I am located in Spanish Fork. I have been saving up to build my own greenhouse of this variety. I would appreciate a tour of one in our climate, if you are willing. Thank you for the virtual tours, they are very helpful as we plan.
Looks good to me! I need to watch all your vids. Gonna do something like this myself. Retired now and older so I only want to build it once. Been researching greenhouses for years and I think this design is best. Thank you for sharing.👍
Sucks about the window. I will email you to come see your greenhouse again... when I was going to come down I caught covid ... almost no,symptoms though
Wondering if watercress would be better with the aquaponics system? I'm wanting to get some going this season, not finding in the potted section of the stores... so still needing to read into sources for. Thinking about a fig too. Neat design. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing! In one of your upcoming videos, can you address pollinators/pollination? You mentioned in an earlier video that you purchased bees and the little bee house. How is that going?
I purchase Mason and Leafcutter Bees from Crown Bees. I've also noticed other little critters in the Green House that help pollinate. Pollination can be an added challenge in a Greenhouse so I try to keep Bees around as much as possible. I have a Bee House inside the GH and 2 on the outside nearby. I also open vents during spring and summer to help.
@@trailbreakfarms Are the bees inside the greenhouse thriving? Do you have a mosquito problem in the summer? I was thinking about putting screens on my vents because our mosquitos get really bad.
Very inspirational videos on your greenhouse. How cold does it gets in winter where you are? This is just a tip/wish/suggestion but can you make a playlist with all the clips/updates regarding just the greenhouse?
I'm very impressed. I would already have a hammock installed if it were my greenhouse. What a great way to beat the winter. It will be interesting to see how well it cools in the summer. I think it will be ok. I read somewhere that they have sold about 200 of these kits. I would love to see what others have done with this style setup but the web site for "Greenhouse in the Snow" is useless. They should have some links to their projects.
I think they've sold a bunch of these kits. I know they've been real busy. Definitely would be good if we could all connect and see what others are doing.
I have a line coming in from the Well. I've split the line into 3 lines plus a Hydrant. I have a line for the North Growbed, misting system and sump tank. One for the main growing flow, and a line for the south growbed, and a few extra valves for future projects.
Your videos are really impressive! I am thinking of building one of these kits as well. The mods you have made are pretty incredible. I lack your construction skills. Would an ordinary person be able to assemble one of these kits? How was the kit to work with? Would the basic kit have worked if you had not modified it? BTW, I'm growing in zone 3.
Kit was good to work with. I couldn't figure out how to put it together. I was calling Greenhouse in the Snow every day with questions. That's why I started this TH-cam Channel - to connect with others and see how they did it. I think anyone who has a desire can pull it off. Basic kit might work in your area but in my Zone I need more air circulation to deal with the Summer heat.
We are currently building our Greenhouse in the Snow and also in zone 3. It’s a good kit, we have also made many a phone call to ask questions. Some basic landscaping and construction skills would be a plus, but you could definitely do it with some help.
I dug those down about a foot below the grow bed grade and filled with soil we got from a neighboring farm. I also use nutrimulch and my own mulch from cleaning up around the yard. I have a chipper/shredder.
We're in Northern Montana and thinking of doing the same kit. Are you able to harvest enough veggies to feed your family? e.g. are you "store independent"?
That has been a topic of debate. I've got some trees in the ground and others left in the pots while I figure out where I want them long term. I've also kept younger trees in pots. Long term I'd like to have most trees in the ground.
A question for you: I am in the process (still) of running electricity out to where my greenhouse will be but I have no idea how much electricity I will need to run all the systems. Although I am planning about 200 sqft, I am going to need prety much all of the same things you have. Perhaps a little less as I will not have an anti-room. How many amps are you drawing for yours?
I think I ran 100 AMP to the Greenhouse. I'm sure I don't use all of it but that's what I did. You can never go too big, IMHO, as you may find future uses.
I asked on another vid, but prob better here: 1. What are temps on coldest night (inside greenhouse) 2. Total cost to build, and to operate? Im not too far from you actually.
I get down to about 50 degrees on coldest nights. But I use a back up heater. If I didn't I would drop into 40's. You should be able to build this kit for 25K. My only costs are property taxes and power bill. Not too bad.
I have one of these greenhouses in southern Indiana. I was hoping geothermal would keep temp at 50 without having heater but it is what it is. How did you attach the hog panels to the north wall?
@@trailbreakfarms Thanks for response! That was our plan but we found spray foam depth really varies over the 2x2's and have to have longer screws. Definitely don't want to go all way thru on north side! Lots of chalenges with not getting our greenhouse buttoned up before fall rain! Very wet clay and hate it! Love your videos! Trying to lower ph for citrus "liking"!
Hello, I thought I had posted a message on one of you videos but can't find it for some reason. I am about 85% finished with construction of my own GHITS from Russ in Alliance. I'm currently installing electric and insulating the end walls. Wonder if there is a way we might connect via phone for a couple questions regarding some of the things you are doing...the temp sensors you use, foam board around the perimeter outside, things you'd do differently in hindsight, etc. If you are willing would you connect with us at Veterans Homestead Project on Facebook via a private message to share phone numbers or email?
I'm building a 102' long greenhouse and am at a critical decision making juncture. You have operated your greenhouse long enough to fully understand pros and cons. Can we connect via FB at Veterans Homestead Project or some other manner that doesn't post personal phone numbers out in public?
@@trailbreakfarms I placed an order for a 90 foot greenhouse kit last week and was wondering if there are any online discussion boards or discord groups for this greenhouse? Love what you got going on here. I subbed, can't wait to learn more!
That’s unfortunate what happened with the water tank window and framing. It looks like a lot of work to fix!
Just install some Crossbars over the window. That should take away alot of the stress due to waterpressure. Also makes it look like a window.
Moving the viewing window up will help. Decreasing it's size will help also. How thick is the window? Enjoying the greenhouse videos.
1/2" polycarbonate.
