big techno festivals like e.g. the Love Parade, Mayday or Nature One and thus dived deep into the German electronic dance music scene.
After having graduated from university in 2010, I discovered the enormous potential of digital dj-ing and started to use my passion for deep, minimal and tech house to produce and perform my own music.

Спасибо большое. Супер!
As an Ableton user for Mix and Arrange, I really appreciate that you can swap Projects between the Force and Ableton with any Detail, Name, Color, Patternlocalisation in the Launchview, it’s like Stem Exportation on Steroids, for me at least. And also the Multi Ins and Out and their Routing Possibilities. I recorded an whole Album with a friend of mine, in my „Homestudio“ who’s a Bassist. So we routed the clean Bass into the Force in In1 out on Out3 (so can record it without hearing it on the master) then into his FxPedalBoard and that Signal back into the Force on In2 so you have a Cean Audio Clip in the End for mixing and also the effected One.D rums and Synths from the Force, only Vocals directly in Ableton. One Weekend 12 Tracks finished 🎉. There was only 1 thing that took me a while, the Standard Project length is around 150 Bars if I remember correctly, and we had one song that was a bit longer at 160Bpm so we reached this magical line. In the Launch-Matrix it plays Everything correctly, but the exportet Clips where all cutten off at the tail. Equal if you export it as wav/Ableton Projekt etc. I tried them all, trust me 😅
Con for me... Don't ever accidentally hit the phantom power toggle switch while a mic is plugged in. Blown audio interface immediately. Work around exists since they added readable external audio interfaces...but still...should never happen in the first place. I love akai...I love MPC...but just be careful!!! I thought maybe there would be a Force 2 announcement at Namm 2025.
Luckily, the phantom power issue has never happened to me, but I get the point. I’m pretty confident that they will release one big update for the Force before they release an MK2 version. So I expect the update this year and if a second Force is coming, it will not be before the end of this year or the next year.
👏👏👏
looks pretty cool with the skin but rubning alchol would have took the skickness away
@@Schemez-16vhiphopbeatz If using vinyl skins, stickiness is good because the skin sticks to the Force better.
I've been thinking about buying MPC Live 2 - but after finding out about the Force I'm thinking this tool seems like it does what MPC Live 2 does but more? Or am I missing something?
@@ohlssonster The Force has 3 times more pads and eight instead of only four encoders and offers more possibilities in terms of performing live. Until the next Akai Force update comes out, the mpc has more plugins and can do more on the software side than the Force currently can. It’s your choice.
@@wolfgang_grows Gotcha! Thanks a lot for the info
Thank you for your positive feedback! Yes that’s pretty much it. Sometimes I just filter out melodic elements or drums until there’s only 3 basic elements of the old track left and then I slowly fade in new elements and replace the leftover sounds one by one with new sounds. As a dj, you would have to use your eq knobs for that. With live techno you have control over every single sound the track consists of and you can eq additionally. So making transitions like that is more precise.
👏👏👏
Can you recall plugin presets by triggering clips?
@@constantine327 Yes, that’s possible.
@wolfgang_grows that's awesome... Does It have some limitation about the number of parameters that can be snapped?
@ I don’t think so. Personally, I haven’t reached such a limit.
is there a way to use FX just on single drum sounds ?
how many steps maximum for the seq. ?
@@peterfuzz3887 The sequencer has 64 steps (4 bars).
Wow, very nice live set. How do you manage the transitions? Do you always have one signature sound from the next track in the current track, mix it in and then change the pattern (track)?
very inspiring !
That sticky damage looks like the plastic was heated and the oil has condensed on the surface, my suspicion is the stand that blocks the airways. But can't really tell from here, so I'm just guessing - my Force does not have that. To get sort-of Ableton Live style stretching (Beat), you can convert a loop into a Patched Phrase and automatically assign the notes. It splits the loop by the beats.
@@ThatBonsaipanda Hello and thanks for your suggestions. It’s definitely not the stand because the problem occurred before I got the stand. Because of the camera angle it looks like the wooden panels are blocking the air circulation on the sides but there is enough space in between the wooden panels and my Force, which has never had any heating problems. It has never been hotter than hand warm. I think it’s because of the high humidity in my flat. The technique you mention is often used in hip hop productions. I tried it too, and sometimes if the source and target bpms vary a lot it would sound choppy. And as you said, it works ok for beats but not well with longer evolving chords.
@@wolfgang_grows Yeah, patched phrase is definitely just for drum loops, would need a granular algorithm for tonal samples. The gooey surface is really odd reaction, that really shouldn't happen. And yeah, could be moisture or reaction to some chemical as well. Really weird.
Thank you sir!
You are very welcome!
Mine doesn’t have that coating. At least I don’t think so. Maybe you used alcohol to clean? That could’ve damage the coating possibly.
@@CharlesLouisRosario No, I never use any chemicals on my instruments, just a dust brush and one or two times a wet microfiber cloth with only very little plain water. The knobs of my Korg Minilogue show the same problem after more than five years. Other instruments don’t. There seems to be a thin line when it comes to the mixture of certain plastics and rubbers. Some compounds behave differently in certain climatic situations.
Love the darkness!
Me too 💣

hey Wolfgang, krasses Video! what i want to ask you is: are the plugins & effects you are using included in the price and already present on the Akai Force? or do you have some extra downloaded stuff there? thanks
Danke! All the plugins and fx that you see in this video come natively with the Force and don’t need to be purchased extra.
@@wolfgang_grows thanks ❤️ sounds amazing
Thank you very much! Great!❤
My pleasure!
When you go to 'drum select - INST', why is step 16 lit and what is its function? I cannot find this in the manual. My TR-8 also has the 606 expansion.
Good! But what do you think, could you reduce this so that you wouldn't need to scroll sideways? I've been using the Force for a few years now, and I'm coming to the conclusion that if the musical elements don't fit in one 8-track view, it's over-produced. :)
Completely made on the akai force? So no external samples...
I think the background vocal was provided by my sister in law, but other than that all plugins and samples are stock Force.
@ Thanks! Any idea how this guy works? His live set sounds like dj-set. th-cam.com/video/60F1npXlCTw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6RE6UprLd6nRttCh
@@projectb3117 Interesting. I wasn’t aware of this guy. However, I like his style and that is why I did some research. He usually produces only inside Ableton and relies heavily on chopping samples because he comes from a hip hop background. My guess is that he exported his Ableton live set as loops so that he can play them from the Force. So, he uses the Force as his main sample loop player and fx controller and has the mpc live connected to the Force to overcome the limit of only having 8 plugin and 8 audio tracks.
@ thanks for looking into it. I do not use ableton but logic. Thinking of changing to Live after years. What about the compression he uses on the master in Ableton? Is that into the loops so that his live performance sounds the same as the whole track?
My Force also had the sticky problem, and I just rubbed it with Alcohol (I used 75% Alcohol) till all the rubber was taken away, Use a tissue that does not leave any fibres to do it. You need to pass 3 or more times, and change the position of the tissue because the rubber will become attached to it. You will notice that after a few passage the plastic will start to show, the surface will be more brilliant and smooth. Pass till the remaining "islands"of rubber disappear. After I was satisfied with the result I just used WB40 to pass a last time and then clean with a dry tissue. The AKAI now has a plastic surface and it's not sticky anymore. It looks like a new machine! Don't worry with the labels on the surface, they will not be cleaned.
Looks like an amazing bit of equipment. Thank you for tutorial. I'm guessing you can plug a keyboard into it
@@Technics1210-m4m My pleasure. It is amongst my top 3 in terms of studio equipment. You can even plug in two keyboards via usb and one keyboard via midi.
@wolfgang_grows Thank you for the reply .I do not own one. I am still learning a DAW.
Is this same rubbery crap on the MPC Live as well? The acid in your fingers tends to release the plasticisers causing it to feel sticky. Knowing full well that it can cause cancer I honestly don't understand why they still keep applying it.
A wonderful groove box. Thanks for sharing these tips 😊
Cheers. I hope you got something out of this.
A good idea about adding a skin but put it on a “new” machine!

Hello there. I just bought TR8 2nd hand without the 7x7 pack installed. It seems the expansion for this one no longer exists ? any idea where or how to get it ? I can only seem to find the cloud version ?
@@dluxJT Hello as far as I understand it you can download the expansion on Roland cloud (which is free) and get a lifetime code to activate it on your tr-8. Just search under hardware.
nice!
dope
Around the 14:07 mark, the bass line is verging on progressive psytrance territory. Love it. I really need to dig into my force. Most of my gear has been collecting dust ever since my last GAS induced acquisition, a third baby lol. Just curious, what interface are you using. I was thinking of getting a behringer x32 to use as an interface to have all my gear connected at all times.
Glad you like my blending of styles. I always try to integrate some house, psy, progressive and tech house elements into my techno sets to spice things up. Why should you always stay within the boundaries of a specific genre? So far I’m using the Roland mx-1 to bring everything together. But next year I will get a new studio and will use the Tascam model 12 as my main mixer.
@wolfgang_grows Wouldn't the tascam 12 limit you to only 6 devices in stereo? Are you planning on using patch cables?
🔥🔥🔥🌈
Keep your opinions home, none of you have crossed the Berghain’s door 😅
I’m about to take the new digitone but this sounds intriguing
super, but where are the percussives coming from in the final jam?
@@lwpweb Thanks for your comment. I didn’t want the video to end up being too long. This is why I only focused on the main elements and didn’t include atmospheric pads, sound fx and percussions in the video. If you’re interested in how I made them and where I placed them, you can download the project file.
