    For your avacados, what did you plant them in? Garys best... youtube channel talks about growing avacados... they hate wet roots and decomposing material around the roots. He thinks 100% course sand is the best for avacado. He sells soils in a bag, which is peat, pumice, biochar and perlite. Maybe the mix you used is the problem the avacdos havent been successful, just an idea.

    are there any concerns regarding the toxicity of the spray foam? especially with humidity

    • @trailbreakfarms
      @trailbreakfarms 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      its a concern we had when we decided to do it. We researched it and found that others had applied paint over the foam which is what we decided to do. We haven't had any noticeable toxicity since we built the GH 5 plus years ago.

  • @stoveadvice
    @stoveadvice 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't think he even mentioned it, but most of these are COAL stoves and wood is only used to "start them" or get them going. The stove at 1:00 is very useful because it can be turned into, (almost,) a rocket stove. You would remove the legs and put an upside down oil barrel over the stove, venting at the bottom like a rocket stove. You would use black stove pipe surrounded by a mold of perlite, sand, and cement to surround the stove pipe to compete the riser inside the barrel. The "riser" would be 2 to 2.5 inches from the top of the barrel, a bit more space than a normal rocket stove because this thing won't draft as hard as a rocket stove.

    Thank you for sharing. Been fun following your progress over the years. I am finishing up a similar build currently. One thing. Once your Banana produces a rack of bananas it's done producing. You are supposed to cut that down and let the next pups grow up and produce. I am not claiming to be an expert but I have been researching a lot about growing bananas as I picked up a 30 year old Brazilian Banana tree in a pot that has never produced.

    Most of the time, the dragonfruit needs to be hand pollinated to get fruit. That may be why you're not getting any off such a large plant.

    Good to get your update. I drove to Alliance, NE years ago and interviewed Rus. Soon after, I then found this channel of yours. Because of you talking about sun sugar tomatoes (I think it was you), I ordered some of the non-gmo sun sugar seeds. The seedlings grew well under my grow light indoors from April to May. Transplanted them outdoors in very large pots in June. Of those five plants, two died, two stayed under five inches tall and one is 27" tall with some flowers and small fruit at the top. I used the same dirt for all pots. I am guessing the partial sun is the problem.
